(some of the songs Juranamo posted at the top are also good, just that such a large proportion of my standouts so far are at the other end x)

Paddington James ranks the 2011 #1's
Great countdown Paddington, enjoyed reading along and following, a very nostalgic time for me. Though many of these #1s aren't the best, but that seems to be a trend from around this time. 'Someone Like You' is very much not a song for me, I don't quite get the same feelings many do from it, but I can see why someone might and how it became so beloved and it's certainly got a good sense of quality throughout it - much preferred 'Rolling With The Deep', though can definitely understand it topping this list. 'We Found Love' a great runner-up, it's not quite a perfect song for me (actually completely agree with you re: Rihanna rankings, it's a little less essential than her best) but as a dancefloor anthem, it and 'On The Floor' are about the best of what was making it to the top in 2011 and those I'm very happy to see in the top 5. My ranking, I think 'Promises' is the main one I was excited to see at #1, though Nicole close behind and the big cultural moments from this year, We Found Love, On The Floor, What Makes You Beautiful, just beyond that, lemme try to give out of 10 ratings here: (9/10) 1. Promises 2. Don’t Hold Your Breath 3. We Found Love 4. On The Floor (8/10) 5. What’s My Name 6. What Makes You Beautiful 7. Give Me Everything (7/10) 8. Grenade 9. Louder 10. Read All About It 11. Someone Like You 12. Party Rock Anthem 13. Changed The Way You Kissed Me 14. Wherever You Are 15. Cannonball (6/10) 16. Loca People 17. Glad You Came 18. Price Tag 19. No Regrets (5/10) 20. Heart Skips a Beat 21. Stay Awake 22. We R Who We R 23. Swagger Jagger 24. Don’t Go (4/10) 25. When We Collide 26. She Makes Me Wanna (3/10) 27. Dance With Me Tonight 28. All About Tonight (despise both of these tonight songs oops x) 29. The Lazy Song (1/10) 30. Don’t Wanna Go Home 31. Wishing On a Star 'Dirty Talk' and 'Sweat' from the Aussie 2011 #1s would have been much better than half of these! Good list of 2011 faves also, Cheers, Saxobeat, the Claire Maguire songs, very nice picks.

Murder investigation into death of Ann Widdecombe
Real interesting how the police narrative has evolved with the public on this case, first no announcement of murder, then it's a murder, then we have the guy, oh but no it's the wrong guy, now it's this other guy who drove from Yorkshire to murder her, only now he's been rearrested instead on commission of terrorism and the investigation has been taken over by the counter terrorism unit, and we'll see what they find out. Natural of course, but certainly an interesting one to follow and it thankfully seems like there's a lot riding on getting a conclusion to this, can't be having political figures murdered like this.

Saint Agnes - The Father, The Son And The Holy Beast Industrial punk band Saint Agnes caught my attention with their new album Your God-Fearing Days Are About To Begin, after a few listens of that, I decided to send the track that contains the title line, 'The Father, The Son And The Holy Beast', which epic title aside is an excellent punk tune and a very worthy representative of being my 150th entry as I continue from Worldvision in my slightly harder-edged mood.

Motionless In White - Afraid Of The Dark I should get into the habit of including spinoff entries here, because this metalcore banger from veteran band Motionless In White deserves it, having drawn the American straw in the Worldvision contest, I turned to one of America's best alternative scenes and got a nice 16th spinoff place out of it.

miki - ça pik un peu quand même Also known sometimes by its English title 'It stings a little though', 184 we chose to send this French alt-pop tune and got rewarded with a very good 13th place, the second time we got 13th place this year, making our year with 3/4 top 20s as of 184.

must catch up with my thread: The Warning - Kerosene Our entry for BJSC 183, an fiery (as you can see in the video) piece of Mexican rock, got us a great result in 17th.

Norway v England
I know the WC has been expanded, but 2 semis in the 20th century, '66 and '90, and then two semis in what we have done of the 21st, within 8 years of each other, it's an actual incredible improvement. Whether we win or not, we've been legitimately muscling our way into the top-tier teams over the last decade (as opposed to, in the anti-England narratives, a second-tier team that got lucky once) and it's wonderful to see.

Wimbledon 2026
Fantastic match from both, well done Noskova! Women’s matches that I’ve seen this year have been real good.

What an insane second set, I always dream of seeing these sorts of comebacks, gwon Muchova. That said, either would be a great champion.
