'Little Talks' was a bit more than a minor top 40 hit :P It wasn't exactly super massive but #12 peak and 10+ weeks in the top 40 isn't what I'd call 'minor' especially for an act of their kind.

Ok, a moderate top 40 hit then.. though I doubt Woodkid would manage that sadly. :(

Anyway "Little Talks" has only been as big as Scarlet's January 1995 hit "Independent Love Song" though, and not many people would call that a big hit (or remember it even).

The video has started to get played now and Dappy is promoting it on his Twitter and official website so hopefully it will hang around for a bit before its gets properly promoted as a single release.

Oh that's good. It might prevent it free-falling and then having to re-climb.

For what it's worth, I probably don't remember the vast majority of 1995 hits.

Surely confirmation that the majority of the Buzzjack populace holds nothing but contempt for boybands is the fact that no one's really put any JLS and One Direction comparisons across.

"Beat Again" and "What Makes You Beautiful" would have probably sold about the same in the same sales climate (although the latter is probably more ubiquitous, but this looks like being more of a curse than a gift), yet "Everybody In Love" trounced "Gotta Be You" and in terms of debut album sales there's no competition even if you take sales climate into account.

"The Club Is Alive" is rightfully panned on here but "Love You More" did rather decently and all of their singles to that point had a markedly different sound, which is more than you can say for 1D.

Basically, JLS are still the standard for X Factor groups. Little Mix may go on to surpass them but One Direction certainly don't look like doing so.

'Independent Love Song'! What a gem
How on Earth is it shocking? I don't find it that shocking when massive stars like 50 Cent, Britney Spears, Ciara, Christina Aguilera, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, etc. (I could basically name every artist I liked pre-2007 to be quite honest ) have had singles miss the top 100 recently, and here you are saying a JLS single missing the top 10 is "shocking"? It happens to everybody.

Is it a bad thing if the general public don't care about someone? 99% of the public probably don't care about Disclosure or Naughty Boy (unfortunately). It's their own fault that they are missing out on great songs and artists.

Do I really have to go into detail why I think it's "shocking" why SUPERSTARS like BRITNEY SPEARS can BARELY sell 100k of a new album? How on EARTH you can't possibly seem to grasp why people would be rather shocked at that fact is so far beyond me, but okay then!

This isn't a new problem for JLS. I can't remember the last time they had a massive hit. It still isn't happening. Nobody seems to care about them. They're irrelevant. TIME TO PACK UP AND MOVE ON.

And of COURSE it's a bad thing if the GP don't give a f*** If you can't maintain a healthy fan base, then obviously your career in the music industry (mainstream, chart hit wise) isn't going to be a healthy one.

I'd argue that the fact that they're a boyband gives them an entirely different set of expectations than most X Factor acts but yes, they might be totes flopping and stuff now but they've definitely been a succesful band overall.

Indeed they are in the final part of their lifecycle - greatest hits next november then gone and maybe a return in 2021!!

I wish someone would sing independent love song on x factor or something and get it selling again, its one of my favorite tracks from the 90's and i still listen to it alot to this day.

Yeah. JLS's positions in the year-end charts so far have been:

Beat Again - #16

Everybody in Love - #42

One Shot - #61

The Club is Alive - #87

Love You More - #66

Eyes Wide Shut - #71

She Makes Me Wanna - #52

Take a Chance on Me - #147

This constant obsession some people have about JLS supposedly not really having big hits and not selling well outside their first week is quite frankly a total MYTH. The numbers are right there, they've had many genuinely big hits. There's nothing wrong with having a big fanbase.

Look, I don't understand why you hate JLS so much, but they're doing just fine, and better than a LOT of other artists are, and I don't see you telling them to "pack up" or whatever. They're also a lot more relevent than many of the artists in the charts (again, I refer you to Naughty Boy and Disclosure, and again, why is it bad to be irrelevent anyway?) Are you one of those people that doesn't like anything that isn't successful in the charts?

Loved that song - I remember for its time it had quite a lengthy chart run, I also love the Bandera's track 'This Is Your Life' which was released a few years before the Scarlet track

Shove YTD positions in my face all you want, but how many of them are huge sellers? How many of them songs are going to be remembered? It's all tosh.

What do you keep harping on about Naughty Boy and Disclosure for? Both new artists without established fan bases, and in the long run, both of their songs are probably going to outsell JLS's latest, soooo...you're looking kinda silly right now.

Well one of my post played artists of the year is Jessie Ware, so that question you asked is automatically invalid

760 Coldplay - Hurts like Heaven

758 Pogues - Fairytale of New York

541 Mariah Carey - All I want for Christmas is You

 19 - The Lumineers - Ho Hey

Didn't realise this has crept into the Top 20 - Will hopefully be a decent sized hit

 37 - Woodkid - Run Boy Run

 70 - Steps - Light Up The World

Already? I've hardly seen any festive adverts on the TV yet. We haven't even got past Halloween!

That or Not So Manic Now by Dubstar, I always think of the two in tandem for some reason.

How many of them are huge sellers?! Um, by default, to make the year-end top 100 a song has to sell well, and JLS have done it many times, they have many big sellers. Did you not get the point of me posting that?

Naughty Boy and Disclosure are "irrelevent", which is why I keep mentioning them, to show it's not a bad thing. And I don't care that their songs will outsell JLS's, I love them all, so that's FANTASTIC!!!

Jessie Ware is good! So, do you think she should give up because she hasn't had any top 20 hits? I certainly don't. And most of the general public don't care about her (i.e. she's irrelevent). That's not a bad thing. It's their loss, not hers. And she's having a lot of success at the moment (although not as much as JLS).

Au Seve back up to #50! :o I can't believe this might actually become a chart hit!

The difference being Jessie Ware is a new, fresh artist who doesn't make music aimed at the top 40, whereas JLS have came from the X Factor, have had many number 1s in the past. So if Hottest Girl In The World misses the top 5 then that is a MASSIVE FLOP for JLS. I wouldn't say JLS are irrelevant but they are definately losing relevance and I think they should give up soon before they start to flop even harder. A greatest hits in 2013 would be a good career choice for them, there's no point releasing one in 2016 when no-one will care about them.

The main problem is that it is very difficult for a boyband to regain popularity once it starts sliding. Potentially Westlife who transitioned from the sreaming teens market to the granny market, but that was clearly a very concious choice at a point in their career - I can't see JLS doing this.

Not really... they're on their 4th album as I've said before how many Girls Aloud lead singles missed the top spot before they assumed Godlike status in their absent years.

I'd imagine next year with Astion on GTD etc they'll have a bit of gap in everything. As shown with other pop acts after a continious run a break can be good

No one's saying JLS aren't successful, but when you look at their recent chart performance, the fact that there are two boybands that are pretty much eclipsing them now and the need to constantly move forward in the industry as fast as possible and not flog a dead horse with boybands in particular, it clearly isn't looking bright for them. There's also nothing to assume that they can't turn this around, which is why I said wait to see how this single & album performs, (also it needs to be said that right after 'Sexy...' for Girls Aloud they had a reasonably big hit with Call The Shots and had a number 1 earlier that year, so I don't think it was looking as worrying for them, particularly as it was around the time Cheryl was confirmed as an X Factor judge )
