And it keeps the relevant charity (be it this one or any other major charity single) in the news which in turn may also lead to increased other donations

Wow, some really misjudged and ill-informed comments in here. Why do people release these types of songs for charity anyway? Promotion. How many have you would have known about the charity had their not been PR through a record released? Not very many probably. It happens with all charity singles, it's the same when you see celebrities on gameshows doing things for charities. They might win £1000 but chances are people who are fans of the celebrities will support the charities they support.

I don't like the song personally, but I'm passionate about the cause. People shouldn't like or buy a record just because it is for charity, but there are a lot of ill-informed comments in here from some people who clearly have no idea about what they're talking about.

So in 2 hours they've gained just under 0.10 of James.

I'm supporting The Justice Collective for #1 (more because I hate James' single than because I like theirs) but kind of pleased to see them not storming ahead either, at least there's an actual battle and not just another year of the Christmas #1 winning by miles and miles.

PSY still at #11 and #29, he should get a 14th week top 10 and then after that gift cards and New Year parties will push him up again. He looks like having a very good chance of matching or even beating Gotye's 21st century top 10 longevity record!

"Scream & Shout" not actually doing that badly this week, was further behind James Arthur at this point last week.

Much as I'm all for supporting charity, I think I'd much rather see James Arthur hold on for a second week at number-one. It'd be a real testament for the show/charity for the track to out-do the competition and claim the official Christmas number-one; as is undoubtedly going to hang around for longer (and therefore the bigger contributor to charity).

Thrilled to see Alex Day away from the T10 - looks like it'll only be two new entries to the top 10 this week then, with "I Knew You Were Trouble" possibly creaping in - rather odd to see such a small amount of new top 10 entries on a Christmas chart week.

Going to be an interesting chart battle - Sold a grand total of 9 physicals of TJC at work and 40+ for James Arthur today although there will be huge regional boosts in sales for TJC track - At last looks like we could have the first chart battle for Christmas #1 since RATM/Joe McElderry

Is anyone else shocked the amazing try by the amazing p!nk is still in the top 20 on itunes?

It was bearly getting recognised before her xfactor performance.

There's lots of new releases this week, it's just that none of them stand any chance of being successful! :P

Im hoping James Arthur can fend the Justice Collective off and strangely the physicals could play big part in who will be number 1. I think overall James can raise more money for charity and like others said stay around for longer whereas the Justive Collective will drop like a stone after 3 weeks. Im hoping though its a good battle just like Joe and Rage against the machine as it makes it far more exciting. Overall though im more excited about the album chart as there is a few albums in the chart i wont to sell well so il be watching that more closely.

I think Michael Buble will have it the bag again for Christmas Number One. He has strong competition from Olly Murs though, then there's Rihanna, Bruno Mars, One Direction, possibly Rod Stewart or even Emeli Sande who have a chance.

I think the album number 1 is between Olly and Buble but the others mentioned could also do it, Emeli Sande can never be ruled out. If it was my decision alone it would be Kylie!!! but on a serious note i would like it to be Olly as Buble did it last year with more or less the same album plus has huge sales under his belt, career wise it would be more important to Olly.
Christmas charts have gone from one of the most exciting charts of the year to the most boring. I honestly do not care. I used to loved it but now it's my few weeks of the year where I feel I can take a break from the charts and come back when the (non) fuss has died down.

It's so sad to see so many people slating the Justice Collective single (as a song). I find it lovely and touching. (It helps that the song they've covered is one of the most beautiful songs ever written imo) But I think it's definitely one of the better charity singles and it does the whole artists/stars getting together for a charity single better than most others that we've been given. I think they've got which artists singing, what line spot on for this. It's stunning! Mel C's and Robbie's voices go so well together!

EDIT: It'd also be nice for AaronTrademark to witness his Bev reach that all important top spot! As well as Mel C getting another number 1 to her name I suppose :P

Mel C deserves another hit just for sheer persistence

I hated it at first, but I've really grown to love it now! I love Beverley Knight's part (at least I think it's her), who is then followed by Paloma Faith, Eliza Doolittle, then a little later, Ren Harvieu. Still can't stand the original though and, as bad as the Hillsborough incident was, that it's a bit of a pointless cause now.
