This Love is very catchy (especially the chorus), but like with a lot of songs, the amount it was on the radio when it was popular frankly DROVE ME MAD.

I liked Misery a lot from last year. Again, very catchy, and I can't believe it wasn't a bigger hit.

Most likely because the opposite happened, and radio (for whatever reason) decided to abandon them. :( Irrelevance struck them and when radio saw that people wanted a bit of Jagger, they jumped on the new bandwagon, ignoring the reason why they abandoned Maroon 5!

I don't really understand this whol gift card thing? Is it just a normal iTunes card given as a gift?
Well it's mainly for people who have been given a new iPod/iPad/iPhone and have been given an extra gift (the gift card) so they can get what they want from iTunes. It also doesn't help the fact there are EOY countdowns happening and stuff. (Hence why the gift card effect, affects older songs better than newer songs)
Party Rock Anthem is very average (and so are Moves Like Jagger and I Gotta Feeling ). I think PRA was so popular because of the shuffle dance, and it did admittedly have probably one of the best music videos I've ever seen, even if the song itself was not that good.

Party Rock Anthem is also the song with the most longevity in the US charts of the century so far. And who said dance music wasn't popular there?

Kudos to it for its chart success though. Unlike certain other pop artists, LMFAO didn't have to come to the UK to perform the song to make it a hit. It didn't even get that much radio airplay.

I dont like the song but it would be great if we could get 3 million sellers in one year for the charts!!

Best music video? Really? :P

I'd always go with more "emotional" videos in terms of what I'd consider the best - something like Leona's 'Happy' or Kelly Clarkson's 'Because of You'. The former was actually one of the main reasons why I became such a huge fan of Leona again. The other main reason being the song itself. :P

I agree with that...video has too big a say on hits nowadays. And i know people on here say its just away of promotion but when an artist has money to produce a massive video they have a better chance of maintaining their dominance in the music charts...its mtvs fault though not the artists.

As the first song on mtv in 1981 says - 'Video killed the Radio Star'

It's madness that Christina Aguilera is about to get a million-seller soon too! :o I've loved her since I was a little child, so it's amazing for this to finally happen. :)

And just quite hilarious since she was known as "Floptina" this time last year. Talk about a comeback!

Christina is apparently premiering her new single next month. I'm excited to hear it, and I think it could be a decent-sized hit. I think Moves Like Jagger will boost Christina's career a bit, kind of like how LTWYL boosted Rihanna's career, except on a lesser-scale (since Rihanna was still fairly popular in the Rated R era, and she did a bigger part in LTWYL than Christina did in MLJ).

It's not a 'comeback', it's a featured appearance (and a very small one at that). If she's successful again in her next era then I'll stop thinking of her as 'Floptina' but at the moment she very much still is.

Okay, clearly you don't like Christina then? But Floptina is going to get a million-seller and claim the year-end #2 next week, and I'm sure she'll have a top 10 hit next year.

I agree. I wish music videos just didn't exist in all honesty. I do like watcing them occasionally, but it makes mediocre songs become hits sometimes (see: every Pitbull and LMFAO song (apart from Give Me Everything, since that already climbed into top 10 before its music video)), which I don't like. I know I'm a Rihanna fan, but she'd honestly do fine without music videos I think. And most of my other favourite artists don't put any effort into their music videos at all, which is good, since it means their songs are better, but it hurts their chart performance.

I think music videos have especially led to a lack of rock music in the charts because nearly all the mtv channels apart from mtv rocks play actual indie music...whereas an artist like say jessie j will be played on mtv hits simply because they have had a hit before a bit like capital radio.then they also get polayed on all mtv channels!!It means indie artists simply had to dilute their style of music to get a chart hit and more revenue to make a new album!!

Which is a minor featured appearance and not a proper comeback. As I said.

And the next sentence I addressed by saying I'll stop calling her Floptina if she's actually successful with her next era.

True.

I guess the difference is that RnB artists like Usher and Kelly Rowland have made more generic songs like Down For Whatever and Without You to stay in the charts, and on the radio and on MTV, whilst I think most alternative and rock artists would refuse to do that. So they'll have to wait until chart music moves back in the guitar direction to have hope of getting back in the singles chart (and therefore on top 40 radio like Capital and MTV).

I don't know which I'd prefer, although I do have a lot of respect for the rock artists staying true to their music at least. I hate Usher so much at the moment. :(

Well, you can keep calling her a flop whilst tens of millions of people have been hearing Christina Aguilera singing on a day-to-day basis for the past 5 months if you want. :)

EDIT: Sorry, I just read that, and I didn't mean for it to sound so patronizing. But I do think she's somewhat vaguely relevent now.

SHE isn't going to have a million seller. Maroon 5 are. She was a featured artist. There's a huge difference. At the same time I don't include LTWYL as a million seller for Rihanna either as again, it's Eminem's track.

Lets hope it happens soon because the more variety in the charts the better...the slow ballads this year have been a breath of fresh air for me!

But you could argue eminem brought riri on as the perfect partner on the track as she is THE biggest pop star on the planet at the mo, but the quality of the track itself led to it being even bigger than it could have been!

15. The Wanted 'Warzone'

^ Seems much like Gaga's 'You and I', the 59p reduction has prevented it from missing the top 40 (although 'You and I' would've had a #33 peak w/out the reduction). Shame really, I was hoping it'd miss the top 40 and signify the decline of boyband success - especially with One Direction doing poorly (bar 'What Makes You Beautiful') and JLS' third single managing a #41 peak - and that looks to be it.

17. Lou Monte 'Dominick the Donkey'

25. Justin Bieber 'Mistletoe'

32. James Morrison featuring Jessie J 'Up'

53. Jessie J 'Domino'

^ Looks like Jessie's success will carry on into 2012 then - the 'Domino' video was released this morning, not sure if a single release is planned, but it could well climb into the top 40 on downloads/video alone. Great to see 'Up' back in the top 40 too - hoping for an official placement this week - deserves it.

Lol @Christina being raised to the heavens. Her part is soo minor, she had no baring on this Million seller at all.

P.S. I doubt she will have huge success album wise ever again, just like Kelly Clarkson, she's done!!

But she's still a featured artist. Hence Eminem ft Rihanna. (Eminem's song featuring Rihanna, not a song by Rihanna).

I don't think he usually likes doing songs with female pop stars, but I think he had Rihanna on it because the song is about domestic violence. Rihanna, having been a very public example of the song's subject matter, and also being a pop singer, was the absolute perfect person to have feature on the song I think.

If the song had been credited Christina Aguilera ft. Maroon 5, and they swapped the parts they sing, I'm pretty sure it would've sill sold a million.

Warzone will probably last longer in the 40 than any of Lightning, Gotta Be You and Take A Chance On Me did

How do you know all this? When I click on the Top 1000 link it says its the 24th of December. When I open my iTunes and go to the singles chart on the iTunes store it has "Warzone" at no.26 and Lou Monte at no.2 still.

As i have argued before 3/4th singles should be always 59p.

Mistletoe seems to be staying steady, Lou Monte should stay around the top 30 at least!
