Midweek Charts: Labrinth leading singles

Source: MW

by Paul Willams

An X Factor performance looks like delivering Labrinth a first UK No 1 single as Taylor Swift readies her first albums chart-topper.

Labrinth's Syco-issued Beneath Your Beautiful, which features Emeli Sande, has moved 85-1 on the midweeks with a lead at this stage of around 14,000 units, according to the Official Charts Company. His album Electronic Earth climbs 110-12 in the artist albums midweeks with weekly sales up 766%.

The track's rapid commercial improvement follows him performing it on the X Factor results show last Sunday, while the ITV1 programme is also helping RCA act and one-time X Factor runners-up JLS with their newly-released single Hottest Girl In The World. It presently registers as a new entry at 3 in the midweeks, a place below Virgin act Swedish House Mafia whose Don't You Worry Child featuring John Martin holds its position of 2 secured last weekend.

As well as featuring on Labrinth's new hit, Sande also crops up with Naughty Boy on the Virgin-issued Wonder. She performed this on Jonathan Ross's ITV1 chat show last Saturday and it shows up as a new entry at 10 on the midweeks, while weekly sales of her Virgin album Our Version Of Events have nearly tripled to move it 9-2. Ahead of it is Red, the brand new album from Mercury's Taylor Swift who appears poised to top the UK artist albums chart for the first time. Her current UK peak is 5, achieved by Fearless in 2008.

Global Talent/Polydor's Lawson follow a third Top 10 single achieved last week with their first album Chapman Square new at 3 in the latest midweeks where it is joined in the Top 10 by brand new albums from Dappy and Stone Sour with former Genesis man Steve Hackett just outside.

Dappy's debut AATW/Island album Bad Intentions is at 6, while Iowa rock band Stone Sour's Roadrunner set Houses Of Hold & Bones - Part 1 is 7. It is their fourth album and follows their first UK Top 10 hit Audio Secrecy, which reached No 6 in 2010. Hackett is 11 with the Inside Out-issued Genesis Revisted II, which could become his highest-charting solo album yet in the UK. His current peak is 16, achieved by Highly Strung in 1982.

Having debuted at No 1 last Sunday, Jake Bugg's self-titled Mercury debut is down to 4 in the new chart week, while Gentlemen Of The Road/Island's Mumford & Sons fall 2-5 with Babel. Syco act Leona Lewis's third album Glassheart drops 3-8 as Muse's Helium 3/Warner Bros-issued The 2nd Law falls 4-9 and Rebecca Ferguson's RCA debut Heaven 5-10.

Folk singer Kate Rusby is on course to hit a new UK chart peak with her Island debut 20 new at 15 in the week to date. Her current UK chart peak is Awkward Annie, which reached 32 in 2007. Also set to enter in or around the Top 40 on Sunday are new albums from DMG TV's Daniel O'Donnell and Deaf Havana via Easy Life/BMG Rights and a return for Peter Gabriel's 1986 set So on Real World.

After debuting at No 1 on the singles chart last weekend, the Columbia pairing of Calvin Harris and Florence Welch with Sweet Nothing is down to 4 in the week so far, while Def Jam/Mercury's Rihanna drops 4-5 with Diamonds. Island's PSY loses three places to appear at No 6 with Gangnam Style, while Adele's XL-issued Bond theme Skyfall drops 5-7 in the week the movie hits UK screens. Above Naughty Boy and Emeli Sande. A&M/Octone/Polydor's Maroon 5 hold at 8 with One More Night and Taylor Swift's We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together slips 7-9.

Virgin-signed south London band Bastille are heading for their first Top 75 hit with Flaws new at 14 in the midweeks, while Decca act The Lumineers rise 45-23 with Ho Hey following its use in a TV ad.

Midweek Charts update: Red hot Swift heading for No 1

Source: MW

by Paul Willams

Taylor Swift is on course to achieve her first No 1 album in the UK with Red outselling its nearest rival by more than two copies to one.

The newly-issued Mercury album has sold 50,000 copies in the week so far, according to the Official Charts Company, with two days of trading on Friday and Saturday to go. In the US it is expected to open with more than 1 million sales, matching the achievement of its 2010 predecessor Speak Now, which debuted at No 1 on the Billboard 200 with 1,047,000 copies sold.

In the UK Speak Now peaked at 6, while her highest-charting album in the market to date is Fearless, which reached No 5 in 2008.

Red's nearest rival in the artist albums market so far this week is Virgin act Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events, which has sold fewer than half the copies of Swift's album. However, Sande's album has already achieved its highest weekly sales this week in nine weeks with week-on-week sales up 270% following her performance last Saturday on Jonathan Ross's ITV1 chat show.

Lawson's Global Talent/Polydor debut Chapman Square is showing up as a new entry at 3 in the week to date, while Mercury act Jake Bugg's self-titled debut is down to 4 having started at 1 last Sunday. Mumford & Sons' Gentlemen Of The Road/Island set Babel drops 2-5.

There are three other brand new albums among the Top 10 sellers behind Red and Chapman Square, courtesy of AATW/Island's Dappy, Roadrunner/Warner's Stone Sour and GMG TV's Daniel O'Donnell.

Syco's Labrinth is set for his first UK No 1 single this weekend with his X Factor appearance last Sunday helping to lift Beneath Your Beautiful featuring Emeli Sande 85-1 in the midweeks. Virgin act Swedish House Mafia's Don't You Worry Child featuring John Martin holds at 2 and the Columbia-handled Sweet Nothing by Calvin Harris and Florence Welch drops 1-3. Def Jam/Mercury act Rihanna holds at 4 with Diamonds in the week to date, while RCA act JLS arrive at 5 with Hottest Girl In the World. Alongside Beneath Your Beautiful, Emeli Sande features on another new arrival to the midweek Top 10 with the Virgin-issued Wonder by Naughty Boy on which she is the vocalist new at 10.

It would be great if Swedish House Mafia was the highest selling album of the week, I'll have a look what their previous album sold in its first week (debuted at #2 I believe).

EDIT: Music Week didn't give first week sales for Until One. :(

Looking forward to seeing Taylor Swifts sales this week - could be decent!

A very close battle in the singles chart this week for the #1, at the moment Labrinth & Emeli Sande have a good lead over SHM on iTunes but is it enough. Personally I love a good ballad at #1 and the track already charted at #85 last Sunday, which will give the track a big climb to #1. Also Emeli Sande could be in contention to re-take the #1 album as well, Emeli Sande seems to be on top form at the moment, can she deny a #1 album for Taylor Swift.

Don't forget Twitter is your friend for midweeks for today

Oh joy, Ed- Sheeran is back.

I don't like the new Lab/Emilie track either, so hopefully SHM can retake the top spot.

Hopefully Lab/emeli can take it - i would say Taylor should be the no1 album Emeli sales should be decent though - maybe 30k - she'll def be the years biggest album by december - maybe selling 1.3 million or so. Hope Electronic Earth gets a good sales boost from the performance too - its a decent album!!

At least SHM can't be a threat to Taylor. :)

I'll be very disappointed at anything under 50k!

She already *is* the year's biggest album, of course.

Bit of a useless tweet but I'm guessing it's Top 5 -

@DawBell

We've just seen the midweeks & @LawsonOfficial's chart position for #ChapmanSquare is rather exciting... but we can't say anything more yet!

I meant by years end, alot can change - especially with The Kilelrs etc playing on the final of the X Factor in December. ;)

yeah that would be terrible - i wouldnt be surprised to see Taylor sell nearly 150k either as her momentum has built in recent weeks!

Not even Adele could sell that amount the Killers would need to take over at YTD #1, *that* fast! :P

They Will do a "coldplay" last year... they sold like 400K+ in 2 and a half weeks after the X factor... I'm Loving BB by tham so I'm glad.

id love tyler james to still be top 40 but i think he might be just outside.

weirdly as well steps will probably have their first non top 20 single by the end of the week!

They will hopefully do the same as coldplay after last years final - what did they do on xmas week incidentally?

Also who knows who else will play the final?!
