it would be so refreshing to finally have a Christmas #1 that's not: a x factor winner's single, a charity record, or a social media campaign~ ^_^

Agree - Would love to see a Christmas themed song at the top though!

AND paid subscriptions as I mentioned before.

Apple Music is for example not free, only the first 3 months and only for new subscribers.

Ah right, ok.

Adam Lambert and Will Young both got to low #60's from nowhere, she got to #55 in the finale... its no biggy :P

...anyways on topic please everyone :arrr:

Just about staying on topic, Ellie has tweeted that she has been sick all week and has been struggling with her voice - well done to her for performance in difficult circumstances.

As this is the Prediction thread I predict performance will boost Album position and keep LMLYD as number 4 in YTD sales.

Not exactly it says it is combined:

"The NHS Choir continues to lead way in the race for this year's Christmas Number 1, Official Charts can confirm.

The race is far from over yet though, as their lead on yesterday's update over Justin Bieber's Love Yourself (which was based on sales only) has reduced to just over 2,000 combined sales and streams."

But I'm pretty sure there are some streaming data still missing (as always in the early days)

I don't think they'd be willing to admit streaming data is usually outstanding from the weekend updates though! :P

But hasn't the NHS got a remix in the ITunes top 20 and also you can buy the 2 song package too? so still has a chance and 4 days left as Xmas takes over.

Yes, but Justin Bieber has around 50,000 streaming sales - which is more than the #1 will sell in downloads this week anyway. Thus, the race is already over.

Could Justin hold the top 2 for a fifth consecutive week?

Depends on the sales of the NHS choir really, but at the moment I can't say, seeing as that in the combined chart yesterday the NHS choir were .30% ahead of Sorry at number two, but Justin's streams are ridiculous so we'll see in the midweek chart update today.

I've been torn over who I would like to get the Christmas #1, personally I've seen how the NHS work both in a professional and personal way and I don't really like Justin Bieber, but on the other hand, If Justin was to get it, I think it would be more beneficial in the long run for future Christmas #1s. Record companies will look at this and see that if Justin can catch the #1 with a single had no expectations of being a Christmas #1, then they'll pay more attention to it next year.

The race for the Christmas #1 with proper competition will be on next year!

Urgh, its not even a wintery ballad like 2 Become 1. Indicative of Cowell's murder of the Christmas Number 1, no one tries anymore.
Christmas #1 has lost its meaning anyway so I doubt record companies will care anymore than a regular #1 week from now on.

Cowell killed Christmas - but those that bought-in to the X-Factor are just as much to blame IMO.

You can't reverse what's happened, the damage is done now.

I don't think this will cause much excitement from record companies regarding bagging the Christmas #1 next year - I mean what's JB expected to actually sell this week aside from streams? 60,000? Tragic for a Christmas #1!
He's on track for around 40-45K sales - but that will be bumped up about 50K by 'streaming sales' to 90-100K. The download market ain't what it used to be.
I don't get why people would go mad and suddenly buy a download file or a physical single these days anyway, regardless the time of the year. 60k sounds about right.

The only person you can blame is those who are buying the singles. No one is forced or held at gunpoint to buy an X Factor winners single. All it is is the same brand/record label getting the Christmas #1 - different artists, different songs.

Cowell didn't 'kill Christmas'. Don't be so over-dramatic.
