October 21, 201214 yr I really really hope Calvin has held on to #1 but I have a bad feeling SHM pushed him down to #2 YET AGAIN at the last second :drama: Aside from that hoping to see Everything Everything still in the top 40 (they climbed from Wednesday to Friday although dropped out of the iTunes top 40 since so it'll be close), Disclosure maybe top 15 and Tyler James still top 30.
October 21, 201214 yr I hope Everything Everything make the top 40. I don't like the band, and that song is incredibly annoying, but gosh darn it, they need to be top 40.
October 21, 201214 yr 2011 1- WE FOUND LOVE- Rihanna Ft Calvin Harris (92,689) 2- LIGHTNING- The Wanted (71,451) - One of their worst singles in their very short career. 3- WHEREVER YOU WILL GO- Charlene Soraia (66,674) 4- MOVES LIKE JAGGER- Maroon 5 Ft Christina Aguilera (59,275) 5- STEREO HEARTS- Gym Class Heroes Ft Adam Levine (54,600)* 6- MR KNOW IT ALL- Kelly Clarkson (47,910) 7- JAR OF HEARTS- Christina Perri (45,600)* 8- SEXY AND I KNOW IT- LMFAO (41,700)* 9- VIDEO GAMES- Lana Del Rey (40,541) 10- WITHOUT YOU- David Guetta Ft Usher (34,300)* Overall a decent top ten though! Only two songs that I'd rate below 7/10 (The Wanted and LMFAO). 2007 1- ABOUT YOU NOW- Sugababes (40,738) 2- VALERIE- Mark Ronson Ft Amy Winehouse (33,162) 3- GIMME MORE- Britney Spears (17,608) - Not my favourite from the Blackout album, but it's a modern pop classic and all the better for Brit! 4- GOODBYE MR A- Hoosiers (16,962) 6- APOLOGIZE- Timbaland Ft One Republic (14,181) 7- HAPPY ENDING- Mika (12,570) 10- NO U HANG UP/ IF THAT’S OK WITH YOU- Shayne Ward (12,505) 2002 1- DILEMMA- Nelly & Kelly Rowland (207,906) 2- THE KETCHUP SONG (ASEREJE)- Las Ketchup (75,000) 3- NU FLOW- Big Brovaz (60,000) 4- COMPLICATED- Avril Lavigne(25,000)* 1997 1- SPICE UP YOUR LIFE- Spice Girls (321,000) 2- BARBIE GIRL- Aqua (183,000) 3- CANDLE IN THE WIND 97/ SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT- Elton John (144,000) 8- TUBTHUMPING- Chumbawamba (43,000)* HEY.
October 21, 201214 yr 1997 1- SPICE UP YOUR LIFE- Spice Girls (321,000) 2- BARBIE GIRL- Aqua (183,000) What a Top 2   Epic sales for both too!
October 21, 201214 yr I hope Everything Everything make the top 40. I don't like the band, and that song is incredibly annoying, but gosh darn it, they need to be top 40. Can see it just missing out - The song dropped quite quickly over the weekend on iTunes, Would be a shame to see to see them charting just outside at #42 or something though!
October 21, 201214 yr Can't believe I'm saying this but I think 2007 wins for once in the retro...not the best selection of charts all round, 2011/2002/1997 all pale in comparison to their respective summers but I like almost all the '07 songs even though it's usually the weakest year out the four. Some good dance tracks from Dario G and Sash in '97 though. The top two in 1997 was perhaps my least favourite top two ever at the time :P As a nine year old I already hated the Spice Girls and then Aqua's song was even worse! I appreciate them a bit more now but the me of fifteen years ago would be horrified... Edited October 21, 201214 yr by BillyH
October 21, 201214 yr Author What a Top 2   Epic sales for both too! I honesty think that thanks to Elton a large proportion of the population who perhaps hadn't bought a single in years went into record shops for the first time in a while and kept going back subsequently which might provide a part explanation for the sales boom 97-00 B-)

Quick, somebody phone the Daily Express!

Also im not so sure that someone that had not bought CD singles for years would suddenly rush out and buy Aqua and the Spice Girls on the back of an Elton John release

October 21, 201214 yr Author Not so sure i agree - When the Elton John single came out alot of retailers that didnt stock CD singles at the time had cardboard displays in their shops just stocking that CD single only. Also im not so sure that someone that had not bought CD singles for years would suddenly rush out and buy Aqua and the Spice Girls on the back of an Elton John release  well that's true but whilst they were in a shop they could have picked up other singles then. For a single to sell 4 million in a couple of months that's a significant appeal outside the standard "cd buyer". I don't say it was solely responsible but I think it jaulted a few people into singles again that might have thought their CD single buying days were over but hey ho it's just my ramblings.... Actually my mother bought it and also mysteriously has "Torn" and "Never Ever" so I'm using this as proof! :D
