Or perhaps the new entries aren't normally as dire as they are today?

Not really. Storm Queen/Little Mix/Katy B are all BRILLIANT as well.

The Storm Queen track sounds like the Black Legend track in places which went to #1 in June 2000
Yeah cus otherwise it would be smashing :teresa:

Team Little Mix today :cheer: Britney to be as low as possible, please.

I wonder if Celine Dion can do anything chart wise next week as she's performing on Jonathan Ross, X Factor & Strictly Come Dancing.
The Storm Queen song is, as someone mentioned earlier, a commercial example of what music is most popular with young people right now: house. If you went to any house party, "pre drinks" or cooler club nights this weekend, guaranteed that most of the music played would be house.

Agree. As a uni student myself, this is the type of preferred music. I like all genres from Hip Hop, cheesy 90s, 70s-80s, club, house, etc... but as you said, go to any pre drinks where I am or house party, the two most popular genres would be house and 80s/90s dance floor filler anthems.

426. Katy B - I Like You

This is the B-side to '5 AM' - what's the rule for B-sides and chart eligibility?

They chart if they sell enough copies! This clearly isn't going to.

For those thinking the new Storm Queen song sounds quite retro, you might also be aware of this slightly older track MK also had a hand in remixing to make it a hit:

(and yep, basis for the 2009 Pitbull song too)

Yeh but THAT is a modern classic. This current thing is more like a non-#1.

I thought they were sometimes combined with the single? There's been a few occasions where B-sides have appeared on the Tuesday Chart Update then disappeared the following day.

Surely she must go Top 40 if she's performing on those 3 shows? I presume and hope it's 'Loved Me Back to Life' she's performing.

Ah, no - that was a late physical era phenomenon whereby the physical sales would be added twice to the main version (the A-side) by mistake AND then also attributed to the B-side sales which would then make the Tuesday midweeks look a bit ridiculous. It was always corrected by the Wednesday but doesn't seem to have happened recently, I can only guess because physical sales are in the hundreds thesedays and would make little/no impact.

Exactly. The most recent example of a B Side charting is the Arctic Monkeys 'Stop The World, I Wanna Get Off With You'. Got into the Top 75 just before AM came out.

Katy B  #27. Keep Climbing Katy! :D

Okay thanks. It has happened in the past year or two though as I'm sure a Coldplay and JLS B-side have made an appearance in the Tuesday Update.

Well I'm sure 1D's b-side to What Makes You Beautiful (called Na Na Na) was high enough on iTunes to make the top 100 *at least* all week when it first came out, yet oddly it didn't chart at all. The b-sides to Gotta Be You and One Thing both charted though...

Just found this: http://www.itunescharts.net/uk/artists/mus...songs/na-na-na/ So yes it was top 100 all week, and didn't chart at all. How odd.

The OCC never seem to be able to make up their mind on if B-Sides should chart or not. Some do and some don't with no apparent underlying reason. And then there was the weird case of JLS' 'Umbrella' which blatantly sold enough for top 40 but showed up as a new entry at #107.

Yay Storm Queen and Little Mix! Don't much care for the (couple of) other new releases this week but Katy B doing well is always good to see.

I'm having a major *meh* reaction to Look Right Through, if I'm honest. I see all the dance songs that came out this year that either just went T10 or just missed (Sonnentanz, Afterglow, So Good To Me, Mozart's House, Turn Me Out all spring to mind), and I'm just baffled how Look Right Through is a likely #1, especially ahead of The Monster and Royals.
