July 15, 200817 yr Thats the thing... if it was Girls Aloud or Sugababes doing this strategy everyone will be like ":yahoo: theyre number 1, i bet its because of the strategy :heehee:" (or something to that effect.) but now its McFly its all of a sudden the worst thing ever  I think its very clever and good for them! DO NOT say you wouldnt say that if it was GA or SB because you know for a fact that you would! (Wasnt aimed at anyone in particular but i was just giving an example) Edited July 15, 200817 yr by Johnjo07
July 15, 200817 yr the thing is, I've never heard of Sugababes or Girls Aloud doing any of the things they've done, especially those scandalous text things. Plus, they actually make good music
July 15, 200817 yr the thing is, I've never heard of Sugababes or Girls Aloud doing any of the things they've done, especially those scandalous text things. Plus, they actually make good music I mean if in general and if they were in McFlys shoes
July 15, 200817 yr fanbases can only get you so far, i'd say all the number #1s this year appeal to the wider public not just fanbases they are a combination of both, some more loaded towards the wider public (especially the ones with healthy long chart runs). some acts have minimal fanbases becuase they are "new" or not established, case in point basshunter and tings tings. the thing is most of the top40 acts don't have to rely on "mcfly" tactics in order to sell and appeal, so it is a pretty level playing field, many songs get to the top based on "merit" and especially the ones that last more than a week at the top. they have the potential to be "classics" of this year. dizzee number 1 position is worthy cause he appeals to the wider public not just to his limited fanbase, he managed to get huge sales based on the former and the fact he did little promo makes it even more impressive. getting his easy #1 was based on the strength of the track. in contrast mcfly's last few singles are totally forgettable, the lowest selling #1s of the year and never played again on the radio cause they don't appeal to the wider public (another example of not appealing to the wider public is a weak performance on itunes).i think mcfly like many boy bands of the past have to rely on image and looks (to hook in the kids) and the all important teenage girls (they fancy them) to buy their stuff and not because the music is any "good". also check the context....this is chart forum we are judging them on their dire chart runs too, which are dire. thats a fact not an opinion. and in my opinion this song is rubbish and totally forgettable and totally not worthy of being #1 if the wider public don't embrace it :arrr:

Plus, they actually make good music No you are right and the thing is, mcfly do it all the time and it just screams desperation. GA released TU a week before CTS which will have affected sales and the sugababes last single was only released on one cd. Neitherof these are desperate like mcfly. Its just a bit cheap and sneaky to me, they just play on their fans and pull out all stops. I mean this is a band that takes off all their clotes off like every week just to get in the press. July 15, 200817 yr Thats the thing I know loads of people who hate McFly but have said the same thing as other non-mcfly fans on here have said and thats that it is their best song and they quite like it. So i think it is actually appealing more to a wider audience than their usual fanbase. But I do get what you mean Perfecto, yeah their chart runs may not be impressive, yeah their singles may only appeal to teen girls or whatever, but they have one thing you cant take away from them and many other artists out there would love to have in their credit and thats 8 number 1's and to people who dont come on here and check out the Chart runs and all the background info etc... that IS impressive!
July 15, 200817 yr Author To be honest I don't know how they got to #1 I never expecting them to do it, Dizzee did 54k last week, last Tues Dizzee was on 13.9k, so I reckon his sales for this week is about 9k a slight drop on last week, and if you plus 5k it should give you a rough estimate of 14k in sales for McFly which is huge, btw this is only guess work, I don't have any sales info for today
July 15, 200817 yr Yeah Tuesday mids are usually wrong due to missing info arent they? Well it could happen but that must mean the 3 for 4 quid offer must mean all three singles are classed as 3 actual units...
July 15, 200817 yr popjustice was saying about that because he was saying about how they wore those stupid outfits on bb just to get publicity and that they were ofcourse a huge act as they have had so many number ones and then he said now try and name them and then he just gave up lol Oh lord, clearly that article was lost on you. It was about how McFly would never be taken seriously because of the cringe-worthy things they allow themselves to do.
July 15, 200817 yr Author Yeah Tuesday mids are usually wrong due to missing info arent they? It wouldn't change anything though if there was missing sales, as McFly would have more sales added to the sales of 14k that I roughly estimated. If you catch my drift. Also I blame McFly for my outcome in this this week's prediction game
July 15, 200817 yr but they have one thing you cant take away from them and many other artists out there would love to have in their credit and thats 8 number 1's and to people who dont come on here and check out the Chart runs and all the background info etc... that IS impressive! Yes but thats why they annoy people, coz all their number ones are forgettable and shoouldn't be number ones. Hell, they shouldnt be top tens!
July 15, 200817 yr Oh lord, clearly that article was lost on you. It was about how McFly would never be taken seriously because of the cringe-worthy things they allow themselves to do. Oh well sorry for not detailing it correctly, the point was, he was criticising them for looking stupid and has previously criticised them for having a string of unmemorable no1's.
July 15, 200817 yr My god, that is brilliant for Sharleen. If she could remain in the Top 3 by Sunday I would be so pleased! Great for the Sugababes with AYN too.
July 15, 200817 yr Aren't there rules in place against these pages and pages of McFly hate, or do those only apply when people are slagging off Girls Aloud?
July 15, 200817 yr Great, yet another c**P McFly number 1, I'm sorry but their attempt to go all 'credible' is painful, even Simon Cowell had a dig at them on BGT cos one of the dance groups used their 'cover' of DSMN which made me chuckle. I know people like them but as far as I'm concerned they are the biggest joke in the music industry and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that sales will drop off and Dizzee/Calvin will get another week at number 1, why should such a brilliant track be booted off the top spot because people have no musical sense, oh well, least if they are number one we can all have a laugh at how fast they drop  The day this lot split up will be the best day of my life
July 15, 200817 yr Aren't there rules in place against these pages and pages of McFly hate, or do those only apply when people are slagging off Girls Aloud? Its not really hate, i think what a lot of people are saying is quite valid and constructive. People here arent really hating on mcfly themselves, more for what they do and how they do it.
