Biography

Touted as the British answer to Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber, Brighton-born Conor Maynard also rose to prominence through cover versions posted on YouTube. Born in 1992, Maynard had been singing since a young age, but it wasn’t until 2008 that he posted his first video — a cover of Lee Carr’s “Breathe” — on the video sharing site. Throughout 2009 and 2010, Maynard continued posting cover versions of artists such as Chris Brown, Taio Cruz, and Rihanna, while amassing a considerable following from users subscribing to his YouTube channel. Maynard’s cover of American R&B artist Ne-Yo’s “Beautiful Monster” caught the attention of the singer/songwriter, prompting Ne-Yo to make contact with the rising star.

At the end of 2011, MTV U.K. hosted their Brand New for 2012 competition, which enabled fans to vote for their favorite up-and-coming artists. Joined by Lana Del Rey, Delilah, and Lianne La Havas, among others in the competition, Maynard went on to win, picking up 45-percent of the votes. A month later he announced that he’d signed a deal with EMI subsidiary Parlophone, and in April 2012, he released his first single, Can’t Say No. Maynard’s debut album, Contrast, followed three months later and saw him working with a whole host of producers and guest vocalists, including Pharrell Williams, the Invisible Men, Ne-Yo, and Rita Ora. - iTunes

Aww gutted about the Wanted, it's their best in AGES  (since Glad You Came)
I didn't even know they had released 5 singles already. I thought "Walks Like Rihanna" was the official lead?

They put 'I Found You' on, and lumped 'Chasing The Sun' onto the tracklist too.

'R U Crazy' officially a certified longevity queen by Maynard standards.

I was thinking earlier, this is his first real genuine hit with longevity. It's fair to say it'll be his biggest hit yet.

I'm pretty sure Turn Around had a good chart run too? ^_^

Agreed. I only really care for 'Glad You Came', 'Lose My Mind' (their absolute BEST) and 'Show Me Love (America)' from them now. 'Walks Like Rihanna' and 'Warzone' are pretty good too, though.

Hope 'Youth' can hold up throughout the rest of the year at least with the continued advert exposure.

I agree, I love Show Me Love (America), but it got too much hate :(

Didn't Right Here peak at #14?
"Youth" would be even better without so much echo on some of her vocals

Biography

Responsible for bringing the flower-power hip-hop sound of the late '80s back into the charts, Brighton duo Rizzle Kicks are one of the few successful male acts to emerge from the BRIT School that spawned the likes of Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Leona Lewis. Childhood friends Jordan "Rizzle" Stevens and Harley "Sylvester" Alexander-Sule first started making music together in 2008 on the Minor Breaches of Discipline mixtape, which saw the pair rapping over samples of tracks by Lily Allen, Gorillaz, and Arctic Monkeys. Compared to the likes of De La Soul and Dream Warriors, their laid-back production and humorous non-confrontational rhymes earned them a deal with Universal Records, and in 2011 they released their debut single, "Prophet (Better Watch It)," followed by "Down with the Trumpets," which eventually reached number eight in the U.K. charts. Following a guest appearance on X-Factor runner-up Olly Murs' chart-topping single "Heart Skips a Beat," support slots with Professor Green, the Streets, and Dizzee Rascal, and a remix of Ed Sheeran's "You Need Me, I Don't Need You," they were invited by Take That's Gary Barlow to appear in his Children in Need charity supergroup alongside the likes of N-Dubz, Wretch 32, and Ms. Dynamite. Following three MOBO nominations for Best Newcomer and U.K. Hip-Hop/Grime Act and Video, their debut album, Stereo Typical, was released at the end of 2011. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi / iTunes
