Midweek Charts update: Linkin Park and Maroon 5 run close for chart honours

Just a few thousand sales currently separate Linkin Park and Maroon 5’s new albums as both US bands look to top the UK artist albums chart for a third time.

Linkin Park’s newly-issued Warner Bros set Living Things has been leading the market all week, but remains just ahead of Maroon 5’s new A&M/Octone/Polydor album Overexposed going into the weekend, according to Official Charts Company Data.

Linkin Park previously reached number one in the UK in 2003 with Meteora and then again in 2007 with the follow-up Minutes To Midnight, while Maroon 5 opened their UK chart account with two chart-toppers: Songs About Jane in 2004 and It Won’t Be Soon Before Long three years later.

Asylum/Atlantic act Ed Sheeran is up from 7-3 at this stage of the week with + thanks partly to coverage of the Radio 1 Hackney Weekend, which also helps the Roc-A-Fella/Mercury title Watch The Throne by Jay-Z & Kanye West progress 20-6. Meanwhile, the two albums that debuted in the top two positions last Sunday have seen their sales fall by around 70% this week, sending Def Jam/Mercury’s Justin Bieber dropping 1-4 with Believe and Cheryl Cole’s Polydor offering A Million Lights falling 2-5.

Cole’s manager will.i.am has every chance of topping 100,000 first-week sales with his Interscope/Polydor singe This Is Love featuring Eva Simmons. The track is presently around 17,000 copies ahead of its closest rival, fellow new release Don’t Wake Me Up by RCA’s Chris Brown, having sold 83,000 copies so far and should give him a first solo UK number one this Sunday. Having debuted at the top last weekend, Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa’s A&M/Octone/Polydor single Payphone is now down to three, while Atlantic act Flo Rida drops 3-4 with Whistle and Cheryl Cole’s Polydor-issued Call My Name falls 2-5.

Wow At CB... Could have been number 1 like in 45 weeks from the 52 in the year and he is only number 2.
YES! Kelly Clarkson rising from Mondays mids to #25! :D Nice to see Nicki almost top 20 again, too!
If you read the article, it suggests that Will.I.Am is the song on 83k with it having a 17k lead on Chris. It doesnt say he has reached 100,000 yet. I'd say its 83k for Will and 66k for Chris Brown.
Great sales 125k for william and 100k for chris brown and 70k maybe for maroon 5. I agree with the poster above its great to see all these no1s selling massively in the first week but i hate how theyre sales half by week 2 - but thats what happens when you hold songs back!!
Good start for Muse no 27 already. Hopefully Top 15 by Sunday

Its sorted now, I was doing everything in a rush, just quickly scanned through it, notes to self in future "to read update"

Good to see Muse top 30 already, its not started falling drastically on itunes yet so hopefully it will be a few places higher by Sunday, very good sales for the top 2 but otherwise this singles chart looks really dull, is there any reason why Titanium has kept re-climbing, 59p?

I believe so yes. I wonder if 'I Can Only Imagine' will be reduced if it contines to flop?

We might lose Loreen and Azealia from the top 40 chart on Sunday, if Nicki Minaj's new track Pound The Alarm enters I should imagine it will, hopefully Loreen can hold #40, currently Azealia is at #40. If Plan B enters, than its goodbye to Loreen, a lot of praying is needed to keep Loreen in the chart, pardon the pun used in that sentence. :heehee:
Hopefully Kelly maintains her position so she's a non mover this week :D Slowly heading towards Platinum cert. :D

Plan B is not chart eligible until the album comes out.

Flo Rida's album has been omitted from the update again, I assume Jedward are just out of the top 40.

A bit surprised to see Muse as high as #27 already, they are already falling on iTunes so I think they'll probably end up debuting at around #22-5. That's not TOO disastrous I suppose but I was hoping it could at least match the first partial week success of 'Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)', with any luck the Olympics boost will make up for this quite poor start though.

Shame to see Watch The Throne down to #6 already but should safely re-enter the top 10 anyhow, having fantastic longevity really. Niggas In Paris still looks like a cert for a top 20 re-entry too and NCITW hasn't fallen from Wednesday :D

will.i.am has very healthy sales there, he should be on for 110k+, maybe even close to 120k? That's far more than I expected at the start of the week. This will probably be the last good sales at #1 for a while though, I'm fully expecting Payphone to climb back to the #1 with low sales and it could stay there for a few more weeks with increasingly worse sales since there's NOTHING out to stop it :manson:

You don't think that P!nk's new song stands a chance at number one?

I don't know how I keep on forgetting Flo Rida in the albums, probably because I keep on mistaken it for the single. Epic. Fail. Me.

I don't... hardly any promo for the single and I don't think anyone is aware she has a single out.

When is P!nk's single out? Is she doing OA/OS or something? Because I wouldn't have expected it to be released for a few weeks yet, at which time everyone should know it's out. But it's hard to judge when it hasn't even premiered yet.

Pink has a new single out?
