i read in the paper that Virgin are paying 100m to EUK which is what they are apparently owed by Zavvi.

The paper also said that they hadn't got a new supplier yet

i was in wollies Dundee today and it's not hard to see why its gone t*ts up tbh.

it's a bloody mess. i spent about 30 seconds in there.

Since I work there I have to say that's a ridiculous thing to say. Of course it's going to be a mess - only last Friday they announced a massive sale and yesterday they started the closing down sale. All stores have been absolutely MOBBED, we've got little money to spend on wages for overtime to spend on people coming in after hours to try and clean everything up, not to mention most staff have to be in on the tills during the day to help serve, bag, whatever. Customers are just leaving things lying absolutely anywhere and everywhere, which helps absolutely nobody. We on entertainment have to try and take off display cases for anything that sells out (which you can imagine is a lot just now). I was working a few hours last night after we closed and the amount of stuff which was just dumped was insane. There light bulbs in the DVDs, napkins next to Guitar Hero etc.

We are trying our best, but we're being stretched to the absolute limit here. My store only have one working pricing gun, so we have to write out most prices manually and we've had to go out and actually buy black bags ourselves because we've only got the tiny Woolies bags left.

Not to mention this "closing down sale" is clearly just something the administrators have said to get customers in (and it worked nonetheless) since it's only marginally different from the sale that was already ongoing. There was only a couple of departments that went from 20% off to 30% off, that was it as far as I could see.

So was Middlesbrough, but nothing new there...

When i went in on Sunday they seemed to have blocked off about a quarter of the store :o I'm guessing they were running out of stock to fill the store.

It was chaos when i went in too

the one in Stockton on Tuesday had loads of room near the CD's. :(

Everybody Needs A Woolworths...but not anymore sadly.

I know its only 10% off entertainment but I wonder what impact Woolies is having on sales of the Rhydian album which was covering the Top 20 album chart in both Woolies stores I went in!

Did they have no other stock?

Did they have no other stock?

The new Leona, KOL and Same Difference and single copies of Will Young, Beyonce, Coldplay and The Preists.

I went into a local branch today (Middlesbrough) - no sign of a new sale, but absolute bedlam, the shop had even more of the tornado chic look, and mile long queues at every till. A fair amount of DVDs and games still, but not much music.

You should see Preston's - not so much a tornado, more military ordinance.

Edit - Obviously, they're not selling ordinance there.

my Woolies stopped the pick 'n' mix cups ages ago, they've only had bags for at least a year :(

and it will probably drive yet more trade into supermarkets as opposed to HMV, and certainly not Zavvi which is terrible...it wouldn't surprise me if Zavvi goes in the next few years, I know very few people who would choose it over HMV

Ours in Felixstowe stopped selling the cups about a year ago...then started again a couple of months ago at more expensive prices :( (£2.99 for a small cup )

Did they have no other stock?

I'm guessing that was the biggest profile CD they had left so they probably just wanted to display it so people would see it.

But wow did we get a delivery today (no idea if other stores got something similar).

CDs we got in that we've been sold out of for ages or didn't get in in the first place:

Take That

Killers

Guns N Roses

Girls Aloud

N-Dubz

Duffy (deluxe ed)

Stereophonics

Enrique Iglasias

Only Men Aloud

Mamma Mia Soundtrack

Clubland 14

Pop Party 6

Salvation Army

R&B Collection

and probably some I'm forgetting. Still 10% off the CDs, think most single albums (bar Duffy @ £12.97) were coming in at £10.97, so that works out at £9.87 and the compilations are £14.97 which is £13.47.

And we've still got our stock of Britney, Same Difference, Rhydian, Pink, Priests etc.

Chances are your local store might not have had a chance to put them into their charts (which are probably non-existent right now), so check at the counter and you could find they've had a similar delivery.

Pity the vultures who have flooded into the stores over the last few days (and whinging about not everything being 50% off!) couldn't have supported the stores before now! I wonder how long its been since some of them were last in there??

I bought what could be my last CD album from Woolworths earlier today. And ironically its also the very first CD album I bought there.... Back in 1990 I got George Michael's Listen Without Prejudice (cost £9.99) but brought it back because I didn't realise the crackling at the start of Soul Free was intentional (to be fair the assistants didn't realise either!). I exchanged it twice but then got my money backa s we assumed it was a faulty batch. Anyway tonight I was looking at what was left of the chart CDs and there it was and half the price it was 18 years ago - £4.50 after the 10% discount!

its pathertic to think that people moan about trivial things. i was working today and id say it was BAD....i mean who comes in on a sunday to complain the shops a mess??? SAD PEOPLE with nothing better to do! We had our staff night out on Friday and it was the best time we had in ages boosted moral for Saturday ill tell u that - but to the point of store cleanlyness....its all the customers fault i mean ..... if u want it buy it, if u dont, then dont friggen touch it u idiots!
