December 19, 201015 yr I'd say this is a fair opinion, as the real 4"33 debate is that, if a musical composition has no musical notes, does that still make it a musical composition? (and obviously in your opinion it does not). It was definatly an interesting idea John Cage was trying to put across, infact I think part of his point was for people to ask themselves is silence art? can the natural sounds of the enviroment be music? Well, then I'd say 4'33" is more of a thesis than a form of musical art. With this scenario I would agree.

December 19, 201015 yr I agree that he hasnt done anything original BUT what if he did. Would we be saying its art ? NO So how come when someone else does, then it is. Its a double standard Who says they will? You're missing the point also, we want the so called 'artists' in the X Factor to come up with something original. No one takes them seriously because they're Cowell's puppets, THAT'S THE POINT. If Cowell came up with something original, like write a groundbreaking song and someone like Kylie had it then people would give credit to him. Can you name a manufactured band that has done anything original in the 21st century that people have been influenced by? Anyway JLS wrote their last single and while its not groundbreaking its not completely rubbish so at least they have at least a little say in their music now, do you think anyone who wanted to be a singer dreamt of doing karaoke covers and lasting no longer than 2/3 years?
