Taylor Swift has the No.1 single for the 22nd time in her career, and for the second week in a row, with Patient Zero remaining in pole position.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Swift, however: in common with the three other tracks on the new Encore edition of her album, The Life Of A Showgirl, Patient Zero suffered a dip in consumption week-on-week, and would have been unable to fight off an attempt to retake the title by former incumbent, Great Expectation by Sienna Spiro without CD sales.

Even with them, Patient Zero’s consumption was off 18.06% to 38,455 units (10,940 CDs, 1,241 digital downloads and 26,274 sales-equivalent streams), and its lead over Great Expectation – at a lofty 65.29% last week – shrinks to 33.23% as the latter track, while holding at No.2, increases its own consumption by 1.53% to a best-yet 28,864 units.

The other new tracks from The Life Of A Showgirl perform less well – Babylon moves 4-28 (10,210 sales), while Cleveland – which debuted at No.3 last week – is now ‘starred-out’ (9,562 sales), alongside the set’s fourth new track, Pink Clouding (9,051 sales), their weekly tallies falling 59.01%, 62.29% and 61.84%, respectively.

Their decline in big enough for Swift’s earlier chart-topper, The Fate Of Ophelia – which was itself starred-out last week – to re-enter at No.17 under primary artist rules, even as its own consumption dips 26.55% week-on-week to 13,096 units.

It is, incidentally, a record 30th week in a row that the No.1 has had female participation, with six solo No.1 and the Sam Fender & Olivia Dean blockbuster Rein Me In keeping male-only records off the top since Harry Styles’ American Girls was No.1 in March.

Babydoll (6-3, 28,060 sales) by Jamie Miller and Stop The Wedding! (10-4, 25,662 sales) by Ashe surge to new peaks. Babydoll, incidentally, has now overtaken the No.5 peak scaled in 2023 by Dominic Fike’s completely different song of the same name.

The rest of the Top 10: Choosin’ Texas (5-5, 22,701 sales) by Ella Langley, Boston (7-6, 22,321 sales) by Stella Lefty, The Cure (8-7, 20,717 sales) by Olivia Rodrigo, Nicole Kidman (9-8, 20,080 sales) by Adéla, Training Season (11-9, 18,007 sales) by Dua Lipa and, returning to peak, My Body Isn’t Ready (13-10, 17,460 sales) by Sombr.

Taken from the upcoming movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping, Draw You Out is the highest-placed of this week’s nine debuts, opening at No.16 (13,368 sales) to become the 14th hit for Noah Kahan. The 29-year-old singer songwriter also reaches a new peak and scores an eighth Top 20 single with Willing And Able (23-20, 12,321 sales), while Orbiter, which peaked a fortnight ago at No.18, rallies 24-23 (11,506 sales).

Already the chart’s most prolific chartmaker, Drake adds three more to his tally with songs from the new extended version of his Habibti album. They are Solar Eclipse (with Don Toliver, No.22, 11,865 sales), Quebec (No.27, 10,310 sales) and Cold Shoulder (with Don Toliver & Yebba, No.36, 99,438 sales). Drake has thus had 104 Top 40 and record 159 Top 75 entries. Don Toliver’s tally of Top 75 hits rises to 20, and Yebba’s to three.

Cos Of You (No.40, 8,426 sales) is the fifth Top 75 hit but first Top 40 and first completely solo hit for London rapper Morrisson.

Irish indie folk trio Kingfishr have had 13 Top 50 hits in their homeland in the last two years, reaching No.1 with Killeagh, which spent 17 weeks at the summit in 2024/2025, and The Sun Will Never Settle, which topped for a fortnight in June. The latter track now earns them their UK Top 75 debut, climbing 86-72 (5,716 sales).

Also new to the Top 75: Tongue (No.51, 7,487 sales), the second single from Irish band Fontaines DC’s upcoming fifth album Dopamine Chamber – following Marianne, which reached No.19 a couple of months ago to become their first Top 20 entry – and their seventh hit; I’ve Seen It (No.60, 6,767 sales), a previously uncharted track from Olivia Dean’s The Art Of Loving that is gaining traction, and a 44.01% upsurge in support week-on-week after the issuance of a lawsuit claiming it copies the Grover Washington Jr. Just The Two Of Us, to become Dean’s 13th hit and co-incidentally her 13th biggest song with to-date consumption of 459,679 units; and Never Leave U (No.71, 5,779 sales), the debut hit for 27-year-old DJ Sonny Kane, sampling Lumidee’s 2000 No.2 hit Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh).

The introductory hit for France’s Gener8ion (41-year-old DJ and musician Benot Heitz) and Swedish rapper Yung Lean (30-year-old Jonatan Håstad), Storm II gained a toehold on the chart last week, and is now the fastest mover, jumping 73-37 (9,012 sales)

There are also new peaks for: Good Girl (30-25, 10,748 sales) by Cloonee & Prospa feat. Tristan Henry, Hey Everybody (Back In The Dance) (49-29, 10,174 sales) by Kolter, Mi Chico (38-30, 10,148 sales) by DJ Goja, Jason Derulo & Melody, Expectations (a re-entry at No.46, 7,943 sales, previously peak: No.54) by Olivia Rodrigo, Unethical (71-58, 6,863 sales) by Faouzia and Bad Times (75-67, 6,008 sales) by Imael Angel.

Overall singles consumption is up 1.10% week-on-week to 29,926,988 units, 2.70% below same week 2025 sales of 30,756,739 units. Paid-for sales are down 3.04% week-on-week at 254,199, 4.01% below same week 2025 sales of 267,595.

Leadership of the album chart changes for the 15th week in a row, with melodic Manchester/Stockport indie quintet Blossoms’ sixth studio album, Songs From The Wedding Cake, delivering their seventh top five entry and fifth No.1 (fourth consecutive) on first week consumption of 26,713 units (14,939 CDs, 8,387 vinyl albums, 640 cassettes, 1,152 digital downloads and 1,595 sales-equivalent streams).

Trailing The Beatles’ newly refurbished Rubber Soul until Thursday’s sales flashes, Blossoms pulled it out of the bag by achieving their biggest ever weekly sale.

Previously, Blossoms’ eponymous debut achieved consumption of 20,987 units when topping the chart in August 2016; follow-up Cool Like You debuted and peaked at No.4 on consumption of 19,138 units in May 2018; Foolish Loving Spaces delivered their previous highest first week sales opening atop the chart on consumption of 22,489 units in February 2020; Blossoms In Isolation/Live From The Plaza Theatre sold 7,477 copies debuting and peaking at No.5 in October 2020; Ribbon Around The Bomb attracted their lowest first week tally of 14,362 as it opened at No.1 in May 2022; and Gary polled 21,884 units debuting at No.1 in September 2024.

Blossoms has achieved to-date sales of 204,313, Cool Like You 114,602, Foolish Loving Spaces 94,428, Gary 58,216, Ribbon Around The Bomb 39,535 and Blossoms In Isolation… 26,717. Despite their album success, no Blossoms song has ever breached the Top 75 singles chart, although I Can’t Stand It reached No.77 in 2018. Their most-consumed track, from their eponymous debut album, is 2015 single Charlemagne, which peaked at No.98 and has to-date consumption of 1,276,962 units.

Comprising 33-year-old guitarist/lead vocalist Tom Ogden, 35-year-old bassist Charlie Salt, 29-year-old lead guitarist Josh Dewhurst, 32-year-old keyboards player Myles Kellock and 33-year-old drummer Joe Donovan since their 2013 formation, Blossoms were initially with EMI but released Gary on their own Odd Sk Recordings label, and their latest on Distiller, a 16-year-old London indie label whose previous highest charting set was Heatwave In The Cold North, No.6 for Reverend & The Makers in 2023.

Although seven solo acts have had more than three No.1 albums in the 2020s, Blossoms are the only group to do so, with four of theirs coming in the current decade.

Vanquished on what would have been John Lennon’s 86th birthday, and resuming its chart career at No.2 (24,268 sales), Rubber Soul was in line to become the third Beatles album to reach No.1 in an expanded edition (after Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road), and the oldest album by any act to top the chart. No.1 for eight weeks when first released in 1965, it returned to the chart briefly in 1987, 1997, 1998 and, most recently, in 2009, when it re-entered at No.10, as one of an unprecedented 16 albums in the Top 75 for the group, after their catalogue was released in remastered editions, simultaneous with the initial release of The Beatles In Stereo and The Beatles In Mono box sets.

Blossoms’ Manchester compatriot, 63-year-old guitarist Johnny Marr occupied a top three placing in all of the week’s sales flashes with his fifth solo studio album, The Art Of Everything. It dipped slightly in the final analysis, debuting at No.5 (8,894 sales) a notch below his solo peak, set by his last album, Fever Dreams Parts 1-4, in 2022. All five of Marr’s solo studio albums have made the Top 10, while his former Smiths colleague Morrissey has had 14 in a row. All four Smiths albums also made the Top 10, which means the bitterly estranged pair have never released anything that fell short of the top tier.

The rest of the Top 10: You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love (4-3, 11,281 sales) by Olivia Rodrigo, The Essential (5-4, 9,768 sales) by Michael Jackson, Visitor (8-6, 8,537 sales) by Sienna Spiro, The Art Of Loving (7-7, 8,368 sales) by Olivia Dean, The Life Of A Showgirl (1-8, 7,811 sales) by Taylor Swift, 50 Years: Don’t Stop (10-9, 7,147 sales) by Fleetwood Mac and Time Flies 1994-2009 (6-10, 6,866 sales) by Oasis.

Exiting the Top 10: (What’s The Story) Morning Glory (9-14, 5,683 sales) by Oasis, Put A Smile On For Me (2-62, 2,312 sales) by Keo and Stray Dogs (3-147, 1,467 sales) by Nothing But Thieves.

Eclectic South London septet Fat Dog have been through some changes since their 2024 debut Woof reached No.16. Still fronted by 27-year-old singer/guitarist and principal songwriter Joe Love, they surpass that with follow-up, Cancel Me (I’m Tired) debuting at No.13 (6,622 sales).

Also new to the Top 75: Lying Here, Wasting Away (No.64, 2,267 sales), a 2021 EP issued in three 10-inch vinyl fifth anniversary editions by Welsh indie band The Royston Club, whose full-length albums, Shaking Hips And Crashing Cars and Songs For The Sphere, peaked at No.16 and No.4 in 2023 and 2025, respectively.

The lowest ranked of three albums unleashed simultaneously by Drake in May – it opened at No.7 behind Iceman (No.1) and Maid Of Honour (No.6) - Habibti adds four tracks in its new FOMO edition, and re-enters at No.20 (4,279 sales).

Beyoncé’s 2006 No.3 album B’Day, reached No.31 last month when released in much-expanded 20th anniversary editions. A new quadruple vinyl edition of that expansion helps return the album to the chart this week at No.65 (2,255 sales).

The Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack returns to the top of the compilation chart, spending its 59th week at the apex on consumption of 2,825 units (286 Yoto cards, 19 CDs, 10 vinyl albums, 17 digital downloads and 2,493 sales-equivalent streams).

Overall album sales are up 0.23% week-on-week to 2,460,645 units, 17.36% below same week 2025 sales of 2,942,015. Physical product accounts for 319,579 sales, 12.99% of the total.

  • But it's not manipulation!!!

  • Unless I am mistaken every single one of Taylor's physical sales was sold within a limited pre-order window before anyone had even heard the song though. I get why the rules are the way they are and

  • 'Rein Me In' cruelly denied a 24th week at #1 on the chart without ACR, to put it further clear of the 20 weeks of 'Last Christmas', by Taylor's CDs.

I think there are more Patient Zero singles to be shipped next week. No way she sold only 11k.

she shipped well over 100k CDs in the US this week so judging by comparative proportions her physical shipments have had between here and the US before, there'll probably be plenty more to come - joy...

K Pop Demon Hunters equal the record for most weeks at number 1 on the Compilation Chart - 59 weeks matches The Greatest Showman.

8 songs in the top 10 being by female artists – is that a record?

It's one less than last week.

(Whether that was the record I am unsure but I think probably yes? Feel like I would remember if there'd ever been a full top 10 of female lead artists)

10k cds seems suspiciously low after how many IKIIKY shifted im guessing thats only a small chunk of them 🙌

Oh man! I wish Rubber Soul snagged the top spot, oh well, a runner-up positionnisnt bad for a 50 year old album. What's the total consumption for the album? Anyone knows?

'Training Season' and (almost certainly) 'The One That Got Away' have both declined again, going by these numbers.

If that’s all Taylor did on cd that would be interesting because it’s not much more than Madonna/Kylie and Madonna/Charli.

I think that "Sign of the Times" has also declined again.

If Taylor can get I Knew It I Knew You to 3 weeks Patient Zero should be fine

I wish he'd provided the breakdown for Rubber Soul too. Oh well, sounds like The Blossoms had either higher CDs or downloads (as it's no. 1 in real sales) while Rubber Soul had the higher vinyls...

'I Knew It, I Knew You' only got 2 weeks. 'Patient Zero' I guess will get 3 because she delayed the CD shenanigans by a week.
