December 19, 201015 yr Compare the Christmas charts from the years before Cowell came along and now. Apart from a few dead years (2001 springs to mind) they were nearly always pretty buzzing. Hardly anybody releases Christmas week or the week before now, except mostly American artists. Not hard to guess why, is it? However, I do think downloads may have also had a small impact in killing the Christmas race too. Either way it's DEAD. Even if they cant get to number 1. Whats wrong with number 2. TBH I cant think of anyone that has released a great christmas single in years. But as I said before, since when were bands interested in being the christmas number 1. Lets look at the songs at number 2 for xmas - 2000 - What Makes a Man - Westlife 2001 - How Wonderful You Are - Gordon Haskell 2002 - Sacred Trust - One True Voice 2003 - Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End) - The Darkness 2004 - Father and Son - Ronan Keating featuring Yusuf Islam 2005 - JCB Song - Nizlopi* 2006 - Patience - Take That* 2007 - What a Wonderful World - Katie Melua and Eva Cassidy* 2008 - Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley 2009 - The Climb - Joe McElderry* All pretty $h!t overall. A lot of what you 'don't care who wrote' wouldn't be around without bands like those. If you actually want creativity in music then you SHOULD care unless you actually want to just listen to the same old songs for the next 20 years? :unsure: But you can't condemn all those amazing songwriters to the dustbin, just because they can't sing ! They need someone to sing their songs !

I think this list proves the point that it was interesting before XF - Westlife tried and failed, Gordon haskell was a genuine xmas hit, Sacred Trust flopped against GA, The Darkness was part of a HUGE year of xmas chart interest (and this is widely acknowledged!), for Ronan, see Westlife, Nizlopi was a genuine hit from nowhere..........
December 19, 201015 yr I love Surifn' Bird and think the episode of Family Guy it is from is epic! However, I also love When We Collide and think that Matt is a deserved winner of the X Factor. The Christmas charts have always been a bit of fun and some of the novelty songs over the years have been fantastic! I am sure lots of people weren't overly happy when Mr Blobby beat Take That to the Christmas number one in 1993 but looking back, I reckon most people have gotten over it by now. In the end, Take That are still around selling millions and Mr Blobby hasn't really been heard of since. It was a fun, festive gimmicky song, and while it didn't change anyone's life, I am sure it made a lot of people smile! Can't everyone just like whatever songs and music they prefer to listen, and others respect that we all have different music tastes? Happy Christmas Buzzjackers! :) :) :)
