April 14, 201313 yr I think Radio 1 have handled the situation the best they could, whilst vowing to stay impartial on politics. At least they played a clip of it rather than censoring it completely.
April 14, 201313 yr I always find Newsbeat to be so Newsround-esque. Anyway, it's done and dusted and now and I hope we can all move on. It has certainly been a weird week for people genuinely interested in the chart.
April 14, 201313 yr NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! i WANTED THE WITCH IS DEAD TO BE NUMBER 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 14, 201313 yr I think they handled that extremely well really, the best they could without just playing it in full. At least the report wasn't biased. 205 users reading this topic right now!
April 14, 201313 yr Haha that was ridiculous it'll drop like a brick this week most likely even with the funeral, least it got the charts alot of attention!!
April 14, 201313 yr Rudimental :music: Sounds very Summery, great to see it at #1 in the iTunes chart. How have Capital FM handled the Ding Dong situation? Anyone been listening to the Big Top 40?
April 14, 201313 yr ~smoothly played R1~ I'm not quite used to that radio edit of Need U (100%), since i've been hearing the full version for so long
April 14, 201313 yr Duke Dumont song has really grown on me but it won't be No1 due to this crap that sounds like it's one of those songs that you get blasting out of car radios because it's so "urban" shame cause Need U (100%) isn't actually bad for a chart song
April 14, 201313 yr That was about as patronising as "news report" as I think I've ever heard. Do they think listeners to the chart show are in primary school? Double standards of the highest nature
April 14, 201313 yr I think they handled it well-at least it spared us from Jameela's usual nonsensical garble..............
April 14, 201313 yr I think they did well with the situation. If they played the song like they do with normal songs, it would've made a lot of people angry, and if they completely ignored it, it would've made a lot of people angry. So a compromise was the best thing to do.
April 14, 201313 yr It's not a compromise if the pro Thatcher song got played in full, the more I think about it the more i think it should have been played.People can chose to be upset by it because the Daily Mail decided to be outraged and make their readership aware of it!!
April 14, 201313 yr Radio 1 are really pushing that Rudimental song, it was the last to played on the chart show then about a minute later they played it again back-to-back on Dan & Phil.

April 14, 201313 yr I'll start by saying that Radio 1 had a very tough time of it, and I thought agreeing to play a clip was a sensible option, but the clip should have been a little bit longer. I was waiting for them to play a slightly longer clip after the introduction. Instead they hid a few seconds within it all. Newsbeat is always patronising. They dumb stuff down to the point that it is often pointless and they shouldn't have bothered. I felt they caved into the Mail/Telegraph a bit too much, and the whole thing sounded as if they'd timed how much of it was dedicated to saying something positive, and how much was negative (including the clip) and tried to make them equal. I know the BBC need to remain neutral, but when Elton John's Diana song was in the charts, we didn't have to sit through a debate on how some people don't like the monarchy/aristocracy or thought she wasn't all that etc.
April 14, 201313 yr Radio 1 are really pushing that Rudimental song, it was the last to played on the chart show then about a minute later they played it again back-to-back on Dan & Phil. Maybe to ensure that it will go to number one instead of a possible chance of Ding! Dong getting there after her funeral.
April 14, 201313 yr I think Radio 1 have handled the situation the best they could, whilst vowing to stay impartial on politics. At least they played a clip of it rather than censoring it completely. They didn't stay impartial, they played the pro- campaign song in full earlier. Also, why did the news report talk to me like I was 5?
April 14, 201313 yr Author They didn't stay impartial, they played the pro- campaign song in full earlier. I suspect it makes its point with less "directness" for want of a better word. :D
