Excuse me but what the fuck are you on about? Radio 1 playlist a LOT of songs that are 'rocky' and 'don't appeal to tweens'. Look at Muse and Twin Atlantic on their A-List right now. I thought R1 critics were generally annoyed about R1 *ignoring* songs that 'appeal to tweens' in favour of 'rocky songs' :huh:

Maybe you haven't heard, they aren't happy with their current listenership age of 30+, and are trying to get the average age way down..

And I wouldn't call having 2 rock songs on the playlist huge evidence that they in anyway champion the genre

Ben Howard - Old Pine

Muse - Survival

Simple Plan featuring Sean Paul - Summer Paradise

Twin Atlantic - Yes I Was Drunk

Bloc Party - Octopus

Fun - Some Nights

Of Monsters And Men - Little Talks

Spector - Never Fade Away

The Vaccines - Teenage Icon

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - Household Goods

We Are In The Crowd - Exits And Entrances

* The Gaslight Anthem - Handwritten

* The Killers - Runaway

* The XX - Angels

Two Door Cinema Club - Sleep Alone

Young Guns - Towers

Bastille - Bad Blood

Theme Park - Jamaica

All of those have at least vaguely rocky credentials. Oops.

WTF is this guy talking about? Radio 1 get investigated by Ofcom if they don't play alternative music! :huh:
To be fair bands like Twin Atlantic get played to attract the 'tweens' who are of the emo kind!

Massive relief for Cheryl and Little Mix - definitely top 10 for the former then. I was worried it would literally just miss out and peak at #11 or #12 which would be really annoying, especially as I prefer the song to Call My Name!

I have a feeling Wings will be bigger than the usual 1-3-7... chart run seen by most X-Factor acts, especially with R1 now on board. Hopefully anyway :wub:

The 'usual' for first proper singles by XF artists is to not make #1 at all - only Leona and Alexandra have actually managed a second #1 and they both had really good chart runs :P

I think 'Wings' will make #1 but not sure it'll have much longevity. It's probably my favourite first proper single by an XF act actually which is weird as I didn't even like them on the show!

I saw the Ai Se Eu Te Pego thing on the website yesterday and noticed Becky G on there - she's featured on Cody Simpson's song Wish U Were Here. :D

Yey for Cheryl added but boo at Justin not moving up and Conor out. :(

Not understanding the sighs of relief over Cheryl's playlisting, as if she's ever had to struggle for airplay. I see she's C listed on radio 2 too.

"Handwritten" and "Runaways" are both great to see - the former as it confirms it's the next single and could have "Gold On The Ceiling"-style success (peaking higher than the even better lead single thanks to constant R1 rotation and a timely price reduction), the latter as it's a relief they're not snubbing The Killers this time and it's a while to go until its release.

Handwritten has been on the release schedule for a few weeks now

No Owl City? :(

I keep looking out for it, but if they're actually pushing it in mid-late September I wouldn't expect to see it for at least a couple of weeks yet.

In the download age the release date isn't really as meaningful as whether radio backs it, though.

Michel Teló's Ai Se Eu Te Pego is Greg James' 'Big Thing' this week, although not on the playlist yet. I wonder if it will get added in the coming weeks, shame they've got a female rent-a-rapper on board for the UK release though, it's great as it is :/
I hope it's big. I've only just got round to listening to it, but I ADORE it. It's fantastic and very, very catchy. :wub:

Can't believe the original has over 411 MILLION views :mellow: Was it really THAT big everywhere? :o
