Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone

I heartily second this! Beautiful song

As someone has said already, Green Day - Time of Your Life (Good Riddance). I could actually see someone singing this in the live shows on say either an American Classics week or a Rock Week. Frankie or Janet maybe?

its already been mentioned but 'Angel' by Sarah Mclachlan is a must.

in a dream world someone would cover a song by a heavily underrated artist and bring it to a new audience, like anything from siobhan donaghy or a fine frenzy

Almost Lover should have been a worldwide smash, I really think it could be now as well seeing as piano ballads are 'in' again at the moment.

X Factor should have a Steps week, maybe 5,6,7,8 could finally go top ten

I would never want to hear a song I like butchered on X Factor. Luckily I never do. Praying they don't go for an 'indie classics' theme night this year - although if they did then it would be mostly fluff like The Killers, Oasis or Razorlight.

I agree with GoodDelta that it's the combination of the song being sung on the show and iTunes jumping on the fact to repromote it that is leading to these high re-entries. It's as good as the song being re-released like back in the day off the back of an advert play.

Almost Lover screamed hit but never got promoted in the UK. She has done well in the US though. A Steps week would be awesome. I'm still annoyed they have missed 'Words Are Not Enough' off of the ultimate collection though

'The Day Before You Came' by ABBA. It only reached No.32, in 1982. I did not like it at the time.

It seemed to be a 'Funeral Music' to my ears.

However, I now love it, & it has gone down as one of ABBA's very best Singles. Even an 'NME'

Journalist said it should have been a UK No.1, & they were not noted for liking ABBA.

Blancmange's 1984 cover of it reached No.22.

It is time that ABBA's version made the UK Top 10 - which would also give ABBA a 20th UK Top 10 Hit.

ARGH, I just had a horrible vision of someone attempting to do with "Rebellion (Lies)" what Joe McElderry did with "Don't Stop Believin'". Arcade Fire deserve a top 10 single but I don't think my ears would cope.

X Factor and Steps. Could there be a worse musical combination than that? I do, of course, use the word "musical" in its loosest sense.

OH, forgot these.

30 Seconds to Mars - Kings and Queens

Paramore - anything really but preferably Misery Business or Decode (if it's "The Only Exception" I will kill whoever is responsible)

This SO has to happen! Imagine Janet Devlin taking on One For Sorrow, Sami Brookes belting Tragedy, Joe Cox doing his spastic hand dance to Stomp or one of the made up random groups changing up It's The Way You Make me Feel

I am also DYING for 'Mr Brightside' to FINALLY go back inside the top 40 and (possibly) re-peak at it's deserving position of #1! It's definitely going to happen at some point soon (maybe if they hurry and reduce it to 59p?) for a song that has been named the number 1 song of the noughties by numerous polls and stuff, a #10 peak and just 3 (YES, THREE!) weeks top 40 altogether, it's just not right. It's a staple inside the iTunes top 300 and it just needs that little, extra boost. Really hoping it's soon!

That' one that I wouldn't mind getting the exposure - with a lot of my favourites it's a case of "I don't want all these goons suddenly jumping on this song they've never heard before and only knowing because of reality TV" but with Mr Brightside, I can't believe there's anyone who follows pop music who DOESN'T know that song.

But hey you don't have to listen to it, just enjoy the song flying up the charts. :P

anything by Belle and Sebastian

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

Janet - Every Time

James Blake - Limit To Your Love

Two Door Cinema Club - Something Good Can Work

Stairway To Heaven is another good one. It's amazing how much of a classic it is considering it was never even a single here (although it has made the top 40 due to being made available to download).

Maybe Metallica - Enter Sandman could re-chart decently (although not a new peak as it's already a top 5 hit)? That's probably the most 'XF-friendly' of Metallica's output (and their most well-known song).

*cough* Nothing Else Matters *cough*

Stairway To Heaven would be such an incredible performance  seriously, I could see everyone going mad for that and it shooting up itunes, although I can't help thinking it would work better on a show like Britain's Got Talent as it's more of a guitar led song

The trouble with them doing "Stairway To Heaven" is that it is an eight minute song, and to make it much shorter wouldn't make much sense.
