music is what it is and the likes of bob the builder and mister blobby have filled the charts (at xmas) in the past. they aren't real talent or hard working artists.

 

some get their lucky big break others don't, music is a business afterall.

How is silence art? Anyone can be just as 'artistic' as John Cage?

Why has this climbed? Not that I'll complain, great to see it still doing well. Will completely overshadow 'It's OK' though.

What is stifling the charts, is the over abundance of low quality American music, due to the lack of support of British artists on the radio.

I think they should have come with an actual song! i don't know what's the silence cause (guess against X-Faxtor) but i find it bad idea to use a silence song! If is for charity, you do everything possible to sell the "product", especially these days. Anw, good for them for donating money

Its not entirely empty. There is more to it than the musical content, open your mind (and thats a logical conclusion too).

it's not an empty mp3, they went to a studio and recorded it using the original sheet music. secondly they are not "eejits" they are people who have given money to charity this week, you want logic for buying a silent mp3? the logic is that you are giving money to charity.

 

Quite frankly mate, you must be a f***ing horrible person if you think people who give to charity are morons. but whatever if paying towards simon cowell's 8th mansion because you get a bad biffy clyro cover in return is more your thing than giving money to charity, then so be it.

Indeed, and Matt has got his break via the X Factor - the impact he made through his hard work sadly failed (as it does for countless others).

 

The point is that the X Factor shouldn't be the sole way for new singers and bands to be discovered - we need more creative ways of hearing new music.

The mp3's do at least include some form of sound.

theres so many version on itunes meaning it rises above songs that only have one version and arent selling as much eg coldplay!!

yes music is art, that is one of the most important aspects here, and John Cage was a true ARTIST, do some research on him.

 

I'm glad you see music is art, and I shall tell you how X Factor is not art, it is because the x factor is here to make money, that is it's only reason, it does not wish to make good music people will enjoy, it is here to make a $h!tload of money, it's not about the art, it's about the money, and that is my main issue with major record labels and commercial music. it's a karaoke show, it definatly is not art, if people enjoy it good for them, but if you think people doing karaoke is art, then you are mistaken.

 

oh and who is it hurting? well all the independent musicians who try to do something interesting with their music but get no where because they arent on a reality tv show making unoriginal and commercial music.

Well said, but can you find another way? I'm not with X-factor (neither against) but i know a lot of people who never get the chance to sign this f***ing contract. Sad but true!

I don't like the Biffy clyro number, original or cover.

 

and I've never bought any form of charity single.

 

But I can understand why someone would want to buy a collection of sounds arranged in a form which may be pleasant to some peoples ears.

 

I do give money to charity, but I do it in a way that doesn't make me look like a fool.

but surely footballers are similar they make money from their talent(too much imo) and they are glad because of it but there are few footballers who would say their main love is money ahead of football itself!!

I understand people are sick and tired of the X Factor take-over on the charts, but buying 4'33 minutes of silence for charity and calling it art is even more pretentious than Simon Cowell.

If you want to contribute just give them the money directly. If you buy silence from iTunes you are also paying a fee which won't proceed to charity, I'm guessing.
