Administrators for entertainment retailer Zavvi have announced that its remaining stores will cease trading by February 20th.

The closure of the stores will mean 446 job losses- but administrators were able to save some positions after deals

reached with HMV Music Limited and Head Entertainment.

360 jobs are expected to be saved after HMV bought a further five stores.

Head Entertainment, a company set up by former Zavvi chief executive Simon Douglas and business partner Les Whitfield, are purchasing another eight.

Tom Jack, Joint Administrator of Zavvi UK, commented: "This is a fantastic result for the employees and customers of the stores concerned.

"Whilst it has not been possible to secure a sale of the business as a going concern, we are delighted to have been able to secure continued employment for 629 zavvi employees."

Zavvi, formerly Virgin Megastores, entered administration on Christmas Eve after being crippled by the collapse of its supplier, Woolworths' Entertainment UK wholesaling division.

It had a total of 125 branches across the UK and Ireland employing over 3,400 staff.

So soon? :o My lovely Zavvi gone in just two days
It’s deeply saddening news, but it was inevitable.

Oh OK, apparently it's already gone *is blatantly not aware of his surroundings*

:cheer: HMV have bought the one in Nottingham so I'm fine :cheer:

But it's a shame to see so many other losses!

Hence the mellow face?

terrible news. I knew it was on the cards that they would all close but we need music stores to stay open. At this rate it will be HMV, a few indies and Asda / Sainsbury's / Tescos etc and little more.
There are no Zavvi around me so im not really affected and i cant see the local HMV closing anytime soon as its always full...
Was just shopping there a few days ago, such a great store  I could see them moving things out though
Sad news for the people who work there but actually I was waiting for this announcement. It came a bit earlier though.

Not only is it sad to see the demise of another popular music chain, but also it is sad to see

more people losing their jobs.

R.I.P. Zavvi, like Woolworths, Our Price & Music Zone you will never be forgotten. :(

When into HMV in York today, and Enrique Iglesias's Greatest hits was £13 and all of his studio album's were £10! ( What I might expect for a brand new album!) No wonder people now shop at supermarkets and online with those kind of prices!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

i loved Chavvi. The multibuy dvd offers were epic.

i wonder if Dundee has become one of the head stores?

This Head Entertainment is taking on 2 out of the 3 Zavvi's here in Bristol. Hmmmmm - I will have a good nose about when they open! Shame about the otehrs that are going - I hope there won't be too many cities with no music stores now :o

Head Entertainment Stores:

Bluewater

Bristol - Broadmead

Bristol - Cribbs Causeway

Cardiff

Dundee :w00t:

Leeds

Liverpool One

Manchester - Arndale

Very happy Dundee is saved. I'll be checking it out when i get back from Aus

Awww, no Middlesbrough :( Quite shocked today to see it had already closed, hadn't been in weeks...
