No. It should put him at under 60k. If x is #2 then 2x = #1 (Example - CTWYKM) AND 2x = x + 30, from there x = 30, 2x = 60k. BUT if it's more than a double, let's say 2.5... then it'll be like that: 2.5x = x + 30. 1.5x = 30, x = 20. And 2.5x = 50. So I think Example is between 55k - 60k today.

Confusing :D

But either way he should get over 100k this week :cheer:

I reckon it will be similar to Jlo's total maybe slightly lower although 125k would still be pretty amazing for a british artist who I wouldn't call a fanbase act

Arctics heading for a fourth straight #1 début then. Anyone know any other acts that have done this from the start of their career? I know Keane have.

EDIT: Coldplay have as well, excluding the live album that interrupted the four #1 studio albums of course :P

Example on ~60k is great :w00t: Will hopefully come close to Grenade's first week total.

I assume 19 in just down to #6? I'm sure it'll take back #4 by the end of the week. 21 ahead of BTW already :o I didn't expect it to overtake for another week to be honest.

Great to see Coldplay #3 today, I thought they may be #5 behind Nicole and Aloe - blue Aloe isn't even top 5! They'll probably end up falling to around 6 by the end of the week. But at least it's an 11th top 10 hit for Coldplay in the bag and a 12th for Chris Martin (including the one with Kanye :kink:)

Can The Prodigy be added back into the artist update for the albums please.

Oasis, if you don't count The Masterplan (which was a b-side collection).

Yeah, that's another one. (There were also a couple of singles boxsets that went top 25 between (WTS)MG? and BHN)

I wonder if any solo artists have done it?

The Beatles went to number one with their first nine studio albums. The only one of the 12 not to go to number one was Yellow Submarine.

Madonna's first album only got to number six (on rerelease). The fourth didn't get to number one either.

19 is down to 8.

Also, it has to be said...

How on EARTH are Wonderland in the albums top ten? Everything was lining up for them to be the biggest flop girl group for a long time, yet they're heading towards a hit album? Even a lot of the big girl groups in the singles chart can't get those!

Seriously, the singles and albums charts couldn't be any more out of sync with each other anymore if they tried, this year has really highlighted the divide in the target consumers of each format.

More a sign of how front-loaded the albums market is at the moment due to the low sales, no? There's often a direct correlation between the two. Most of the acts will be gone in a couple of weeks and replaced by a new set of front-loaded albums. This awful cycle might last up until Christmas...

If we look at the acts who have been on the chart for more than 5 weeks in last week's top 40, we have Hugh Laurie (he's on 4 but he'll have 5 this week anyway), Caro Emerald, Foo Fighters, Fleet Foxes, The Overtones and Alfie Boe who are there with no hit/top 20 single on the album. Most of these are "old fashioned" (for want of a better word) styled genres (jazz, etc.) that have never been big singles sellers. I guess the thing that tips towards the trend you're pointing out is now big rock/indie acts can have strong album sales without any hit single to their name, something they never struggled with getting before.

I do hate it when acts do really well on the albums chart without doing so on the singles chart though, or vice versa :(

Robbie Williams, obviously...

You both misread my post - I specified débuting at #1. Of course I know The Beatles and Robbie went to #1 with their first 4 albums, but 'Please Please Me' entered at #8 and 'Life Thru A Lens' entered at #11.

Oh! :o I'm sure it can still reclimb at least a couple of places by the weekend anyway.

Wrists duly slapped :P

I don't really get how you classify a band = solo success. By that logic Michael Jackson would have zillions of hits more counting those with The Jackson 5 and The Jacksons.

I do understand that people would mention Coldplay when talking about the solo success of Chris Martin but those two shouldn't be mixed.

Band is a unit of its own and the line goes with the credit. Jai Ho by AR Rahman feat. The Pussycat Dolls and Nicole Scherzinger is a hit for both Nicole and PCD. I Hate This Part by PCD only for the band.

This brings to mind the reporting of Gerri Halliwell or Robbie Williams, in the early 00s, having x number of number 1s including those with their groups and those solo. I remember thinking it was reasonable to add the totals.

I also think it's a bit unfair to the other members of the band who are never recognised and then suddenly people say "oh CHRIS MARTIN has had 12 hits, 11 with Coldplay and one as a solo artist"

OTHER MEMBERS DO ALL THE WORK! What are the chances of Guy Berryman getting a solo hit :P

But did he didn't feature on any solo singles whereas Chris did AND is a member of Coldplay so HAS had 12 hit singles. :P By trying to prove a point wrong, you actually cemented it as being right...

I was racking my brains and came up with George Michael & Boyzone! :D
