The Script is set for number one battle

10:39 | Tuesday August 12, 2008

VIDEOS OF THE WEEK

The Cure - The Perfect Boy

R.E.M. - Man-Sized Wreath

The Script look set to end Abba’s reign at the top of the albums chart this Sunday with their eponymous debut album (RCA).

The Irish band’s debut sold nearly 17,000 copies on its first day of release yesterday, more than double the total of Abba’s Gold (Polydor).

As the Script and Abba battle it out at the top, Vertigo’s Noah And the Whale should challenge for a top five placing with their debut album Peaceful The World Lays Me Down, which sold almost 6,500 copies on day of release.

Lower down the chart, Jane McDonald’s Jane (JMD) should challenge for a top ten placing, while The Levellers and Late Of the Pier should be in or around the top twenty with Letter From the Underground (On The Fiddle) and Fantasy Black Channel (Parlophone) respectively.

On the singles chart, Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl (Virgin) looks set to spend a second week at number one on downloads alone, despite a strong challenge from The Verve’s Love Is Noise (Parlophone), which should improve on its debut placing of number five.

Kid Rock’s All Summer Long (Atlantic) and The Script’s The Man Who Can’t Be Moved (RCA) are also selling strongly and should both challenge for the number two slot.

Meanwhile, Madcon’s Beggin (RCA) looks set to be the highest new entry.

Thanks to Eightiespopkid @ havenforum

Katy Perry has got competition from the Verve this week, hopefully The Verve can grab a week

The top 3 in the album chart should see some high new entries from Noah & The Whale and The Script fighting for the top spot this week, unless Duffy springs a surprise , considering her new single Stepping Stone is appearing on iTunes already or ABBA maintaining their lead for a 4th week running.

That would be 3 weeks running, not 4, Mikey. :)

The Script a likely #1 - yes, but Noah & The Whale??

Even if the Verve manage an early lead (due to their 3 for £3 offer), I can't see them lasting the week - Love Is Noise is far from being their best work.

My Top 5 Prediction:

1 - Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl

2 - The Verve - Love Is Noise

3 - The Script - The Man Who Cant Be Moved

4 - Kid Rock - All Summer Long

5 - Rihanna - Disturbia

My Top 5 Prediction:

01. Katy Perry

02. The Verve - Love Is A Noise

03. The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved

04. Kid Rock - All Summer Long

05. Rihanna - Disturbia

04. Kid Rock - All Summer Love

05. Rihanna - Disturbia

Ditto and ditto again :P . I think Disturbia won't be at #5 in todays midweeks and The Script may be at #4.

I really want the Verve to be #1 and Bloc Party to be top 10, but both look quite unlikely :(

1 Rihanna

2 Kate Perry

3 The Verve

4 The Script

5 Kid Rock

8 Chris and Jordin

20 Kylie (Reckon the video will increase the position of The One)

21 Rihanna - Take A Bow

29 Nickleback - Rockstar

20 Kylie (Reckon the video will increase the position of The One)

63 positions is quite a lot to climb in a week though

Kid Rock’s All Summer Long (Atlantic) and The Script’s The Man Who Can’t Be Moved (RCA) are also selling strongly and should both challenge for the number two slot.

Does this mean the Verve are only #4? :o
