We'll see, it may be fresh in the minds of many local voters. Can imagine much of the campaigns from the Labour and LDs will now focus on that if they're on the attack at all.

Not expecting too much but this could be the start of the fragmentation of the Tory 40% - it has to eventually splinter and there has to be a portion in that who would be appalled at corruption.

I think it'll start to splinter later this year/early next, as government help from the pandemic starts to be taken away (stamp duty holiday/furlough/help for businesses ending). Partiularly if we do see another lockdown next winter. There's the budget for 2022 as well whch will likely include potentially unpopular policies to deal with the debt increase (tax rises most likely).

Council tax bills have already risen an average of 4.3% this month for the 2021/2022 financial year. That could sway people away from the Tories in the upcoming elections potentially.

What's needed is for there to be a party or two to funnel support away from the tories (Lib dems/Farage's party possibly) as well as labour restructuring themselves to potentially win back former voters.

Another item of sleaze to add to the list:

Dominic Cummings allegations: Boris Johnson urged to explain funding of flat refurbishment

Boris Johnson is being urged to explain how the refurbishment of his Downing Street flat was paid for, following allegations from his ex-chief advisor.

Dominic Cummings claimed the PM had once had "possibly illegal" plans to get Tory donors to fund the work.

The government said "costs of wider refurbishment in this year have been met by the prime minister personally".

But Labour said Mr Johnson needed to fully disclose where the money came from and whether it was a loan.

Party leader Sir Keir Starmer said: "It matters. It is about integrity, it is about taxpayers' money. Every day there is more evidence of this sleaze. Frankly, it stinks.

As much as I believe there is some truth to the story, it's really hard to take seriously when it comes from one of his cheerleaders. That said, clear as mud Gove is going after him now as he smells blood.

Well, this is going to be an even bigger story this week...

DISGUSTING, DISGUSTING, LANDED GÉNTRY BORN TO RULE PIECE OF SHIT!!!!! I HATE IT!!!! The populists will try and whitewash its history, like they did with Churchill and famine, and his "fill their bellies with lead" comments r.e striking miners, but it has shown what we ALL (except its Tory sycopnats) knew all along: it is VILE.

If it is true. His position is untenable

We live in an authoritarian one-party Tory state, with a pliant, controlled media. He isn;t going anywhere, no matter what he does or says. Common Sense will support him no matter what too.

One of the largest populist papers is calling for his head! As much as I don't like Boris, you have to ask yourself, is the alternative of Gove or Patel any better?

Surely it is better for this to play out in the press longer term.

Regardless, I will be very pleased to see his downfall. He's an asset to the Tory Party electorally and the press turning against him (by this comment being printed in the Mail) is long overdue and could well lead to some good outcomes down the road.

I mean, it's the kind of crass thing that Johnson would say (presumably why Cummings briefed it)- after all he has form on this: Boris Johnson Libya 'dead bodies' comment provokes anger Incidentally that Mail front page is tragically awful to look at as always ('can you tell which sister has had 2 facelifts'? :/)

Hard to know who to root for between the serial adulterer, liar, opportunist buffoon or the muppet who took us all for mugs this time last year and seems to be the living embodiment of the Dunning-Kruger effect. I hope they both destroy each other frankly.

The BBC doing some subtle reframing for their paymasters there, that 'could' addition to the comment doesn't sound like what we've heard from the other sources.

That's true, thanks for catching that. Almost as if they're trying to soften the blow.

Thry were also asking, "do we care?" r.e Tory CORRUPTION, and framing the entire story around if people cared or not!! Omfg! If that isn't brainwashing propaganda, I don't know what is. It needs the axe. It is little more than state propaganda.

Classic Kuenssberg

On TV they're running with another variation and saying 'can' instead of 'could'...

It doesn’t matter how they dress it up, this is awful. He stood there looking sad and said he’d done ‘everything he could’.

Peston confirming the comment is true and the source isn't Cummings. This is going to get juicy. You feel people have been sitting on this stuff for ages but waiting for us to be a bit out of the woods with Covid knowing that the Government could bury the news pretty easily.

You're right, this is not going anywhere...
