October 21, 200817 yr Sugababes' album is so low :o I'm actually amazed The Promise has sold so much already, I really didn't think people were taking to it this much - their first completely independant #1! :o I'm also ecstatic to see Man In The Mirror Top 40 even though it didn't even make Top 20 on original release :heehee: And Chris Cornell and Prince are benefitting from the X Factor effect too. I hope they keep it up.
October 21, 200817 yr Awesome to see AC/DC - a proper rock band - destroying a poor rock band like the Kaiser Chiefs in the album charts. First-time-poster-long-time-reader btw, I think a LOT of people here need to get their heads out of the sand. The number of people who said that Metallica didn't deserve No. 1 or that their single was "boring" was simply hilarious - it's easily their best album in 20 years, and while metal is an acquired taste and is many things, one thing it certainly isn't is boring. Then again, the MTV-effect unfortunately means that a lot of people don't have attention spans longer than 3 minutes and so probably didn't even listen to the Metallica single.

October 21, 200817 yr I agree the album does have some good songs on it, but to be fair... the music buying public haven't heard any of those, they only know 'Girls', and who would that entice to buy an album outside of their existing core fanbase? Not many. The single is also sliding down as if it has a brick tied to it. The next single is better, but I'm not convinced it will do all that well. I guess it does have the advantage of not being overshadowed by a HUGE single this time. problem is, whatever they release next, will have the stigma of coming from a flop album, which is incredibly hard to recover from just look at Hard Candy! and that was a No.1 album! I'll stick my neck out and say they won't have any more top ten hits from this album...which is a shame because the album is really quite good and much better than Change as a package, it just goes to show that a weak lead single can ruin a whole era, we've seen this happen time and time again
October 21, 200817 yr Thanks for the information. A sadly expected total flop for Pigeon Detectives there then, but Celine Dion... oh my!
October 21, 200817 yr Sugababes' album is so low :o I'm actually amazed The Promise has sold so much already, I really didn't think people were taking to it this much - their first completely independant #1! indeed, although the reception of The Promise on Buzzjack is 50/50 love/hate, I don't know anyone outside of this forum who doesn't like the song...all of my friends and family love it!
October 21, 200817 yr From DS: Girls Aloud heading for No.1? Well, the first midweek charts are in and it's good news for Girls Aloud. 'The Promise', as performed on Saturday's X Factor, is currently outselling its nearest rival, Pink's 'So What', by two-to-one. Razorlight's newbie, 'Wire To Wire', is also likely to chart in the top five. Though much is made of the group's impressive chart record - each of their 18 previous singles cracked the top ten - Girls Aloud haven't hit the top spot that often. To date they've only scored three number ones - 'Sound Of The Underground', 'I'll Stand By You' and 'Walk This Way' - and only the first of those was an original song. So while 'The Promise' isn't the group's best single - whichever way you look at it, it's no 'Biology' or 'Love Machine' - it's pretty impressive that their popularity still seems to be growing as they approach their seventh year. But will the girls still be number one come Sunday? Well, see what Cheryl Cole's mood is like on Saturday night and then make an educated guess.
