Same. The first time I heard it was a few months ago on Rinse FM, and I didn't even think about where it would chart. It wasn't something I even considered for such a song.

The orchestral-sounding chorus is what sold Firework the most I think. It sounded so epic the first time I heard it. It also benefits from when it was released, had it been a hit in, say, 2008 when sales were lower, it wouldn't be close to a million, and probably would've sold less than I Kissed a Girl and Hot N Cold.

 

I think the lyric "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag" really struck a chord with a lot of people :lol:

 

Also Firework has the annual sales boost of Bonfire Night in this country

Yay get that boost Get Lucky. I haven't seen the latest X Factor shows yet but great to see them using that (not so yay at them re-using Listen and Read All About It part 37263558384)

 

Two reasons why I would like X Factor to go away, we don't need these back in the chart...no matter how much I love Emeli!!

 

'Listen' got as high as #12. :o :o :o I really hope it manages to stick around long enough to chart officially in the top 40. I know it has been sung a lot on XF since 2008 but people are making out that it's been re-entering the top 40 after every performance, which it hasn't. I think the last time it re-entered the top 40 was when Beyonce/Alexandra got it to #8.

Weird how all of the big songs this year have been HUGE. No way would Roar have opened with 200k a year or two ago, likewise Wake Me Up etc...

 

Yay for Applause going back to the top five and showing some longevity in the top ten!

Yes, it's done very well considering it's initial 5-9 drop. Stabilising nicely (rebounding really) and a new overall peak position isn't completely out of the question if it keeps this up.

I'm pretty sure 'Listen' will be top 40 now, doubt it'll plummet so hard that its advantage of being top 15 / combined top 10 (?) for the highest sales day and then at least 1 more day will be completely wasted.
