Definitely agree with you there. 2000 still had a lot of late 90's sounds, maybe because a lot of the hits early on in the year were indeed written in the 90's. 2001 seemed to be a bit of a turning point in the way pop sounded definitely. It all got a bit more slick and mature (and less interesting as a result...).

exactly right, the producers and groups realised people were getting bored with the 'bubblegum pop' routine and they needed to work harder to attract a new audience by wrapping a great pop record in a more mature 'look' if you know what i mean - hence bands like westlife changing to bands like mcfly with guitars etc!!

Well, it is about them making it into the big time and it was those songs which did it :P

That Kevin rudolf song was quite good actually, although its basically Let It Rock Part 2

Far too much AutoTune though. I think there should be a limit to 1 artist per song using the AutoTune, otherwise it gets too crowded.

Biffy Clyro just squeezed in in the end then. They're probably number 1 in the physical singles chart though.

thats 5 top 40 hits from the album now? good stuff!!

Marina and the Diamonds, really just Marina Diamandis (the Diamonds are the fans), was born in Wales to Welsh and Greek parents in 1986, although she has often claimed to be from Ancient Greece. After dropping out of four different music courses at four different universities, Marina decided to make her own way in music, and began writing her own unique brand of left-field pop songs under her new stage name. Following several low-key releases on indie labels, and a year spent touring and playing BritainÆs expansive festival circuit, Marina recorded her debut album, FAMILY JEWELS, in late 2009. - HMV

LOL, they didn't censored "You've been acting so f***ed off lately" (or whatever), the first line of 'I Am Not A Robot'. Anyway, I find this very overrated, and think she should've chosen 'Oh No!' as the 2nd single. -_-
