October 27, 201312 yr 1998 had an amazing top 5. We may never have a gay friendly top 2 like that again. I remember the incident that involved public toilets and George Michael
October 27, 201312 yr The Sweetest Thing sold 111,000 in it's first week? For a song that was first released as a b-side in the late 80s, that's pretty impressive.

October 27, 201312 yr I absolutely hated "Thank U" back then, so overplayed. Its more tolerable these days, but still think the singles from her debut album piss all over it
October 27, 201312 yr Retro faves as I'm FINALLY not at work on a Sunday; 2012 1- BENEATH YOUR BEAUTIFUL- Labrinth Ft Emeli Sande (107,775) Heading a fantastic top ten actually, JLS aside. This was always my favourite track by FAR on Labrinth's album and I'm glad it unexpectedly found such huge success after the X Factor performance 2- DON’T YOU WORRY CHILD- Swedish House Mafia Ft John Martin (86,198) 3- SWEET NOTHING- Calvin Harris Ft Florence Welch (56,546) 4- DIAMONDS- Rihanna (53,121) 5- GANGNAM STYLE- PSY (51,126) 7- SKYFALL- Adele (44,725) 8- ONE MORE NIGHT- Maroon 5 (37,004) 9- WE ARE NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER- Taylor Swift (33,737) 10- WONDER- Naughty Boy Ft Emeli Sande (28,534) 2008 1- THE PROMISE- Girls Aloud (77,110) Remains my favourite GA single, even if others hate it, it was such an on trend and perfect comeback that helped Call The Shots elevate their career up another level 2- SO WHAT- Pink (37,986) 3- INFINITY 2008- Guru Josh Project (29,369) 4- SEX ON FIRE- Kings Of Leon (28,913) 6- UP- Saturdays (22,539) 7- HOT N COLD- Katy Perry (21,617) 9- RAINDROPS (ENCORE UNE FOIS)- Sash Ft Stunt (20,490) Random but good top ten return, shame his relevance returned for only one single... 10- THE WINNERS SONG- Geraldine McQueen (17,634) 2003 3- TURN ME ON- Kevin Lyttle (44,000)* My favourite song in a rather meh top ten, all are either good or crap, but nothing I love 4- WHERE IS THE LOVE- Black Eyed Peas (39,000)* 5- HOLE IN THE HEAD- Sugababes (35,000)* 7- SUPERSTAR- Jamelia (23,000)* 10- MAYBE- Emma Bunton (12,000)* 1998 1- BELIEVE- Cher (167,751) A rather veteran top 4 here wasn't it, they must have had an average age into their mid 40s a the time! This is SO good, the song that made me start listening to the charts every week in fact! 2- OUTSIDE- George Michael (116,000) 3- SWEETEST THING- U2 (111,000) 4- I JUST WANNA BE LOVED- Culture Club (71,000) 5- THANK YOU- Alanis Morrissette (59,000) 6- GYM AND TONIC- Spacedust (51,000)* So crap, one of the worst #1's ever and certainly the worst of 1998! 7- I DON’T WANNA MISS A THING- Aerosmith (46,000)* 8- A LITTLE BIT OF LOVIN- Kele Le Roc (43,000)* Lovely song, sadly forgotten 9- MORE THAN A WOMAN- 911 (40,000)*

October 27, 201312 yr All new top 5 in 1998 - quite an unusual occurrence at the time. I am still baffled by the success of Believe even now.
October 27, 201312 yr I'm listening to that Fatman Scoop #1 for the first time. Can anyone attest to its popularity in '03? It's not bad but seems a bit strange for a chart topper.
October 27, 201312 yr All new top 5 in 1998 - quite an unusual occurrence at the time. I am still baffled by the success of Believe even now. Did Radio 1 playlist the song at the time, or did they only play it during the Chart Show?
October 27, 201312 yr I hope you're all ready for Lorde's domination *.* Could be potential for around 10-11 new entries today! Although quite a lot of those were in the 31-40 section on Friday so a few could have dropped out.
October 27, 201312 yr All new top 5 in 1998 - quite an unusual occurrence at the time. I am still baffled by the success of Believe even now. Was it seen as a surprising #1 at the time, I started listening to the charts a few weeks into its reign. The very reason for doing so is so that I had a guaranteed way to hear that song every week as I had no stereo until that Xmas, just a radio, so couldn't buy the single! I guess the sight of a veteran in her 50s hitting the top with a dance song and selling well over 1.5 million copies in the process isn't exactly what anybody might have expected but I guess it was one of those songs that had mass crossover appeal. I mean, as an 11 year old boy at the time it's the song that had appealed more to me than any other up to that point in my life! I'd still rank it in my all time top 50 now.
