This isn't directed at anyone but a lot of people seem to moan about low sales, and when we actually do get high sales, they moan about the artist getting them. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

That seems perfectly logical to me... :P Presumably if the artist was one that said people like then they wouldn't moan about it.

Yes. Emeli every time.

Reported.

Well beggars can't be choosers. If you want high sales, you can't really moan when we do get them. I'm no fan of Eminem at all but it was good that his album sold a fair bit in week 1 even in this market.

This too. Sales are so low at the moment, even the Xmas boom doesn't seem to be helping that much. Lot of big releases have under-performed.

They're a massive part of our popular culture, and they're a complete one-off worldwide phenomena. I don't even think their very own team knows how they've managed it. People just buy in to brands, and that's happened with One Direction. The X Factor performance will have helped, but they're never out of the media and they're promoting the album hard. From last year I think their profile has significantly rose too. Not seen all the reviews for the album either, but the few reviews I've seen have been quite positive.

Album Midweeks -

Lady GaGa #24

Jessie J #38

The Wanted #70

Single Midweeks -

Breach - Everything You Never Had #7

Quick Twitter search produced the above - Sorry can't link from my phone

I am going to use my #MysticRoo hat and predict a #1 for One Direction on the album chart. DEFINITE.

If it doesn't get to #1 I'm willing to delete the chart forum.

Gary Barlow is certainly putting up a good fight. Multiple record signings, radio interviews and television appearances this week. With him appearing on the Royal Variety Show this year and a concert featuring him being shown over the New Year on television his sales should stay consistent over Xmas.
I'm doubting the accuracy of the 1D sales too, I fail to see how they could go from selling 155k in a week to selling 115k in a day  It's not as if Take Me Home significantly outsold its predecessor or anything and being honest I would have expected ~150k total for the week so I'm doubtful.

Amazing sales if true though, happy for them.

Same here not that downloads are as important at this time of year but the 2 versions of 1D album aren't even top 3 together like they would be if it was the fastest seller of the year. Like Eminem did a few weeks back!

Well perhaps its the fact that despite their so called popularity, a lot of people don't actually like one direction neither and can see through their manufactured, over-hyped career.

It is usually the same with these HUGE artists (cf Gaga) - they polarise opinions so for an awful lot of people it's either love or hate.

You seem to be acting as if they're Hitler or something. You're entitled to your own opinion but high sales are high sales, regardless of the artist, and it's good to see them finally happening, properly. Could be the highest #1 tally since before 2012 (the highest then was 177,696 in the final week, not sure before that).

I don't think so...like you said yourself...I'm entitled to my own opinion without you making ridiculous remarks...

If they pass 200k, it will be the highest sales since Xmas week 2011 (when Michael Buble sold 300k+ and Amy Winehouse sold over 200k).

I'm allowed to question your opinion and have a debate, I'm not disallowing you from having your opinion.

:o That's brilliant! I can see them passing 200k but even just the highest tally of the year would be amazing.

Well lets hope and pray that One Direction don't break that all important sales barrier because that would really be a major tragedy and embarrassment for UK record industry, considering they are an act who can't sing and have very little proper talent.

For someone on a mature music forum you are quite pathetic. Opinions are opinions but comments like that are pathetic.

From what I observe what appears to be pathetic and lacking of maturity on this forum is that people get too personal about other people's comments. Having an opinion that 1D have little talent etc is not pathetic but a valid observation and comment that I and many others will agree with. After all they have been moulded and preened by Simon Cowells pop puppet manufacturing inc. Hardly the height of musical credibility for the UK music industry.
