November 9, 201015 yr I found Rated R a bit depressing and macabre tbh. And not like Love the Way You Lie depressing, but full-on. Russian Roulette was certainly a very interesting song, I'll give her that. The song is very good musically, but I think it was a bit too good, in the sense that I don't want to have those emotions when I'm relaxing in my room, or out with my friends or what not. I do like Rihanna though. She's a pop artist, but she ventures into urban music a lot, which I really like. That woman seems up for anything (musically, and otherwize :kink:), and that's why I think she's a world-wide superstar. I was about to mention that she could do like Beyonce's album, where half of it is RnB ballads, and then the other half is like electropop or something, but Peace beat me to it. Although, with Beyonce's album, I did find myself liking primarily the Sasha Fierce songs, and finding the "I Am..." songs a bit boring. Video Phone was immense!
November 9, 201015 yr I liked the dark side, but i also like the happier more fun side. Such a fantastic artist who can do both so well. She is so original whatever she is doing as you always know a rihanna song when it is on the radio or tv, she has that unique sound and image. Only Girl is arguably her best song but my other favourites are Russian Roulette + Dont Stop the Music + Unfaithful. Her voice can do both so well, so why not show both sides? I think its great she mixes it up, i guess like beyonce does. :) Run this town, Live yor Life, Disturbia , Russian Roulette (or even the mediocre Rockstar) would be closer to her dark side. Don't stop the music is a nice party song but not a distinctive one for Rihanna's tallent and voice or character. Beyonce doesn't have a dark side. Rihanna will probably do both since she prefers her more original direction but the crowd is more keen on her mainstream one.

The I Am... side is my favourite side. I love Beyoncé's uptempos, but I prefer her ballads. They're beautiful. Oh, and just to add: 'Video Phone' will forever = :puke:
November 9, 201015 yr The I Am... side is my favourite side. I love Beyoncé's uptempos, but I prefer her ballads. They're beautiful. Oh, and just to add: 'Video Phone' will forever = :puke: Completely agree, her ballads. But she also does the upbeat songs so well too ie: Sweet Dreams  (not videophone :puke: lol) Rihanna and Beyonce are just brilliant i think. ^_^ Sorry we've gone off topic  Looking at iTunes lead i'm sure now Only Girl will be back at #1 tomorrow and on sunday. :D Edited November 9, 201015 yr by Peace
November 9, 201015 yr Run this town, Live yor Life, Disturbia , Russian Roulette (or even the mediocre Rockstar) would be closer to her dark side. Don't stop the music is a nice party song but not a distinctive one for Rihanna's tallent and voice or character. I wouldn't say Live Your Life is close to her dark side tbh, even though it's hip hop. I actually find the song incredibly uplifting, both lyrically and musically. I agree with you about the others though. Also Love the Way You Lie is very dark, seeing as it's about domestic abuse, and the song culminates with the girl being tied to the bed and being burned alive (although I suppose it's metaphorical). Russian Roulette is by far the most depressing though imo. You could easily mistake it for being a song about suicide. I agree about Don't Stop the Music too. Only Girl is a bit like an improved European version of that song imo. And I seriously think I might be literally the only person in the world who likes Video Phone. The video too, is total wowzer! :D I'm not sure if Only Girl will be back to #1 by tommorrow, but I do expect it to return there by Sunday, unless Take That start panicking and do some serious last-minute promo. I would be happy if The Flood got to #1 too though. Edited November 9, 201015 yr by Eric_Blob
November 9, 201015 yr I'm so happy for Rihanna. The album is released next week, isn't it? Do you think she has a change to be #1?
November 10, 201015 yr Shayne down to #7 on iTunes. So, he won't be top 5 on sunday. :( I can't see Take That at the top on sunday too.
November 10, 201015 yr :o @ The Royal British Legion. The concept is genius. Nice way to bring in money for charities who support the men and women fighting for us. With Remember Day it would be great if it could reach the top 20. Also it would be hilarious to listen to just silence. LOL @ Nadine but as Tescos says "Every little helps". Did she actually think people go to Tescos to buy CDs. Edited November 10, 201015 yr by Kieran.
November 10, 201015 yr so with rihanna selling 30,000 in the first mids, does that mean shes looking at 70-80k this week.. no 100k again :( 1st midweek = 52k total=121k 2nd midweek = 49k total=134k 3rd midweek = 32k total=80k (hopefully 100k)
November 10, 201015 yr why is Kylie's 'Better than today' still so low in the charts even after the X-Factor performance? another flop for her???? Don't panic just yet!! It's not released till the 6th of December. It's currently only available as an album track. The download bundle and physical, when released, should push it up the chart. Hoping for a top 10 but it'll more than likely do a 'GOMW' and make the top 20. Kylie's appearance of 'Better Than Today' on Children In Need on the 19th of November may help also towards sales.

November 10, 201015 yr So it's done, Take That won't be number 1 this week ... Don't know if I'm happy aboout that since I love both tracks. Where is Cheryl in the singles ?
November 10, 201015 yr In a way, it is Take That's fault - they are the ones that brought the release forward. But it does now mean that next weeks chart battle will be even more important. I can't wait for next week!
November 10, 201015 yr Wow. Big achievement for Rihanna considering the amount of hype Take That have been recieving lately

November 10, 201015 yr Author I really thought TT had it in the bag this week, I didn't expect Rihanna to hog the top spot for a second week. Looks like the BEPs track is going to be big #24 amazing... already :o , I just hope they get a X Factor gig, they were brilliant last year. Physical release date 29th Nov

November 10, 201015 yr Poor nadine & kylie. :o Hoped they would both do a lot better, not looking good, just needed better material. WTF R U on - and can have i have some please? How can you compare the performance of these acts this week so? http://209.85.12.227/430/177/emo/crazy.gif Nadine - its her DEBUT album, released THIS week! Kylie - its her 11th studio album - Aphrodite, which was released MONTHS ago in the summer (start of July), when it got to #1 with 80K, when overall sales where much lower than they are now. The last single (GOMW) underwhelmed the public to such an extent that only after a few weeks of the physical release, the album bombed out of the top 100 (for a couple of weeks) for the first time since the album's release, leaving little chance for its further success. Also she is on the wrong side of 40 for female pop acts and such is her continued length (she been around for, er, over 2 decades in case you hadn't realized) + degree of continued commercial success in the UK means she well saturated the market. That she managed to get Aphrodite back into the top 40 bears no comparrison to Nadine chart results this week, as the numerous positive comments about this Kylie achievement in this very thread suggest. Aside BJ poster 'Silver Rocket' has pointed out how the nature of the single chart has changed, while once established (single (+ album esp. Robbie) acts like Robbie + Kylie might expect a few singles off an album to hit in or near the top 10, now they might only expect 1 big hit per album ('if they get it right' ). You used to be able to expect a follow up single to benefit from the big success of the previous one but not any longer - just look at Eminem's single releases from his current album, a big smash lead single, then an even bigger monster hit that potentially could be the biggest seller of the year, then look at the performance of, (even considering his massive album sales due to the Rhianna duet) his new single with 'Lil Wayne' - it could hardly be more opposite! :o although its difficult to say with the overall chart sales increase it doesn't seem to have made much impact on his album, so its not like you could say part of its success in increased album sales either...
