Posted August 2, 201311 yr Say those where the biggest hits has been the 4th or more single in, and/or being several years after original release... Lana Del Rey is the obvious current one from the first category, and Nickelback's 'All The Right Reasons' / Rockstar one from the latter...
August 2, 201311 yr Nickelback - Rockstar is the obvious one. *edit - I skim read the opening post and missed the mention of it. Surprising when you think about it, it's from an album that flopped big time two years previously. Edited August 2, 201311 yr by Silver Rocket
August 2, 201311 yr Labrinth/Emeli Sande 'Beneath Your Beautiful The sales of "Earthquake" would disagree, but I see your point (a #1 and 600k+ track as the sixth single). "Spectrum" is a prime example though. Ben Howard's "Only Love" is another (#7, 2012). It followed four singles of peaks 97-46-58-70; though was aided by The BRITs.
August 2, 201311 yr Ben Howard's "Only Love" is another (#7, 2012). It followed four singles of peaks 97-46-58-70; though was aided by The BRITs. :drama: This post hurts my inner chart geek. - 'Only Love' peaked at #9 - It was this year, not last year - The #46 peak of 'Keep Your Head Up' was on a re-release after 'Only Love' peaked, it previously got to #74 - The #97 and #70 in that history are the same song ('The Wolves') ~just gotta get that off my chest~
August 2, 201311 yr 'Spectrum' always gets mentioned in these sorts of threads but it wasn't even the album version of the song that went to #1, it was a brand new Calvin Harris remix. Same with Lana's current song, it's a brand new remix. It's hardly as impressive as Labrinth's situation.
August 2, 201311 yr They're still valid examples of big hits released a long time after their parent albums whether or not they're 'impressive'.
August 2, 201311 yr 'Filthy/Gorgeous' by Scissor Sisters provided them with their highest charting single in January 2005 (peaked at #5) at that point and was the fifth single from the album.
August 2, 201311 yr At the time 'Just Like A Pill' was the 3rd single from P!nk's second album and had HUGE success. Similarly 'Just Give Me A Reason' has trounced every other single of hers for this era as the 3rd single. But yeah I'm not including the remixes of Florence or Lana in this, personally. But whatever :P
August 2, 201311 yr Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) and The One That Got Away of course ~ 5th and 6th singles from Katy Perry's album that did well!
August 2, 201311 yr ABBA : I have A Dream was the FIFTH single they released that year ( and fourth from the Voulez-Vous album) and their biggest selling hit of that year (xmas 1979 No 2) Madonna : La Isla Bonita was the FIFTH single released from True Blue album and was a number 1. (as was 2 others from the album..PDP and TB)
August 2, 201311 yr Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) and The One That Got Away of course ~ 5th and 6th singles from Katy Perry's album that did well! They were the two lowest charting singles from the album
August 2, 201311 yr David Guetta - Titanium, wasn't that like the 3rd or 4th single from the album and the first to get to No. 1?
August 2, 201311 yr REM - Everybody Hurts - 4th single off Automatic for the People, the only one to go Top 10 and it spent 5 weeks in the Top 10. Radiohead - Street Spirit - 4th or 5th single off The Bends. Only one to go top 10, #5.
August 2, 201311 yr They were the two lowest charting singles from the album  Yeah but the former was top 10 and the latter top 20 which is still impressive :) I didn't realise we were counting singles that had done better than their predecessors, oops -leaves awkwardly-
August 2, 201311 yr What about Michael Jackson? 'Thriller' was the 7th single from the album of the same name and it was just as big, if not bigger, than the singles before it (and the album is/was the best selling album of all time - so I'm sure sales of the album were huge before the release). The same can be said for 'Smooth Criminal' from the album, 'Bad'. It was also the 7th single from that album. These are just guesses as I'm not sure what his sales are for each song or whatever.
August 2, 201311 yr Born To Make You Happy was the 4th single from Britneys debut album, and went to #01 doing considerably better than Sometimes and You Drive Me Crazy.
