Born Stefani Germanotta in Yonkers in 1986, she attended the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU while performing at open-mic nights around the city. An early collaboration with rapper/producer Akon led to her signing with Interscope Records, which released her debut album THE FAME in October 2008. She scored a number one hit and a Grammy nomination with her ode to lost, drunken nights, "Just Dance." The song went on to top the charts in several other countries, helping GaGa to develop an international following. The vocalist made headlines at the 2009 Brit Awards when she, along with Brandon Flowers of the Killers, performed with the Pet Shop Boys on a medley of the synth-pop duo's hits, including the classic "West End Girls." - HMV Video here: Chart history (Year peak title): 2009 01 Just Dance (Lady Gaga Feat. May 17, 200917 yr COME ON LILY #4 PLZ Oh come on. :nocheer: evil! That's the meaning of 'not fair' - missing #4 because of a boost from another song formerly over 1k behind... on a SATURDAY. The sales have gotta be pretty damn close. New peak for Eminem anyway. Good song, but it kept Lily off #4. :( Edited May 17, 200917 yr by B-rye

Following the runaway success of the single "Smile"--which hit the top spot on the U.K. singles chart--the album is blend of pop-reggae, hip-hop, and U.K. R&B delivered with witty lyrical barbs and a chart-friendly pop sheen. While her brash outspokenness has made her a media fixation in England. - HMV Video here: Chart history (Year peak title): 2006 01 Smile 2006 06 LDN 2006 21 Littlest Things 2007 15 Alfie 2007 08 Oh My God (Mark Ronson Feat. May 17, 200917 yr I saw the video for 'Not Fair' the other day and I couldn't believe that was it. :o Such an AWFUL video that cost 2p to make, it looks like a badly done 1970s TOTP performance.
