August 2, 201113 yr Author I remember the Busted 3" CD single being released...there was a pile of them in the Coventry branch of HMV!!!! Was there any 1.44MB 3.5" floppy singles too?
August 3, 201113 yr Author Wasn't Wet Wet Wet's single Weightless not a ringtone or something? I think the whole aim of the Wets' fans was to download the ringtone as it counted to the chart....there was a CDS and download released too so I think the ringtone may have contributed to 50+% of the sales.
August 3, 201113 yr I remember reading in Music Week (when I subscribed to it) that someone released a single on t-shirt! it came with a USB stick though!
August 3, 201113 yr I remember reading in Music Week (when I subscribed to it) that someone released a single on t-shirt! it came with a USB stick though! Sky Larkin released their 'Sommersault' single as a watch. They might have released it as a t-shirt as well. I seem to remember a few years ago that there was a band who released a chocolate 7inch record. It played well on a player, but unfortunately once it melts, you've lost it for good. I also have vague memories of there being a 7inch single that was recorded on a block of ice. I might have actually made that up, but it would be a great publicity gimmick for an upcoming band.
August 3, 201113 yr Genesis released an EP on a 3" CD in 1977. Before that there had been a few reissues - I think there was a Doors one with Riders on the Storm and Light My Fire. Back in the days of vinyl, as well as coloured vinyl there were picture discs and the odd release in a different shape. There were also a few releases with two songs on one side. However, rather than the boring idea if one song followed by another, it was pretty much pot luck which one you got as they both started from the outside. Not sure if I've explained that one very well

Are you sure the last one wasn't an April Fool story? Or, possibly, a release from the Icicle Works.

Not sure if I've explained that one very well  The Monty Python album 'Matching Tie & Handkerchief' was two completely different albums on the same side and it would be completely random which one you get. So I assume that's the same thing that you're talking about?
August 3, 201113 yr The original 12" of "Pop Muzik" by M was like this - both the A side and the B Side "M Factor" were on interspersed grooves on one side, it depended on exactly where you dropped the needle as to which groove it landed in and which song you got.
August 4, 201113 yr Could a 3 to 5" inch CD work on a standard CD player? There was an adaptor which you could use! It was a plastic thing with space in the middle to put the 3" CDs into. Worked fine on most cd players but not so hot if the player was front loading.

Ahead of their time? or a typo? :) There were also a few releases with two songs on one side. Not sure if I've explained that one very well  "Double grooves" I think they were called! There were 2 concentric grooves and the song played depended entirely on which one the needle landed. I have a copy of the 12" version of Kate Bush's "Sensual World" which played either the standard mix or the instrumental. Around the same time Fine Young Cannibals released one for "Good Thing" with 2 different mixes of the song.

August 4, 201113 yr They were just cheap plastic! A bit like the jukebox adaptors you got for 7" singles. I got one free with my first hi-fi.
August 4, 201113 yr Johnny Foreigner released their most recent EP in the FRISBEE format a few months ago: http://letsgetcynical.wordpress.com/2011/0...jofos-frisbeep/ It sold out in 24 hours.

Whoah!!! Perhaps Cher Lloyd could release her next single on her Jermey Kyle lie-detector results ;)

August 5, 201113 yr Ahead of their time? or a typo? :) Good point. 1977 was the original release daate (on vinyl, obviously). It must have been a reissue
August 5, 201113 yr Good point. 1977 was the original release daate (on vinyl, obviously). It must have been a reissue :lol:I've just checked - it was a re-issue! From 1988 and released on both 3" and 5" CD formats.
August 5, 201113 yr You could only fit about 1 minute of music on one of those... You could probably get away with about 3 and a half minutes of 64kbps.
