October 14, 20195 yr Caroline Polachek and Charli XCX over two days at the end of the month might end me~
October 15, 20195 yr I’m at Little Mix a week on Thursday. Also seeing Xtina alone in Manchester in November? Anyone on here going I’m having my first experience of one alone not in my home city but I’m low key terrified.
October 16, 20195 yr I’m at Little Mix a week on Thursday. Also seeing Xtina alone in Manchester in November? Anyone on here going I’m having my first experience of one alone not in my home city but I’m low key terrified. I've been to gigs alone quite a few times. Don't worry about it, you will porbbaly end up chatting to other people while you are there. I usually do. If you look out at gigs, it is often possible to spot other people who have gone alone also. Also once the artist is on stage, you don't really think about it as much and just enjoy the moment. Enjoy the gig, have an amazing time!
October 16, 20195 yr I understand how you feel Jordan Lee, but like Tombo says, the idea of going alone probably seems worse than what it'll end up being like! Hope you enjoy it! Having said that(!), I never have the nerve to go to concerts alone... I wish I did, because there have been times I've missed out on concerts due to fear of feeling self conscious (I've missed out on seeing artists that I know none of my friends particularly like, or perhaps they couldn't afford to go, or the date of the concert wasn't ideal). I've only ever been to one concert on my own (Spice Girls in 2007, which wasn't on purpose, it just worked out that way) and I was sat in between two different couples! I felt a bit awkward and the time seemed to go so slowly, but obviously once the Spice Girls were on stage I no longer cared and focused on the show! Nevertheless, I'm sure it's that moment which has put me off going to anything alone since then. ~ I have two concerts forthcoming! 8th November 2019 - Little Mix 18th September 2020 - Celine Dion
October 16, 20195 yr I saw Swim Deep just over a week ago on the first date of their tour. They seemed to be well aware of the fact that it could be their last tour. As the album has flopped, I suspect that may be the case :( I was also due to see Man And The Echo last week but the gig has been postponed until February. I now know why. They are supporting Divine Comedy on their tour. As I am going to the Brighton date on Wednesday, I get to see them after all. I have described Man And The Echo as like a cross between Divine Comedy and Franz Ferdinand, so this support slot makes sense. I am also seeing Richard Hawley on Friday, so it's a busy week. Man and the Echo were excellent. Divine Comedy due on in 15 minutes.
October 16, 20195 yr Man and the Echo were excellent. Divine Comedy due on in 15 minutes. enjoy! I recently saw Toyah in Sturminster Newton. Not randomly - I was literally standing in front of her in a fab small venue, dancing like she was still 25...
October 16, 20195 yr enjoy! I recently saw Toyah in Sturminster Newton. Not randomly - I was literally standing in front of her in a fab small venue, dancing like she was still 25... Now there’s an interesting tour - London, Liverpool and Sturminster Newton!
October 16, 20195 yr And Divine Comedy were great too. They've been going thirty years, but this is the first time I've seen them. If you get a chance and you like whimsical pop, go and see them.

December 13, 20195 yr Bit of a late reply but I did really enjoy my Xtina gig so thanks for those comments. It really was a great experience :) I did chat to people too who weirdly knew me by name through mutual friends small world! As for my gigs in the future (or 2020 for now!). I have Dua Lipa booked for Newcastle. Booked that first bc I felt she’d sell out before Camila Cabello who I also wanna see. Holding off on that till around my birthday though as I feel I could get tickets nearer the time. (If anyone wants to buy me one I’m born Valentine’s Day 😂😂). Really really really want to try and get Celine Dion tickets though but feel like that may be a task! Edited December 13, 20195 yr by Jordan Lee
December 18, 20195 yr Why are concert prices so ridiculous now? £100 to see acts is just plain crap. I tried to purchase killer tickets last month and the only ones left were £140
December 19, 20195 yr Author 2019's gigs are over for me so here's an update of my list! I lied, I managed to get a ticket to Harry Styles' secret London show tonight!!!! *.*
December 19, 20195 yr Why are concert prices so ridiculous now? £100 to see acts is just plain crap. I tried to purchase killer tickets last month and the only ones left were £140 Ditto. By the time I heard about it the standing ones had gone in Southampton and the seats are just ridiculous prices to stare at a blob in the distance or watch a screen. Rip-off secondary ticketing sites are somewhere I won't go either. I went to see Pet Shop boys in Spain and it was totally controlled ticketing, no ripoffs - you turn up on the day at the venue to get your tickets using your credit card and ID for proof. result: low prices, fans not ripped-off. I won't go and see acts that charge too much, or habitually let others rip fans off, including mass sales to companies doing expensive coach and accommodation/meals "deals". Got my tickets for repeat business, always-reasonably-priced Pet Shop Boys and Kim Wilde/China Crisis for 2020, both Greatest Hits tours. If ageing pop stars can do small venues to make a living and sell-well, I don't see why Big Names need to charge so much - if anything economies of scale should apply and it should be even cheaper!
December 19, 20195 yr Why are concert prices so ridiculous now? £100 to see acts is just plain crap. I tried to purchase killer tickets last month and the only ones left were £140 Because putting on shows and tours are ridiculously expensive. Let's say, for example, The Killers charge £100 for a ticket. It will be divided up approximately like this.- £10 agents booking fee. Yes they charge the act and the purchaser usually. £90 left Up to 35% of that can go to the government in taxes depending on what country it is. Let's be generous and say they take only 17% which is about £15 £75 left. What's left is taken by the band and the promoter. The promoter fees are often quoted at 15% That's another £11 gone. Possibly more if the promoter has to work hard to sell the venue out. £64 left The manager will take his cut which is usually 15-20%. Take it as 15% and that's another £10 gone £54 left. The remainder is for the band. Except the band will be paying for a small economy all of its own. Roadies, lighting crew, sound engineers. catering, tour management, venue fees, etc. Then there's transport costs for equipment, hotels and the cost of rehearsal space. (When a major record label is pushing an upcoming band they might front up the cash but will expect the band to pay them back. Stories of bands splitting owing labels thousands or more are so common its mind blowing). A huge act like U2 or Coldplay will incur costs of around $750,000 a day when touring regardless of whether they played that night. Once all of these costs are taken away what's left might actually make it to the band but you'd be amazed to how little that can be. Divide that between the 4 members of the band and its fairly modest. Where bands actually make money on the road is through merchandising sales. Most of that goes to the artist. Whilst it is indeed true that ticket prices have risen dramatically in the last 20 years much of that is because physical sales have dropped significantly and bands make little from those anyway. Spotify and streaming figures are even worse -and artist needs just over quarter of a million streams to earn about £1200 which comes in well below the minimum wage. The simple fact of the matter is it is incredibly difficult to make money from making and releasing music - especially if radio isn't playlisting you anymore - and if you're not making money from touring than it may not be viable financially. I just realised I hadn't even factored in the cost for supports acts too. Edited December 19, 20195 yr by Severin
