I hope the chart show doesn't move to Fridays at 4PM, I don't get home until 4:30. Maybe instead of Friday Night Dance Anthems they could do the chart show from 6. It doesn't need to be 3 hours especially with all the old songs hanging around, it can be reduced to 2 hours with the entire top 20 played plus entries and recent releases from 20 - 40

i.e. last week's chart the following songs would get played on the show alongside the top 20

#23 Fergie - L.A.LOVE (la la)

#24 Ne-Yo - Coming With You

#32 Imagine Dragons - I Bet My Life

#33 Mike Mago & Dragonette - Outlines

#36 Taylor Swift - Style

#37 Florence + The Machine - What Kind Of Man

Would rather they left it in it's normal sunday slot. From what I have gathered this will more affect albums than the single chart anyway. Makes the chart more interesting if someone can swoop in at the end of the week and still nab the top spot.

I am more concerned for shops like HMV to be honest than the chart show. The shops will be far quieter monday to wednesday and then rammed over the weekend.

Shortening the chart would be ridiculous IMO, the whole point is that it's a top 40 countdown - picking and choosing what to play would be a bit silly considering the public are choosing Sam Smith still over Florence, for example, so on the whole, they'd rather hear Sam for the billionth week, no?

I'd be happy with a move to Fridays at 4-7! That's the ideal scenario for me. Unless they do a Billboard and don't announce the new chart for a couple of days? So the tracking week is Friday to Thursday, and then the chart still gets announced on Sunday.

I'll refrain from judging until it actually happens as I'll be fine with it (or at least be able to deal with it), similar to how I was with streaming being added.

If the chart was to remain on a Sunday, it would be cool to see songs debut lowish before shooting up the chart the next week.

If the chart remains Sunday-Saturday, this could be a great way to stop songs from losing too many places in peak position due to streaming! Most songs are released on streaming and on sale at the same time, but while sales start high streaming always takes time to gain momentum. Now, some songs will enter the top 100 for their first two days, subsequently gaining attention and some momentum on streaming for its first full week, where it will almost certainly climb since a song is very likely to sale and stream more over 7 days than other 2, and the song will have been streamed more (considering it is available on streaming) during its 3rd to 9th day of release than it would have been on its 1st to 7th day.
I actually like the sound of this! Especially the whole "Global Release Day" being a Friday (usually a payday for people I think!). I find it quite exciting that the chart week will be changing. I don't see anything wrong with a 4-7 slot on Fridays either tbh. People will be in traffic jams/rush hour and stuff so could grab casual listeners that way? Very exciting times though!
Would the day have to move? It would surely be more interesting to see the chart on a Sunday this way.
I wouldn't mind waiting for Sunday for the chart to be announced but I hope the chart isn't announced before the show, or the show will be a lot less interesting.

Pointless setting a global release day for singles (allegedly to stop music piracy) if they're going to continue to hold them back for months on end here~

I hope this spells the end for the single pre-order culture, with OA/OS embraced as the future! However I wouldn't be surprised if the chart week was moved to Fri-Thur only for the UK to continue to lag months behind the rest of the world for the latest releases...

I believe that Radio 1 gets more listeners on a Friday at 4pm to 7pm than for the Top 40 on a Sunday. So moving the chart countdown to a Friday might even help revive some interest in the new chart. It should certainly help boost listening figures.

What will be interesting is how streaming will impact on a chart which includes all weekend streaming data in one chart week. Currently the weekend streaming effect is diluted because Saturday streams affect one chart while Sunday streams affect the subsequent chart. As those are the two biggest days for people streaming music, including streaming data for both days in one chart week should help boost the effect streaming has on records in the chart.

I would be amazed if they did a 3 hour chart show on a Friday afternoon. It's not going to happen.

If the shift was to happen to Fridays, currently they have Greg James 4 to 6, Dance Anthems 6 to 7, and Annie Mac from 7 to 9.

Well its not going to happen between 4 to 6, Dance Anthems will probably get shifted to a later slot, and Annie Mac would probably get a weekend slot. So the time that will be allocated for the chart is somewhere between 6 to 8/9 depends if the chart show gets a 3 or a 2 hour slot. In a way its not that bad. 6 to 9 is doable.

Annie Mac will be replacing Zane Lowe next month on Monday-Thursday I think.

The global release date is only for albums as far as I'm aware.

I can't see them changing it for albums but not singles. Hopefully this means the UK won't get releases held off for 200months or whatever.

That's right and she'll still be doing her Friday night show too.

oooh... Christmas Day falls on a Friday this year... mind you I'm sure we had a similar situation on a Sunday, most likely it be a condensed show, if the show gets moved.
There's no way radio 1 will have the chart on a Friday afternoon 4-7 drive time slot this is a huge audience time with Greg James' show very popular. They will just have the chart week ending on Thursday with the chart not announced until the Sunday afternoon. Audience is massive to radio stations and the drive time shows in mornings and evenings having the highest earning djs etc so they won't stick the chart in the middle of it all!

From the BBC website

BBC Radio 1's Official Chart show could move from its current Sunday night slot following an international agreement to release albums and singles on Fridays.
