Surprised to see Anastacia still top 20 but then again a new hits collection is probably more likely to puck up casual buyers than an album of new material. Hope she can hold.

well this completely untrue. sure, streaming helps him out a lot however that does not go to say that without it, his sales would render him unsuccessful in any sense of the word. sorry is currently at number two on itunes and has been so now for nearly a month, what do you mean? upon realease shot straight to number one on itunes and remained there for weeks; on top of this, the majority of his units are made up of sales not streams.

 

anyway, even if streaming were to account for the majority of his chart success, the chart is a rundown of the uk's most popular songs of the week, it says a lot about bieber's popularity if his streaming success is being matched by few; streaming should not be discredited.

After assessing the sales info, it looks pretty much Justin will have the #1 spot by the end of the week, once all the data is collected, at least Justin get a week with Sorry. I've never expected Justin to have 2 #1s back to back in just over a few weeks.

 

Adele will re-take it next week, with the album out and the Adele at the BBC TV special on Friday after Eastenders.

Justin Bieber could possibly have 3 #1s very close to each other actually, as the next single is already doing really well from cherry-picks/being top 3 on streams

Sorry guys! Apologies if the comment caused offense -- obviously it did not mean to, was not personal and was just a silly comparison.

 

It's worth noting that a huge 70% of Bieber's album sales are digital: his album is the biggest selling album on that format, but only the fourth on physicals, behind 1D, ELO (who are only 2k behind 1D! :o ) and Elvis. Unexpected that his digital sales are much higher than his physicals (though I am surprised the ratio is so large) but very interesting!

in usa also not many people are buying bieb's album in stores... so he is selling the physical copies for $4 to beat 1d.. his album is kinda boring too.

Ben will end up with the lowest peak for a winner's debut album too so it's not the fault of the low sales climate either. Seems he's just not catching the public's imagination.

 

To be fair, no other winner had to release their album in a very busy week. The only hope is that One Direction & Justin Bieber's sales push up the overall sales so Ben could end up at, say, #7 but with a respectable total of 40-50k.

 

Even in the worst case scenario that Ben is dropped at some point next year I imagine that there would be at least someone willing to snap him up. He has far more charisma and likeability than Leon and Steve. Joe obviously went on Popstar to Operastar and is doing well for himself, will be interesting to see whether two years of touring will help his sales figures.

I know that digital services such as Amazon MP3 and other online organisations sometimes sell records for a low price -- usually $3.99, or this may have changed since I last checked -- but there's an obligation that if an album is selling at too low of a price the sales coming from said organisation will not be counted towards the sale. I don't think it's a surprise at all that Purpose is selling more than Made in the A.M. in America.

It will come down to which act is more front loaded. Given Justin seems to have been Mr consistent with both his singles, I'd say he'll bridge the gap come friday and take it.
