How on earth did one branch of HMV sell 1k of Sam's physicals in a DAY? I can't imagine that her physicals so far amount to much more than 15k so taking into account the 142 branches and the fact that supermarkets will be stocking it too, the other stores are selling it at a rate of about 75-90 copies per day. Was the store reported to have sold 1k of it perhaps in her home town?

I was in my Tesco Extra today - no sign of her single there and I did go out of my way to look for it.

Robbie and Nicole sold 110,000 to make Christmas number 1 back in 2001, the worst sale for a Christmas number 1 in the whole of the 00s... so far!

But one of the best ones of the 00s : ))

None in ours either, said they've not received any and could have sold loads as many people have asked for it. Some distribution problem then?

It sounds like it.

The same distributor came under fire last week for having problems getting albums into record stores as some stores had been waiting for over a week for stock to arrive. The distributor said on Monday that all stock had now been delivered but could this have had a knock on effect, preventing stock of Sam's single from being distributed to all stores so far this week?

Got my copy today in our local hmv in Ireland and it was selling well in the couple of minutes i was there.
I found a few singles on a stand upstairs in the Regent Street Street HMV (if that's still open) last year. But I've never been as lucky on Oxford Street - but that store is somewhat of a jungle.

They sometimes put the single beside the artist album in my Hmv!

It sounds like it.

That's all record stores need. Saw in last wks MW the distribution problems for on line retailers too!

We're in the 10s now though!

I find the figure of 700-900 in one HMV in one day pretty hard to believe -- maybe nation-wide?

OMG actually that makes more sense bwahaha. There's so much information about stock on the computer it tells you how many have been sold every day and then there's tons of columns and grids with figures. I'm still learning how to work it. But the figures I posted WERE on the screen so it could have meant nation wide.

Will Sam Bailey and One Direction top the Christmas charts?

20/12/2013

In the final sales flash before the Official 2013 Christmas Number 1 single and Number 1 album are announced, we reveal who are currently leading the races.

This Sunday (December 22) Jameela Jamil and Scott Mills will reveal who’s scored the Official 2013 Christmas Number 1 single and album live on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart Show. As ever, it’s been a closely fought race, as the nation waits with baited breath to find out who’ll be going down in the history books as this year’s festive chart toppers.

According to this morning’s Official Charts Company sales data, X Factor star Sam Bailey could set to celebration another victory this Sunday a mere week after winning the latest series of ITV’s reality TV singing contest. The 36-year-old mum of two is currently in pole position on today’s Official Singles Chart with her cover of Demi Lovato’s Skyscraper. Up to midnight last night (Thursday, December 20) Sam’s debut single has sold more than 107,000 copies so far this week, a cool 68,000 ahead of her closest rival, Pharrell Williams’ Happy (Number 2).

Leona Lewis holds firm at Number 3 with her festive single, One More Sleep, while Avicii’s Hey Brother and Lily Allen’s cover of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know complete the Top 5.

Over on the Official Albums Chart, things aren’t as clear cut: Reigning chart champ Robbie Williams’ Swings Both Ways is currently neck-and-neck with One Direction’s Midnight Memories. The 1D boys are narrowly ahead of Robbie this morning by just 2,700 copies.

The rest of the Top 5 remains static with Gary Barlow’s Since I Saw You Last (3), Olly Murs' Right Place, Right Time (4) and Beyoncé’s new self-titled album (5).
