Biography

Best known for her Tony-nominated performance in the Broadway smash Rent, singer/actress Idina Menzel made her solo debut in 1998 with the pop-soul effort Still I Can't Be Still. She joined the cast for Wicked in 2003 and appeared on the recording that same year, while 2004 saw her releasing the album Here. The following year, Menzel appeared on the soundtrack to the television show Desperate Housewives, and a duet with Ray Charles (which the pair had recorded back in 1998) found its way onto the tribute album Genius & Friends. In 2007, a dance version of Wicked's "Defying Gravity" became Menzel's first club hit. A year later she landed on the major label Warner Bros. and released a new album, I Stand. - iTunes

Chart history (Year peak title):

2008 60 Defying Gravity (Kristin Chenoweth & Idina Menzel) -OST-

2010 36 I Dreamed A Dream (Glee Cast Feat. Idina Menzel)

2010 27 Poker Face (Glee Cast Feat. Idina Menzel)

2013 11 Let It Go -OST-

2014 38 For The First Time In Forever (Kristen Bell & Idina Menzel) -OST-

Let It Go has one of the most odd chart runs in a while, and should even climb again next week! I can't say I get the fuss though, it's far too dramatic in a cheesy way and the vocals are far too screechy.

Oh FFS not this ridiculous screech-fest again?! :nocheer: :manson:
Indiana reminds me of Robyn. I get the vibes of 'Dancing On My Own' whilst listening to this. :)

Is that based just on the titles? Cos I wouldn't say the songs are anything alike at all

Hopefully next week, this can finally go top 10, definitely looking like being one of the year's biggest hits either way though! (Wouldn't mind the other Frozen songs going away though)

That's no surprise! Solo Dancing...Dancing On My Own...almost the same title! :D

Biography

Born to Panamanian parents in Los Angeles in 1979, E. Nathaniel Dawkins (aka Aloe Blacc) first began playing trumpet in elementary school, and continued with the instrument throughout high school. There he also independently released Imaginary Friends, produced by DJ Exile, with whom he would go on to form the hip-hop group Emanon. While at college at USC, though his artistic endeavors were placed behind his scholastic goals, Aloe still managed to learn how to play the guitar and the piano, and after graduating and spending some time in the corporate world, he decided to return to his first love, music. In 2005 Emanon's full-length debut, The Waiting Room, came out on Shaman Works, and the next year his first solo album, Shine Through, a combination of retro-soul and Latin music, was released on Stones Throw. He partnered with the Truth & Soul Productions crew for 2010's more organic effort Good Things. The album featured the single "I Need a Dollar," which reached the Top Ten in several countries, including the U.K. and Germany. The song was licensed for use as the theme song to the HBO show How to Make It in America. In 2013, Aloe co-wrote and fronted Avicii's "Wake Me Up," an international smash hit that reached the Top Five of Billboard's Hot 100. His third album, Lift Your Spirit, was released in some territories later that year. In the U.S., it was issued through Interscope in early 2014. - iTunes

Discussion Thread Here

The Man :o

Aloe was #10 in the Friday mids :o

If The Man is at #12 then this means Happy must be #10

NOOoOOOoOOOOOOOooooOOOOoOoooOOoOOOo

Oh, Pharrell IS ahead of Aloe Blacc - he could be top 10 after all then :o Unless Iggy Azalea overtook him.

Aloe not having a particularly great chart run for a #1.

I got bored of this a day after it charted  I don't know whether I like Aloe as a person or not :/
The Man is actually growing on me a bit - the production is very grand and his voice is very soulful. For some reason though, the repetition of 'the man' and 'yes I am' really grates on me.
I hope Pharrell is inside the top 10 for chart geekiness, 20wks :D
