I think the 18th is probably when it premiered. Last time some stations banned it for being awful.

They were wrong.

I didn't buy the CD back in the day (I was 14 and penniless), but I did download the single shortly (both the 1984 version with 2004 version were 79p as a bundle iirc) after I set up iTunes for the first time. Great single, my favourite version of the song!

You may be right, charity singles just don't seem to shift downloads.

You were saying? *pokes Gareth Malone* :heehee:

Band Aid 30 probably won't stick around at the top of the chart long enough to be Christmas #1 but I think it should safely be a mega seller, the one reliable charity single this year I'd say. *prepares to be quotes if it bombs*

Was Band Aid 20 really that critically panned? It was far more successful than Band Aid II (which I know is not the same thing as having critical acclaim but you'd think if it was hated that much it wouldn't have done so well). I've always thought it was a very good version, not quite the original but certainly a hell of a lot better than II.

Yeh it's like 1.49 on iTunes. The cd version I bought in 2004 had both versions on it too - I was more interested in the original being on cd single lol. Also have the band aid 2 vinyl single :)

I assume that more of the line up is still to come, as that doesn't feel anywhere near as long as the previous line ups. No big surprises on the line up, didn't see Sinead O' Connor & Underworld coming, if the latter are involved in production like they were for the 2012 Olympics songs, it should sound amazing!

It will be interesting to see how well it does, it obviously sounds like a number 1 even without hearing it but all these charity songs haven't really adapted well to the new download climate - although this one is a bit of a 'one off' and does have a lot of current artists so that should help it in theory. 17th feels a little early for a Christmas song, may have quite a strange chart run if it doesn't get to number 1.

I'm so glad there's another Band Aid version that's happening anyway, I was just starting Secondary school when the last version came out :o

I was just finishing secondary school when the *first* one came out :)

Folk saying 17 Nov is a bit early for a Xmas release, but surely the main point here is, the sooner it gets released, the sooner the extra help from it will help towards battling against the Ebola virus.

13,000 or more infected, I heard the other day.

It's a hemorrhagic fever. You can bleed from every orifice and other places.

It was panned but people were overdramatic about it.

I think it might have come off as self indulgent. Too many artists forcing their own style into it (Dizzie's rap, Darkness guitars, Coldplay piano, Joss Stone's adlibbing) and a lot of artists not really knowing what they were doing (Joss Stone's Gandalf remark, Busted not quite sure where the money was going, Rachel Stevens just turning up)

I personally like the beginning and the end. The middle was awful, needlessly slowed down and depressing. Also it was the most cringy part of the video where they all stood awkwardly at videos of starving people in Africa and showed faux-emotion as if they never knew things were that bad. Joss covering her eyes in slo-mo being the lowlight.

I question updating it at all. At the very least they should be trying out a new song. Last time they updated it with the current artists it was almost universally panned but at least the artists had something about them. This list looks horrifically bland.

The point is to drum up publicity-for charity or the artists involved. Call me cynical, but last time it felt like some artists were more interested in being seen then actually helping. Joss Stone not knowing who Bob 'Gandalf' is was a particular lowlight and seeing the list of names involved I can't see it coming across much better this time.

I assume the proceeds of the original still go to charity? So one could buy that. Or SHOCK HORROR donate of your own free will without having to get a crap cover version in return.

I don't mind the middle bit, although I totally get the bit about the video(!), but I find the ending really off-putting with that horrible guitar - who on EARTH was playing that?!

I remember Cheryl saying she was furious that Girls Aloud werent asked to do Band Aid last time round.

However...I remember reading that Rachel Stevens just turned up on the day....uninvited.

And expanding on what Rob S wrote, from ITV:

The world premiere play of the #BandAid30 track and official video will be aired on The X Factor Results Show, live on ITV from 8pm on Sunday 16 November.

The track and video of the world’s biggest musical stars taking part in the charity single studio recording, on Saturday 15 November, will be produced in record time so it can be played out in time for Sunday night’s show.

The world-renowned British artist, Tracey Emin designed and produced the official artwork for the single.

Official trailer, containing hard-hitting images of the Ebola crisis:

That is... not particularly great cover art. Is the parenthesised '2014' really necessary?

That does look rather ugly!

By the way:

The single will be available to download at 08:00 GMT the following day, priced at 99p. A CD version costing £4 will be released three weeks later.

Not sure if it was previously mentioned that the CD would be available 3 weeks later (December 8th).

why is it being released at 8:00 on Monday? Midnight would make more sense surely (only 8 hours earlier) or even released as soon as it premieres. It'll obviously go to #1 either way so it doesn't matter too much
Is it a good decision to premiere it on XF considering it's always been on bbc channels?!

Fuse ODG is on the track..?

YES at Paloma and Jessie :D

XF is such a joke. Wonder if this will sell well in between the first week and the couple of weeks before Xmas?
