New single from the band then, ahead of their new album This Is A Fix and their fothcoming festival appearances towards the end of the summer.

I think it's alright... nothing too dis-similar from their last album, but I think it's tons better than the new Bloc Party single at the moment.

Its Steve not Steven.

I think its their best single yet.

Its good they got Paul Mullen now too.

i dont reckon its better than the new Bloc Party but i cant get enough of it, it seems to be almost as good as 'By My Side'. I have a feeling 'This Is A Fix' will be rather good.

I also have a guitar pick formerly used by Frost of The Automatic and have also met all of them (with Pennie not Paul).

I'll be seeing them at Reading (which is rather soon :D)

I've been listening to the album SO much over the past week. I'd easily put it in my Top 3 albums this year - it really is good, definitely worth a download/purchase.

They're absolutely miles better now Penny's left, and Paul Mullen's in the band - he gives the band an extra edge now.

I really really really want to hear the album but i cant find a link without it being deleted before i get there

i have heard the track 'This Is A Fix' though and it sounds just like yourcodenameis:milo (Paul Mullen's old band).

Try Googling the album with Blogspot and Rapidshare at the end, you should be able to find it.

It's really good though. They certainly sound much better with Paul Mullen, his vocals are a lot better than Penny's. And Magazines is one of my favourite tracks of the year too - in the Top 5 of my personal favourites thus far easily. Is such a tune. Is going to be the 2nd single too hopefully.

I agree, Magazines is great! I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but it sounds pretty good so far :D
Heard the album now, amazing, the sound is sort of inbetween the old Automatic album and a Youcodenameis:milo album, its even better than the first album and Paul Mullen brings much more to the band than Pennie did. Proberly one of my favs album this year, on one listen :o
I really like this actually. better than most of the songs from their last album anyways

From culturedeluxe.com :

"Having inadvertenyly rid themselves of screaming, stomping idiot keyboard player Pennie, whose petulent backing vocals single-handedly destroyed the admittedly well-crafted indie pop of their early work, The Automatic should stand a chance, at least, of now sounding acceptable. However, this tale of how the lead singer was a `teenage Steve McQueen` is merely a pair of tight leather trousers and a disgustingly camp guitar solo away from being Bon Jovi. A decent opportunity missed I feel...still, it will outsell Pennie`s solo act comfortably."

Disagreed.

I think the decent opportunity isnt missed, especially after hearing the whole album.

Well, sales will tell the tale. They'd better hope the fans of 'Monster' have longer memories than usual though as I can't see them gaining any sales through critical reviews...I suspect I was kinder than most will be.

and do the singles with the stickers inside count now?? they deserve to be stuck all over town (tho tbh i've just stuck them on my wall at home)

Well, sales will tell the tale.

Well speaking of sales they are practically non-existent for Steve McQueen. Way better comeback than The Kooks and The Fratellis and The Pigeon Detectives but those were a comparative success

The Kooks Always Where I Need To Be 10/10

The Pigeon Detectives This Is An Emergency 4/10

The Fratellis Mistress Mabel 2/10

The Zutons Always Right Behind You 9/10

The Automatic Steve McQueen 9/10

IMO ^_^

imo opinon every song by The Automatic apart from 'Moster' is better than any tracks by all those bands.
