Retro sales courtesy of MW*denotes an estimate thanks to Gezza

Well Hello there 'Jackers. It's that time of the week again- as per usual NO SPOILERS please

Kind of baffling how much Stardust and Savage Garden sold in their first weeks! I was a little shocked when I found out the former's first weekly sale earlier this year.

Hopefully Applause charts at #4 today for my prediction for it to become correct! :D

Edited August 18, 201313 yr by ~ * T O M G * ~

I'm really hoping that we have 5 new entries in the top 10 singles today! Realistically I'm sure at least one out of Ray Foxx and The Wanted will stall at #11/12 though. Hope White Lies can at least hold onto top 5 in the albums too.

1- NO MATTER WHAT- Boyzone (176,000)

2- MUSIC SOUNDS BETTER WITH YOU- Stardust (172,500)

So close! Bad times for Stardust :(

I bet the Vaccines are just going to miss the top 40 :(

for Blue ^_^

A year ago to the day, we had Elbow and Kate Bush in the top 10. I doubt we'll have anywhere near that level of brilliance in the top 10 again any time soon.

*cough* Matt Cardle and Sean Paul are going to be in next week's top 10 most likely! How much more brilliant can you get?

Retro Top 10 - 18th August

2012

6- RUNNING UP THAT HILL- Kate Bush (33,664)

LEGEND.

I like Ellie's song more than the last two #1s, but it's far from being her best song. Hope to see Drake top 15!

2003

4- COMPLETE- Jaimeson (25,000)

What a tune!

2008

1- I KISSED A GIRL- Katy Perry (44,500)

4- LOVE IS NOISE- The Verve (24,126) You know the charts were slow when even a single by The Verve could spend five weeks in the top ten!

5- DANCE WIV ME- Dizzee Rascal Ft Calvin Harris (19,504)

6- DISTURBIA- Rihanna (18,937)

8- NO AIR- Jordin Sparks Ft Chris Brown (15,900)*

2003

1- BREATHE- Blu Cantrell Ft Sean Paul (44,000)

2- PRETTY GREEN EYES- Ultrabeat (32,500) One of the only big dance hits of 2003, a horrendous year for the genre. I prefer Feelin' Fine

4- COMPLETE- Jaimeson (25,000) Better than True, way more melodic.

6- FOUR MINUTE WARNING- Mark Owen (17,000)*

8- FINEST DREAMS- Richard X Ft Kelis (14,000)*

1998

1- NO MATTER WHAT- Boyzone (176,000)

2- MUSIC SOUNDS BETTER WITH YOU- Stardust (172,500) This has hugely grown on me over the years, I used to hate it!

3- TO THE MOON AND BACK- Savage Garden (93,000)* This >>>> Truly Madly Deeply, such a great song which uses one of my favourite chord progressions

5- MYSTERIOUS TIMES- Sash! Featuring Tina Cousins (49,000)*

6- THE AIR THAT I BREATHE- Simply Red (48,000)* Some pleasant MOR, not that I've listened to it in years

7- EVERYTHING’S GONNA BE ALRIGHT- Sweetbox (45,000)*

8- VIVA FOREVER- Spice Girls (40,000)*

9- GHETTO SUPASTAR- Pras Michel/ ODB/ Mya (31,000)*

I think we will have 5 new entries in the top 10, Ray Foxx was as high as number 6 on iTunes and The Wanted only fell out the top 10 on Friday so I think they will have done enough to hold on!

This weeks chart is going to be excellent with at least 7 new entries should help shake things up a bit!

Can't believe this time last year the Olympics were on and that chart in 2012 had all the Closing ceremony tracks re-entering! And Porter Robinson getting to number 9, should have been top 5 but this has to be one of my favourite dance tracks of all time!

4- LOVE IS NOISE- The Verve (24,126) You know the charts were slow when even a single by The Verve could spend five weeks in the top ten!

This is one of the earliest things I remember about the charts, The Verve having a weirdly big comeback. I really like 'Love Is Noise' but I feel like I'm the only one in that camp

1- NO MATTER WHAT- Boyzone (176,000)

2- MUSIC SOUNDS BETTER WITH YOU- Stardust (172,500)

So close! Bad times for Stardust :(

I was gutted at the time. Stardust was so massive in the club culture at the time that it just felt like the type of track that should have been a #1.

A year ago to the day, we had Elbow and Kate Bush in the top 10. I doubt we'll have anywhere near that level of brilliance in the top 10 again any time soon.

Elbow finally getting a top 10 with their best release...can't believe it took 3/4 years to become a hit but I'm so glad it went top 5!! Apart from Trey Songz and Rita Ora, that top 10 from 2012 was one of the best I've seen for a long time!!

A year ago to the day, we had Elbow and Kate Bush in the top 10. I doubt we'll have anywhere near that level of brilliance in the top 10 again any time soon.

Hard to beat yes, but I think (though it may be too early to say) we may have matched it in the albums chart with a certain inspiring and soon-to-be-Mercury nominated debut from a certain Richard and Adam. Matching the 3 weeks spent at number 1 by Justin Timberlake, Gary Barlow and Amy Winehouse as the longest run at the top of the UK album chart since Adele in 2011.

I wish Kate Bush could have random top 10 re-entries more often.

Can't believe that 1998 was 15 years ago.
