September 19, 201213 yr What makes people so sure P!nk will sell a lot more in the long run? I dont think The Killers sales will die off as quick as people will expect. They've always been consistant albim sellers. I can see 'Battle Born' being a sort of mini-'Mylo Xyloto' sort of success. Because P!nk will have the hit singles to support it. The Killers will mostly sell till Christmas. Edited September 19, 201213 yr by Marina Hurts
September 19, 201213 yr But other than the lead singles, The Killers have never had to worry about future hits to get the album selling. I think people would prefer to listento an album by The Killers than they would a P!nk album for example. I know that 'Runaway' hasn't exactly set the charts alight, but i'm confident they'll still manage to shift the albums as they've never really had to have a major hit to sell the album. 'Spaceman' kept the album selling for D&A as did 'Read My Mind' for ST. But yeah, I don't think they're gonna die off as quick as people think. (But i'm probs alone in thinking this)
September 19, 201213 yr Yea, Bad 25 is not such an event as Thriller 25 was.. Although Nero Remix of "Speed Demon" is fantastic But there's a legendary concert included on DVD from July 1988 in Wembley with Prince Charles & Diana :)
September 19, 201213 yr Battle Born is their second best... and I'm a HUGE fan, P!ink album is also very good and I don't like her too much... I'm here for The Killers of course!
September 19, 201213 yr Because P!nk will have the hit singles to support it. The Killers will mostly sell till Christmas. I completely disagree, P!nk is more likely to get mainstream promotion for her second single and stay high up to December and "Battle Born" will do well in the January sales. Either way, it's a dire start. Having platinum in the bag is hardly an achievement when your last three albums have sold over a million.
September 19, 201213 yr The Killers outside the lead singles have not really delivered hits of their previous album, that said, while each single was released (even though they flopped) the album always managed to benefit from the releases which resulted in sustaining sales and chart longevity. I dont see why battleborn will be any different, granted sales have declined in general since there last release but i still have faith in the Killers having yet another very successful album. Brandon Flowers solo album did relatively well without any promotion and just 1 single release so the fan base is still there. Pink, does have the nack of selling over long periods and like the Killers her trend will probably continue with album, both acts are not as big as they were in their previous era's but both will still be successful, on a personal opinion i would be happier for the Killers to achieve the most success though.
September 19, 201213 yr I really hope Grizzly Bear are top 20 or even top 10. Veckatimest reached #24 so I reckon it's more than possible.
September 19, 201213 yr Personally I'd be amazed if the killers don't get it, it would certainly be a major turn up for the books given previous performances from the respective acts. Guess we'll know soon enough.
September 19, 201213 yr Would 90k be decent sales for the killers and pink in 2012? I'd say so (for 2012 at least) 2012's highest selling #1s: 01 116,745 (Lana Del Rey) 02 113,319 (Emeli Sande) 03 75,538 (Gary Barlow) 04 74,401 (Military Wives)
September 19, 201213 yr Author Midweek Charts: Killers Battle to head albums countdown Source: MW Paul Willams The Killers look like heading for a fourth straight No 1 on the UK artist albums chart as Example tries to overtake The Scipt for a third singles chart-topper. The Las Vegas band's newly-issued Vertigo/Mercury set Battle Born surpassed 50,000 sales up to the end of business on Tuesday, giving it a 20% lead over the rest of the market, according to the Official Charts Company. A closer battle is playing out at the top of the singles market with The Script featuring will.i.am's Epic/Phonogenic single Hall Of Fame commanding a lead of little more than 2,000 sales in the week so far. In hot pursuit is Ministry of Sound act Example who has previously topped the singles chart with Chaged The Way You Kiss Me and Stay Awake and shows up as a new entry at 2 in the latest midweeks with Say Nothing. Behind The Killers on the artist albums midweeks is Pink with her brand new RCA set The Truth About Love. Her last album, 2008's Funhouse, give her a first UK albums chart-topper. Marking the 25th anniversary of its release, an overhauled Bad by Michael Jackson surfaces in sixth position. The original Epic album spent five weeks at No 1 in 1987 and is one of the 10 biggest-selling albums of all time in the UK. Following her chart-topping single Call Me Maybe, Interscope/Polydor's Carlt Rae Jepsen will register on the albums chart for the first time this weekend. Kiss is at 8 in the week to date, while the rest of the Top 10 so far takes in The Script's Number 3 (down 2-3), Young Turks/XL's XX with Coexist (1-4), Virgin act Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events (5-5), Columbia signing Bob Dylan's Tempest (3-7), Coldplay's Parlophone-issued Mylo Xyloto (4-9) and 679/Atlantic act Plan B's Ill Manors - OST (10-10). Brooklyn band Grizzly Bear and Seattle's Band Of Horses are both on course for new UK chart peaks. Grizzly Bear's new Warp set Shields is new at 11 on the latest Sales Flashes and will beat their current peak of 24 achieved by 2009's Veckatimest, while Band Of Horses' Columbia set Mirage Rock is 13. Their last album Infinite Arms reached 21 in 2010. A very busy week for new releases will also result in new albums from the following acts debuting inside or around the Top 40 on Sunday: Earache's Rival Sones, Aggressive Music's Richie Sambora, 100 Percent Records' Skunk Anansie, Ear Music's Marillion, Sony's Ben Folds Five, Interscope/Polydor's Nelly Furtado, Hassle's We Are The Ocean and Roadrunner's Down. Dappy's third solo single looks like giving him a third consecutive Top 10 hit with the AATW/Island-issued Good Intentions registering as a new entry at 8 on the midweeks. Meanwhile, Positiva/Virgin act David Guetta's She Wolf (Falling To Pieces) featuring Sia rises 14-10 with an 85% sales lift and his Play Hard track featuring Ne-Yo and Akon lifts 22-20 with weekly sales doubling. There is a 41% gain for Emeli Sande's Virgin-issued Our Version of Events, the song she performed at the Olympics closing ceremony. As a result it climbs 19-12 in the midweeks. Motown/Mercury act Ne-Yo's Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love) is static at 3 in the week so far, while Pink's RCA track Blow Me (One Last Kiss) rises 5-4 and Mercury artist Taylor Swift's We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together improves 7-5. Having debuted at 2 last Sunay, Xenomania/RCA act Amelia Lily's You Bring Me Joy now drops to 6 and Syco's Little Mix fall 407 with Wings. There is a one-place fall to 9 for Interscope/Republic's Owl City/Carly Rae Jepsen pairing Good Time. Sales of Island's Korean-language pop hit Gangnam Style by PSY are up 285% on the week to lift it 37-16, while Parlophone act Conor Maynard's Turn Around moves 38-24 with weekly sales more than doubling. =================================================== Wednesday Update Top 40 Only Source: Radio 1/OCC/MW Top 40 Singles 1 The Script (2k ahead) 2 Example 3 Ne-Yo 4 Pink 5 Taylor Swift 6-10 8 Dappy 10 David Guetta/Sia 11-20 12 Emeli Sande 16 PSY 20 David Guetta/Ne-Yo Akon 21-30 22 Otto Knows 24 Conor Maynard/Ne-Yo 27 Jessica Wright 31-40 32 Justin Bieber/Big Sean 36 Alex Clare http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/update/singles/print http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/e...r-1-single-1599 =================================================== Top 40 Albums 1 Killers (50k) 2 Pink (40k) 3 The Script 4 The xx 5 Emeli Sande 6-10 6 Michael Jackson 8 Carly Rae Jepsen 11-20 11 Grizzly Bear 13 Band Of Horses 14 Ed Sheran 19 Rival Sons 21-30 22 Alt-J 25 Riche Sambora 26 Skunk Anansie 27 Marillion 29 Mumford & Sons 31-40 31 Ben Folds Five 34 Nelly Furtado 38 We Are The Ocean 39 Down http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/update/albums/print http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/c...r-1-album-1598/
September 19, 201213 yr I'd say so (for 2012 at least) 2012's highest selling #1s: 01 116,745 (Lana Del Rey) 02 113,319 (Emeli Sande) 03 75,538 (Gary Barlow) 04 74,401 (Military Wives) How lovely it is to see Gary Barlow so high on that list. When Garys last album bombed in spectaular style and the whole media backlash i never thought i would see Gary Barlow back in the chart.
September 19, 201213 yr Author YAY for TK!!!!!! Did you have to quote the whole post, just the necessary TK would have done. Sorry had to delete your post due to some re-edit work in my original post, two conflicting updates that do not match.
September 19, 201213 yr Interesting to note The XX falling below The Script this week, shows it WAS a fanbase no1 and #3 could sell more in the coming months!!
September 19, 201213 yr I'd say so (for 2012 at least) 2012's highest selling #1s: 01 116,745 (Lana Del Rey) 02 113,319 (Emeli Sande) 03 75,538 (Gary Barlow) 04 74,401 (Military Wives) Hopefully this list will be torn apart in the coming months!!
September 19, 201213 yr As I thought an easy killers victory, I'd expect that gap to widen a the week progresses.
September 19, 201213 yr Well off with my predictions this week! :P Never thought that Michael Jackson’s Bad would return to the Top 10 due to the 25 edition. Not good to see The Vaccines and Two Door Cinema Club already out of the Top 10 and Rita Ora continuing to fall, hopefully they will all have new singles getting airplay soon. Didn’t think Joe McElderry would fall that much; I guess it could still return to the Top 20 if it gets a “weekend effect”. Hope Noel Gallagher returns to the Top 40 for Sunday. Great to see Emeli Sande’s Read All About It (Part III) climbing 7 places – definitely a climber this time on Sunday. Gangnam Style in the Top 20! :cheer: And yes, I did dance! :P
September 19, 201213 yr The Killers at number 1 :yahoo: and with 50,000 sales already done it is looking like they will open with quiet decent sales which is refreshing. Richie Sambora off to a refreshing start also at #25 but i suspect a little bit like Mel C last week it will drop in every update through out the week and end up in a low top 50 position on Sunday. Really did not think Michael Jackson would be in the Top 10 and i am flabbergasted that Nelly Furtadio is so low, looks likely now this will not be a successful era for Nelly Furtado unless she has a stomper of a single lined up. Disappointing decrease for Joe McElderry but i suspect he will hold that position or higher through the week and possibly claim back a few positions, however, the poor Pet Shop Boys look set for a humiliating fall coompletly out of the top 40 or even top 50 at the rate they are falling, i take no joy in this at all as i am a fan, but now more than ever i have realised outside their very loyal hardcore fanbase no seems to care for them anymore. September 19, 201213 yr Hate that it has to be a 'battle'. I'm just loving the top 2. The Killers and Pink is the most refreshing top 2 in the albums all year.
