That's wrong little mix chart for move is 3-5-8
I was talking about 'Salute' :P

And @Defaze Yeah. I think 'DNA' was actually released a year ago this week actually. I give up on comparing sales because of how awful they are/have been in general this year.

Wonder if Gary could sell 100,000 in his first week? It would be amazing for him after what happened with 12 months!

It is looking very possible based on the sales so far. I wonder what 12 months 11 days opened with to chart at number 35.

This is what I just don't understand. I thought I had finally got my head around the whole instant grat thing, but this doesn't make sense now.

So, for example, I paid 99p for Do What U Want and Venus, but didn't preorder the album. Now, I can use the complete my album function surely but those two purchases of the individual songs did not count towards sales as the tracks had been deemed ineligible.

Isn't it the case that it's only after the album is released that this applies? So, for 1D for example, the sales of those tracks last week will just be lost forever, like Gaga's promo tracks. So, if the complete my album is used now, but the tracks had been purchased last week, the sale will rightly only count towards the album chart?

But if I was so inclined to go on and buy Midnight Memories (the song) tonight but then used complete my album next week, would that count as a sale for both album and single?

God, I'm confusing myself now  but it really doesn't make any sense at all.

The issue this week is that there is a very strong suspicion that 1D fans are buying most of the album as individual tracks and then completing the album. That means that each track counts towards the singles chart and the album counts towards the albums chart. That is making a mockery of the charts and I hope the OCC change the rules. In my opinion, if somebody buys one or more tracks and then completes the album in the same week, the sale of the album should count but the individual tracks should not.

Thought Calvin had sold more by the iTunes leads this week but Lily is only behind by 16k so with all the top 5 catching rapidly when combined anyone could be no1 this week with Lily having the best momentum day by day. That said Calvin should still hit the top spot but with only around 80k sales!

Happy for Mcfly to get another top 10 ....Fingers crossed for another Top 3 :)

They should have done some more promotion for the single. There has been next to no promotion so far and none due.

Perhaps there will be something in the later weeks (xmas TV and stuff)

The Killers are dropping a lot faster than i had hoped on he album chart, i know having very successful studio albums has probably gone against them on this release i still hoped it would be top 20 as shot at the night has done better than i thought. Hopefully they stabilize in he coming weeks and gain from the Christmas sales.

Seeing Ellie's Halcyon at #26 got me thinking how different this 'era' was looking this time last year when the album was actually lower down the chart (iirc it only had 4 or 5 weeks in the top 40 at first). The handling of Halcyon really is a masterclass in the recovery of an initially under-performing album. And it went platinum prior to the re-release anyway so it's not as if it relied heavily on Burn to move towards a decent total. It's a great album so I'm glad to see it selling so well, even though I'm not a fan of re-releases in general.

Also, good to see Olly at #4- was wondering, are there (m)any other cases of artists leading re-releases with a single that was on the original track-listing? I don't recall ever seeing that before. Doesn't really say a lot about the quality of the new songs. I wonder what the rationale was there.

It wasn't the lead single, but Alexandra Burke released 'The Silence' after the re-release of 'Overcome'.

I'm pretty sure it's more just an iTunes error than anything else, but regardless, both You & I and Don't Forget Where You Belong were downloaded separately and whether it's erroneous or not, it should still count, no? It's the same as Diana/Midnight Memories/Strong except their sales came before the release of the album and therefore couldn't chart.

Mini Thursday Update

All I'm going to say the top 5 albums are the same as yesterday, plus another 24k on top of yesterday for OneD, in other words keep it zipped.

Gary's sales take away 30 from 100 leaves you with :P and add a couple of noughts.

Also top 5 singles are the same as yesterday, Calvin basically half a century in cricket terms, #2, #3, #4, are tight as a zipper, literally peanuts between them. Bit of a gap between #1 and #2.

Ha.... just realised what I've done there  never mind. Just add a couple of noughts ^_^

1D should be on for around 200K then in total - impressive!

Calvin has only sold 50 copies? :P

Martin, could you please drop a hint on whether Dido has increased in the albums chart?

Well, let's say Dido's sales are flying with the north winds but look to be scattering the ashes by noon. Not sure I can make it any more obvious without getting in trouble but I imagine you'll be able to figure it out

Tracks which are genuinely cherry-picked should indeed count. However, if people buy five or six tracks and then complete the album all in the same week, I don't think the sales of the individual tracks should count.

I don't really see any evidence that this is actually occurring?

I believe there's a limit to how many songs you can own before completing the album anyway.

That's why I said originally that there was a suspicion that this is going on. I have no firm evidence but it seems strange that individual tracks from this album are doing particularly well and that the album is also selling in large numbers.

I'm pretty sure that nothing is going on of that sort, it'd be pretty large scale I think to get this many sales. I'm sure it's just an iTunes error of some sort.
Great to see the album top 2 both selling bucketloads - Gary has done much better than I thought!
Never thought I would root for 1D but I hope "Story of my life" can be top 2 this Sunday. It's such a nice track.
