PERFECT <3

That was AMAZING - I don't care what people say about Westlife, that is among my ~top 40/50 songs of all time, and that was nailed. Fantastic  All of a sudden, I want to rate the duets so I can give that a fat 10/10 that it deserves and nobody else will credit it for *.*

So 10/10 cos I can.

YES! I really, REALLY enjoyed this and I'm pretty sure this got him more votes over Luke, who has been "ok" tonight whilst Nicholas gave his best performance (but also a pretty dull one, luckily his best was the later one so was more fresh for people, which probably got him the "fanbase vote" for his terrible performance as well as "new fan" votes for his duet performance).

That was sensational, Nicole really doesn't get enough credit as a solo artist. With a voice like that she should be as big as Beyonce.
"PREACH".

 Brings me back to singing them in July, seeing them do Mr Brightside live almost brought tears to my eyes, it was such an incredible moment.
By FAR the greatest act I've ever witnessed live, helped by the fact I was front row and had physical contact and direct eye-contact from God himself! *.*

...

04.0 Nicholas | 'Candy'

Performance wise, it was very "fun" but a little overly camp. Vocally very, VERY dull and flat throughout. I actually quite like the song, but I wasn't impressed with this performance at all.

---

09.0 Sam | 'The Edge of Glory'

Brilliant performance! She has more stage presence than she should, imo. The production was a little (tiny) bit off putting, like it was the demo version of it or something, but she OWNED majority of it! Finally an upbeat number that wasn't 20+ years old!

---

05.0 Luke | 'We Are Young'

Should have been better than it was! He was FAR too shouty on this track, but when it was reigned in a little bit, he was ok. It really cost him the final 2 position though, imo.

---

08.0 Luke | 'Anything Could Happen' (feat. Ellie Goulding)

This is a much better performance from him, but it wasn't good enough unfortunately. This is the final. We should have been seeing some "his best performances yet" type of performances. Ellie was on fire though and I'm just a casual fan. Much better than she was for her 'Burn' performance.

09.5 Nicholas | 'Flying Without Wings' (feat. Shane Filan)

WOW. A lot better than I thought he would be. He was vocally, brilliant. In tune and nowhere near as flat or as dull as he has been recently! Like Robot, the song is a firm favourite of mine and I think it really suited Nicholas. Westlife couldn't last in this "digital era" though, so I'm not sure Nicholas is going to be capable of getting a successful career if he goes down this route (despite it suiting him). Very good and what he needed to get him that place in the top 2!

10.0 Nicole Scherzinger | 'And I'm Telling You, I'm Not Going' (feat. Nicole Scherzinger and Sam Bailey)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY. A duet that CHALLENGES BEYONDRA! <3<3<3<3<3 I HATE this song with a passion (far too shouty and OTT) but I was completely BLOWN away by this performance of it. There really are no words and this has SEALED the win (along with the 'The Power of Love' performance tomorrow!!) for her! LMAO at Nicole upstaging her and then having moments where she seems to remember it's about Sam and not her! This performance was just as iconic as her performance with Jahmene, where she stole the mic off of him! *.*

Yeah SAM 2 WIN etc...

EDIT: Also The Killers... greatest guest performance ever. BAR NONE. Leona Lewis and 'Run' WHO?! *.* [/loon]

I don't understand the love for the Sam/Nicole duet, it was really shouty IMO and was too big a song for Nicole who seemed to make it all about herself...

It wasn't even a Westlife original - Flying Without Wings was originally recorded by Ruben Studdard - winner of series 2 of American Idol

Not quite :P He won Idol in 2003 and released it as his winner's single, but Westlife had it on their debut album in 1999!

Ratings for this last night were the lowest since the first final in 2004.

I give it another two years before it stops.

Not surprised in the slightest. They need to step it up with the song choices next year, make it appeal more to the younger generation rather than just catering to old women. Who outside of the ages of 40+ is realistically going to buy an album by Sam Bailey or Nicholas McDonald?

Is there any rumours of what Luke could have sang in the final as the single choice, I bet my money on a cover of the Goo Goo Dolls hit "Iris"

Their was a rumour it was 'When You're Gone' by Avril Lavigne but nothing substantial. :)

I will be gutted if Sam doesnt win tonight, i have this feeling the Scottish vote will be enough to sway it for Nicolas who to m will have a Leon Jackson style career.
The problem with the show is that it has regressed the last 2 years. It did so well in 2009-11 because it was a contemporary show with contemporary artists and song choices. It's back to the housewife bracket now with acts like Sam/Nicholas and dull themes (Big Band) and rubbish song choices (basically them all).
I'll do my bit for Sam by dropping money into her hat if I see her out busking this time next year.
