December 17, 201312 yr An exciting week for albums then! I had expected 1D to have a significant lead at this stage of the week, following their X-F performance. Robbie would have this in the bag, but appearently he has no big promo lined up for this week so it should still be very close.
December 17, 201312 yr I don't think Beyoncé's physicals sales will help so much, Do people know the album is in stores friday?
December 17, 201312 yr I don't think Beyoncé's physicals sales will help so much, Do people know the album is in stores friday? The album was released on downloads on a Friday yet still managed 68k.
December 17, 201312 yr For Steve Brookstein in 2004, his first day sale was 38k, well behind Band Aid 20 who sold 75k on the Sunday and Monday. The following day (sales to Tuesday night) Steve was up to 60k and sold 127k during the whole of the week. Band Aid 20 sold 231k to take the Christmas number 1. Wasn't Steve Brookstein's single released the week after the Christmas Number One though?
December 17, 201312 yr Wasn't Steve Brookstein's single released the week after the Christmas Number One though? Yes but the Christmas #1 in 2004 was revealed on 19 Dec, so Steve's debut week would've included most of the Christmas shopping rush
December 17, 201312 yr Wasn't Steve Brookstein's single released the week after the Christmas Number One though? It was, but that was because Christmas Day fell on a Saturday in 2004 so I have a feeling it was either too late to release the single in time for the Christmas number 1 (it would have had to be released during the week commencing Monday 13 December) or Simon Cowell deliberately delayed the release by a week to lessen the competition from Band Aid 20 and so either way it was released in Christmas week and entered the chart on Sunday 26 December (chart week ending Saturday 1 January 2005). If it was released a week late to lessen the competition from Band Aid 20 it didn't work as not only did 'Against All Odds' not sell as much as expected but Band Aid 20 recorded a small increase in sales.
December 17, 201312 yr When will the songs from Beyoncé's new album be able to chart? 20th December onwards.
December 17, 201312 yr Presumably being Christmas Number One wasn't any kind of possibility for Brookstein given the existence of Band Aid 20 so I doubt they even considered aiming for that week. In any case only physical sales counted then, so there was no point trying to release it instantly.
December 18, 201312 yr I am getting so sick of the lazy covers. Sound of The Underground was the only worthy Christmas Number 1 winner's song. At the same time, I really don't want classic rock from 20 years to get it either. I just want it to be a genuine battle of the best and most popular song. Not one that people buy with not much interest in actually listening to it. Don't worry it will eventually evolve and XF will Fawlkes by the wayside already you can see the beginnings of the end for it!
December 18, 201312 yr Christmas week, and week after christmas it's a two different stories in christmas week there will be around 2 times better sale than week after. Last year: Although I was disappointed at the no1s sales not being over 200k last Xmas I was impressed that the top 9 basically all passed or came close to 100k doubt it'll be similar this yr 33k for 1D after a XF final performance what will that equate to by Sunday - 120k??
December 18, 201312 yr By the way to correct myself looks like Robbie has some promo ( B-) ) on friday after all. (Text Santa ) Edited December 18, 201312 yr by 7heDreamer
December 18, 201312 yr What is the show actually about though is it just like children in need with Xmas based stuff?!
December 18, 201312 yr What is the show actually about though is it just like children in need with Xmas based stuff?! Sort of yeah. It gets 4-5 million viewers, so could have a decent effect. Especially as this'll be the last weekend until Christmas.
December 18, 201312 yr Sort of yeah. It gets 4-5 million viewers, so could have a decent effect. Especially as this'll be the last weekend until Christmas. Not sure about impact of Text Santa, but Robbie is covering Dermots R2 show on Saturday from 3pm and then he's on Strictly that evening, but both are too late to count for xmas present buying of physical cd's that day and the charts this week.
December 18, 201312 yr Although I was disappointed at the no1s sales not being over 200k last Xmas I was impressed that the top 9 basically all passed or came close to 100k doubt it'll be similar this yr 33k for 1D after a XF final performance what will that equate to by Sunday - 120k?? Last week after 2 days of sale robbie and 1D sold 28 k each, this week 33k, last week they sold over 120k so this week they should sell more than 120k. And X Factor could affected so far only 1 day of sale, so it's too soon to say that X Factor didn't help. And this year Christmas will be in the middle of next week, so a lot of pre Christmas shopping will be doing next week, so it's rather obvious that this week sales will be lower than last year.
