I can actually see One Direction getting the best selling album of the year by Christmas - wouldn't exactly be difficult to do. I won't even complain so long as somebody beats Emeli Sande!

Hopefully it keeps up & we might have a million-seller by years end after all?

Whos performing before xmas week on tv? I heard Boyzone have a show on friday 14/12. Who has the xmas tv special on the sunday night before xmas chart week thats the album that flies off the shelves on xmas week!

Well it's at least good to have such great sales for the #1 album even if it is by one of the worst acts possible.
Wow, wasn't expecting anything like those types of sales for One Direction (to the extent that I'm slightly sceptical if it's accurate--is the only source still a Daily Star reporter?). It really goes against the grain for a teen boyband to still be increasing in popularity in their third era, they usually peak in either their first or second and then trail off quite quickly as the teenage girls who were their original fans grow out of them.

It didn't stop Backstreet Boys to grow and have 3rd album 'Millennium' as their best selling album.

In the 1st Midweek UK Album Chart for this week (26th) 'The Nations Favourite Elvis Songs' album is hanging on in at No.10 with sales of 6,736 units giving a current total sale of 84,955 units.

It's all change in the Top 10 so far this week. One Direction will be this week's new No.1 and No.2 will be Gary Barlow with Robbie Williams down to No.3 at present. Celine Dion currently hanging on at No.9. Other top ten entries likely from Olly Murs, Boyzone, Susan Boyle and Bastille.

Whatever you think of One Direction, those sales are incredible, I'd totally lost hope of an album shifting 100k+ in a week this year so to do that in a day is amazing. I hope it can somehow become the best selling album of the year, if just to prevent an album from last year holding the title (Though I can't see it selling enough to get there anyway).

Huge sales for 1D and its actually a good album with lots of potential hits though many places are sold out already which might affect sales for next few days. Really good sales for Gary Barlow too. Promotion with those meerkats during X Factor and Corrie seems to be working and he is doing record signings each day too.

Surprised as an established artist he's doing signings. It's usually just done by new artists and those with a huge teen following. Still I suppose he'll never have a better chance to have a high selling solo album with his profile sky high at the moment.

Wasn't expecting such impressive sales from One Direction. They're not showing any signs of decline just yet. Fun fact: their one day total is nearly 8 times bigger than The Wanted's entire first week. :o
Queen Dido blatantly should be no.1 in a perfect world with her Greatest Hits. Got the deluxe edition today and it's heavenly.
Really gutted Dido isn't in the top 10. And really annoying that they advertised it on the advert as £7.99 in HMV and when I went in there they're selling it for £9.99 with the deluxe at £12.99 whereas the deluxe is £9.99 on Amazon!
Anyone know the chart position for Dido? Thanks!

I don't think so, they've only revealed top 10 entries. We should hopefully find out tomorrow (unless it misses top 40 completely which would be criminal)

Me neither, but then again decline strikes fast and hard. As any mix-matched and manufactured band they will have a short lifespan. Even more so since they mostly appeal to young teenagers and all of them are already adults+. A trasnition of 1D to the grown-up plane looks completely unlikely (impossible imo).

I am somehow happy now that there shoud be at least Emeli 700k-ish high on the ytd albums list. One more reason to love her

Doesn't feel that long ago that Take That sold over 250k in their first day

I'm doubting the accuracy of the 1D sales too, I fail to see how they could go from selling 155k in a week to selling 115k in a day  It's not as if Take Me Home significantly outsold its predecessor or anything and being honest I would have expected ~150k total for the week so I'm doubtful.

Amazing sales if true though, happy for them.

Gary Barlow's new album was being sold for £1.49 on amazon yesterday as a download- the deal was posted on Hotdeals UK and people even used the £1 you get for joining amazon cloudplayer to get it for less. Do they discount those sales during that period until the price was fixed by amazon, otherwise its a budget cd.

It was an error on Amazon's part, They changed the price to £4.99 late yesterday afternoon but it was a welcome mistake! And I'm sure it helped Gary get some additional sales from people that may not have bought it otherwise

I seriously hope it doesn't become the biggest selling album of the year. There are many more deserving acts who are worthy of that title!!

Well if it's One Direction or Emeli Sandé, I know which one I'd choose...
Yes. Emeli every time.
This isn't directed at anyone but a lot of people seem to moan about low sales, and when we actually do get high sales, they moan about the artist getting them. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
