October 27, 201312 yr I'm listening to that Fatman Scoop #1 for the first time. Can anyone attest to its popularity in '03? It's not bad but seems a bit strange for a chart topper. A mixture of a low sales environment and a music video that was heavily played on the free music video channels at the time, The Hits and TMF.

October 27, 201312 yr I guess the sight of a veteran in her 50s hitting the top with a dance song and selling well over 1.5 million copies in the process isn't exactly what anybody might have expected but I guess it was one of those songs that had mass crossover appeal. I mean, as an 11 year old boy at the time it's the song that had appealed more to me than any other up to that point in my life! I'd still rank it in my all time top 50 now. And a veteran in his 50s hitting the top with a dance song could happen again next week (although I doubt 'Eat Sleep Rave Repeat' will quite sell 1.5 million copies somehow (and #1 is far from guaranteed anyway)).
October 27, 201312 yr I don't think Believe was played on Radio 1 at the time - though in all honesty I can't remember.
October 27, 201312 yr I'm not ashamed to admit that I still love Believe!!!! So cheesy but makes me smile  Love Beneath Your Beautiful , I was so surprised to see this get to number 1 even with an X Factor performance
October 27, 201312 yr I had a random retro typed up relating to 1998 so I could make it Cher-related, but I forgot that 15 years ago would already be featured! So here instead... Week Ending : 03/11/1990 1 (3) Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody 2 (1) Beautiful South - A Little Time 3 (8) Berlin - Take My Breath Away 4 (2) Maria McKee - Show Me Heaven 5 (7) Whitney Houston - I'm Your Baby Tonight 6 (14) Belinda Carlisle - (We Want) The Same Thing 7 (5) Happy Mondays - Kinky Afro 8 (4) Status Quo - The Anniversary Waltz - Part One 9 (NE) Kylie Minogue - Step Back In Time 10 (6) Bobby Vinton - Blue Velvet We go back 23 years to 1990 to find a top 10 dominated by songs from movies. "Unchained Melody" started life as a film theme (from the 1955 film "Unchained"), and has been a hit several times over, with no fewer than 4 of those versions reaching number one (and a fifth reaching number 1 on the Record Mirror chart). Nowadays, the Righteous Brothers version is the most well known but it only made number 14 back in 1965 when it was a follow up to their own number one, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling". Fast forward 25 years and a scene from the film "Ghost" that involved a potter's wheel and bingo, it leaps to number one. The song it displaced at number 1, "A Little Time" isn't from a film as far as I know, but numbers 3 and 4 are. Berlin's song was subtitled "Love Theme From Top Gun" so there's no mistaking which film it was taken from (it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song), while Maria McKee is someone who I feel has had nowhere near the success she deserved, both as a member of Lone Justice and solo. Anyway, "Show Me Heaven" was from the soundtrack of the film "Days Of Thunder" and had been a number one for 4 weeks before a mathematically pleasing drop down the top 10 of 1-2-4-8. Whitney Houston's first solo single for two years was at it's number 5 peak, while the anthemic "(We Want) The Same Thing" was also at it's peak position one slot lower. "Madchester" had passed it's peak by November 1990, but there was still enough legs in to give the Happy Mondays their second and last Top 10 single, while Status Quo's answer to Jive Bunny, The Anniversary Waltz Part 1 was at 9. Part 2 was to follow a few weeks later and performed compartively badly (number 16 to Part 1's number 2). Kylie's 11th hit, "Step Back In Time" equalled her lowest peak to date (number 4), while at the foot of the top 10 we're back to the movies again with Bobby Vinton's re-released "Blue Velvet" (it had been a US number one in 1963 without making the UK Charts at all) which was the inspiration of the David Lynch film of the same name. Other new entries to the Top 75 that week 15 (NE) The Cure - Close To Me (Remix) 16 (NE) Kim Appleby - Don't Worry 19 (NE) Robert Palmer & UB40 - I'll Be Your Baby Tonight 21 (NE) Black Box - Fantasy 33 (NE) Northside - My Rising Star 39 (RE) La's - There She Goes 40 (NE) Blue Pearl - Little Brother 41 (NE) Del Amitri - Spit In The Rain 44 (NE) Jimmy Somerville - To Love Somebody 53 (NE) Public Enemy - Can't Do Nuttin' For Ya Man 55 (NE) EMF - Unbelievable 59 (NE) After 7 - Can't Stop 61 (NE) New Model Army - Purity 62 (NE) Rhythmatic - Frequency 67 (RE) Oleta Adams - Rhythm Of Life 75 (NE) Paris Angels - Scope
October 27, 201312 yr And a veteran in his 50s hitting the top with a dance song could happen again next week (although I doubt 'Eat Sleep Rave Repeat' will quite sell 1.5 million copies somehow (and #1 is far from guaranteed anyway)). Sadly I can't see Fatboy Slim going to number 1 now, which is a shame as I thought this was going to be huge I just wish Radio 1 got behind this more and there should have been a video sooner but for him to go top 2/3 12 years after his last top 10 will still be a great achievement!

October 27, 201312 yr 40 (from 30) Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop [D] http://a4.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Music2/v4/72/79/b3/7279b365-b73e-0d51-8e42-35996d88a81f/886444045131.170x170-75.jpg Chart Run: 1-3-6-5-7-8-14-15-20-20-30-40 [12 wks] Release date: 04-08-2013 Format: download only single Label: RCA Records Label Sales: 300k+ Video here: KzKLd9p4x3w Biography Miley Cyrus became an overnight sensation in 2006 as the star of Hannah Montana, a popular Disney Channel television series whose success allowed Cyrus to launch her own recording career several years later. Overnight popularity wasn't a new thing for the Cyrus family; Miley's father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, went from obscurity to stardom in a few short months in 1992, when "Achy Breaky Heart" became a crossover hit. The success of "Achy Breaky Heart" was hardly the only memorable event for Billy Ray that year, though, as he and his wife welcomed their daughter Destiny Hope Cyrus into the world on November 23, 1992. Destiny's cheerful disposition as a child earned her the nickname Smiley, which stuck when it was shortened to Miley. Miley's career as a professional actress began in 2003, when she appeared alongside her father in an episode of the television series Doc. The same year, she landed a small role in the Tim Burton film Big Fish. The budding actress had also developed an interest in writing songs and learning how to sing, and in 2005, she landed a role that allowed her to put her skills in acting and music to work. Miley was cast in the title role of Hannah Montana, in which she played a teenage girl leading a double life: by day, she's Miley Stewart, an ordinary kid dealing with school, friends, siblings, and all the other foibles of life for a 14-year-old, while at night she dons a wig and becomes Hannah Montana, a multi-platinum pop star whose career is guided by her dad, songwriter Robby Stewart. Miley's friends don't know she's also Hannah, however, and keeping this a secret is no simple matter. After debuting in March 2006, Hannah Montana became an immediate success with young viewers and led to the release of a soundtrack CD in October, featuring Miley singing eight songs from the show along with five related tracks (including a duet with her father, Billy Ray, on "I Learned from You"). That fall, Miley hit the road as the opening act for another Disney-spawned pop act, the Cheetah Girls. A reissue of the Hannah Montana album followed in March 2007, not long after the show's theme song, "The Best of Both Worlds," was released as a single. A second Hannah Montana record, Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus, was released in summer 2007. That fall, Cyrus embarked on the Best of Both Worlds tour, which stretched into early 2008 and was edited into The Best of Both Worlds Concert film, which was released that spring. By then, Cyrus was busy recording Breakout, her first full-fledged album as herself, as well as shooting Hannah Montana: The Movie, which was slated for release the following year. Breakout arrived in summer 2008. It topped the Billboard charts and quickly went platinum, paving the way for an even more successful year in 2009. Hannah Montana: The Movie was released that March and peaked at number one, while the soundtrack's lead single — a country-pop ballad called "The Climb" — became one of the year's most omnipresent songs, giving Miley her first multi-platinum hit. A short album, The Time of Our Lives, arrived several months later and yielded another hit with "Party in the U.S.A.," which charted inside the Billboard Top Ten for 16 weeks. Cyrus performed the song on the "Wonder World Tour," her first international tour, and also found time to film another movie, The Last Song, which hit theaters in 2010. With acting assuming such a large role in her life, Cyrus announced her decision to take a hiatus from music — but not before the release of her third album, Can't Be Tamed, which appeared that summer. ~ Mark Deming & Andrew Leahey, Rovi / iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): 2007 43 The Best Of Both Worlds (as Hannah Montana) -OST- 2008 11 See You Again -1- 2008 25 7 Things -1- 2009 16 Fly On The Wall -2- 2009 11 The Climb -OST- 2009 18 Hoedown Throwdown -OST- 2009 11 Party In The U.S.A. -1- 2010 13 Can't Be Tamed -2- 2013 34 Fall Down (will.i.am Feat.
