December 19, 201015 yr true musicians such as Trent Reznor do release their music online for free ;) of course there has to be a money making element as people need to live, but the fact that the whole music industry is based on making money that it's ended up that everyone sounds so generic and similar in order to make money, it really has ruined the creativity of music. And how many people in the charts are new artists? how many new artists in the chart make music that is original and does not sound like something that has already been popular? These are the reasons I take no interest in the chart, because all the music is so generic and commercial because it's mostly created to sell and make money. business over art, it's a bad thing. Couldn't agree more. That's were music lost its magic and meaning! Everything about creating songs that will be stuck on people's mind (Media of course help this cause) and buying $h!t music! But, i still think there are acts in the charts that are pure talented and creative, in a smaller percentage i guess! The worst is those huge overrated names rule charts and don't let any other artists to sell how they should sell!

Art is all around you. :) Also, just because it's art, it doesn't mean it's good or creative. :lol: That's down to opinion. Just because most people could draw a picture of a tree, it doesn't make it not art. :lol:

December 19, 201015 yr I try not to insult personally, but it's hard when people are so against a simple understanding, here is some information about John Cage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_cage We must remember that Cage composed 4"33 in 1952, when the minimalism movement was at a height, and the fact that Cage was an experimental composer, this is art because it's and uncoventional and original composition where the performer does not play the instrument, but however consists of the sound the enviroment the performer is. Basically, it's Cage trying to make a statement that any sound can count as music, not just musical notes etc. We could argue all day whether or not it is art, infact i'm not even saying it is, i'm saying people can argue that it is, infact looking wikipedia their is a $h!tload of info on the composition, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4%E2%80%B233%E2%80%B3 I get where your coming from now! But I suppose these campaigners are ruining the 'beauty' and wit behind 4''33, saying that 'Silence is better than X Factor' making Cage look like a dumbass! December 19, 201015 yr My 2 favourite artists (tori amos and levi kreis) will never have a single that sells what the x factor winner will have, but i don't need to get annoyed by it. i can purchase their music, they are happy making their music for their fans. the only artists/fans that will be upset by what matt achieves via the x factor are the jealous ones who only dream of those kind of sales, otherwise it wouldn't even be an issue to them. i'm not annoyed by the fact my favourite artists won't sell as much as the x factor winner (that said RATM are a favourite band of mine and have lol), i'm annoyed by the fact that for musicians to be successful they have to enter reality tv shows, or to be mega generic, leading to complete unoriginality in the music industry. i'm not upset by what Matt will achieve thanks to the x factor, i'm upset (or at least cynical) that for genuninly good singers miss out on success just because they havent won the x factor, I think singers such as Matt should be able to get successful on their own accord and talent rather than entering a reality tv show being the only way for them to actually become successful. Its not just silence though - and its no less 'art' than some forms of modern art. Some people are so closed minded! this. i think "is silence art?" should be a question and is one of the things John Cage was trying to get across when he composed 4"33 in 1952.
