Ooh Meadowhall one closing. As long as the one near me remains... Facebook pics from my friends who worked at Zavvi tell me that the Ipswich one is closed too now. Eep.

Phew we've still got one in Manchester, :) Surprised Meadowhall has gone already...

Wasn't Zavvi called Our Price before it became Virgin?

LOL at the title. Or is it because it would be difficult to understand if it was just "More Zaavi stores to close"?

Oh no, absolutely gutted the Aberdeen shop is going. I know a few folk who work there, disappointed they've lost their jobs :(

xXx

woop Dundee bits another bullet.

exact opposite from woolies who close the dundee store pretty quickly

how many stores have they got left open now

I went into the cardiff store last week and its just crap left in there now

I'm going into Middlesbrough tommorow to see whats on offer, possibly for the last time :( It's like a dying dog waiting to be put to sleep :D

A lot of Middlesbrough is like that

Haven't really got the cast TBH, but I might have a browse anyway...

Looks like the end of the road has come for Zavvi :( Shame, but I guess this leaves us with only HMV and supermarkets to get CD's from :snif:

And, knowing our luck, HMV will go to the dogs (no pun intended). But it hopefully won't be that bad.

How long ago was that? I swear i remember a shop called Our Price

Its annoying how there is Stoke, Sheffield, Derby and Manchester between 20 and 25 miles away, but none are really that near.

Yes there was - but they were not run under the Virgin name.

The stores, the remainder of the former Our Price music chain, were sold by Virgin to Brazin for just £2 in October 2001. Brazin added 40 smaller former Virgin stores to the chain last year.

The original deal included investment by Virgin in the stores in return for a share of future profits, and also allowed Brazin to converts its Australian IN2 Music chain to the Virgin brand.

The Our Price stores were rebranded with the Sanity fascia, Brazin’s flagship 70-store music chain in Australia. The deal was brokered by Brazin director Ian Duffell, a former Virgin Executive. However, Duffell has now left Brazin, making the lines of communication between the two retail groups less certain

Brazin has also been hit by a strange boardroom dispute which saw founder and chief executive Brett Blundy launch, and then last week drop, an AU$91m buyback plan to privatise the company.

As part of the process, Brazin has commissioned consultants Bain International to conduct a strategic review of all its businesses, which include lingerie chains as well as music retailing. Brazin indicated that it planned to close music stores in both Australia and Britain as part of a cost saving exercise..

Through his acquisition vehicle Yoda Holdings, Blundy said last week: "A degree of uncertainty exists in valuing the businesses of Brazin. In this context, it would not be appropriate for Yoda to proceed."

Another Brazin director, Tony Ho, has now made the unusual step of publically asking Blundy to clarify his statement.

Dundee has got a massive range of Blu Ray :o

And 50+ copies of Catfights and Spotlights. EPIC FAIL.

It's still pretty full. tho they have closed off a corner where the adult section used to be :kink:

Our Price was separate from Virgin. It was bought over by an Australian company and renamed Sanity ISTR but it didn't last long under the new name.

Well i went into Zavvi yesturday and figured out why it's going down the pan. The Saturdays album which I bought in HMV for £7 was £12.99 :o

Most of the albums and DVDs i were looking at were considerably cheaper at HMV even with the 25% discount <_<
