July 17, 201115 yr I'm still surprised that the 2nd fastest seller of the year (141000) drops after just 1 week! I think it's still sold a lot this week, but The Wanted also have high sales this week. I'm glad The Wanted are #1 this week, but I want DJ Fresh to get it again next week, although I'm not sure if he will now.

July 17, 201115 yr Although that actually charted before TAALS (but peaked after it) now I think about it :P So it depends on how you qualify the 'last guitar song to sell more than TAT' it fell quite quick after re-peaking though, I wonder did the Wanted really not know they were number 1? I'd assume it was pretty obvious Edited July 17, 201115 yr by Chart Wizard
July 17, 201115 yr I like The Wanted. They seem very down to earth and genuine, and their music is sometimes pretty good (Heart Vacancy, Lose My Mind, Glad You Came) but unfortunately they're a bit weak live and Nathan (the youngest one) really does my head in. He seems very arrogant and full of himself.
July 17, 201115 yr Foster The People having some longevity :o :o I thought this would spend a week T40 and drop out like most of the indie songs this year. I think it's because their a relatively new act, but The Vaccines never did this well. its been one of radio 1s most played indie songs these past 2 weeks so it must be keeping interest up for it, though its also because its a great song.....i didnt think you would be a guardian reader!! :P
July 17, 201115 yr In the 90's though, they never had charts that consisted of 30 club bangers. They had more variety back then. Like there were rock songs in the chart and stuff. There just isn't room for that now. its weird but i could have swore i was having an arguement with you on here a few months back about this and i was taking the opinion you are arguing for now??
July 17, 201115 yr its weird but i could have swore i was having an arguement with you on here a few months back about this and i was taking the opinion you are arguing for now?? I don't think I've ever had a proper arguement with anybody on here before! :o But I remember someone (which might've been you), saying that MTV is to blame for the lack of rock music and the prominence of pop music in the charts these days. I disagreed with that, because if, say, 4Music started playing lots of rock songs, the kids would just watch another MTV channel that plays Lady Gaga and Taio Cruz all day. The MTV channels are just fulfilling supply and demand. It's not really their fault tbh. People who like rock music don't watch as much MTV as pop fans do. I disagree that MTV and Capital FM are to blame for the horrible mess we're in now (not least because Capital DOES play rock music), but I do agree that our charts have pretty much minimal variety. Even a couple of years ago there was so much variety compared to now. And when I look at the iTunes for other countries, or when I look at their charts, most of them have so much variety compared to us too. There's something wrong with the UK's music tastes, that's for sure. But MTV isn't to blame. And Capital is doing nothing wrong, people can just press a button and listen to Radio 1 or Kerrang! if they want.
July 17, 201115 yr yeah that was the one...and yes replace the word arguement with debate sure then. istill think the kids would have no need to turn over from mtv to somewhere else to listen to gaga and rihanna though if pop music wasnt soo focused on the sexualisation of their brand of music.....alicia keys said as much in her guardian interview on friday.good to see there is hope ahead though with great songs by artists such as jessie j,adele and ed sheeran top 40. its also to do with the changes in people who buy singles nowadays afterall great rock, indie and guitar songs have always charted well in the past - eg 1992-97 and again 2004-07.
July 17, 201115 yr it fell quite quick after re-peaking though, I wonder But it's been a consistent seller since it stopped plummetting. (And it was a fairly consistent seller between its two main chart runs as well I think)

I agree that the future looks bright. Because honestly, I don't think it can get any worse than this, and as you said, I think artists like Adele and Ed Sheeran are "saving" chart music. I get good vibes about the future (compared to now), although part of me does think that the good songs to come will just flop and the pop songs from Pitbull, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga will just keep being massive hits as usual. I hope I'm wrong about that though. But yeah, I honestly don't think it can get any worse. I think this will probably be a low point, and in the future people will look back at 2011, and be like "Wow, the charts were terrible back then".
