As always with the new round we have a couple of misplaced AQs, although the one on the very bottom of the pile, Kelly Clarkson's Heartbeat Song is not one I was expecting but that looks dead set to come last overall after this I'd imagine. For much of this first round record-breaking BJSC winner Easy Love was struggling to get off the bottom but manages with an almighty effort to scrape fourth last. Some interesting new qualifiers, particularly the underdog favourite from Grimes, I always love having at least one AQ in each year that wasn't much of a hit in any way and Flesh Without Blood, never reaching the top 100, fits the bill perfectly.

 

Again there's a tiebreak though, and this time it's particularly painful for me as the wonderful tropical house pioneer Kygo misses out on the semi-finals with Firestone with the same margin as the first tiebreak in this round. And it's to a song which I don't really rate and find particularly generic. Well, Buzzjack, it wouldn't be hosting ROTD without something going incredibly wrong for me.

We always have a couple of first round qualifiers making it up high but we've done unusually well this time as the entire top 4 from the first round are in here. Most surprising is Hotline Bling but Drake's profile probably helped it there. Fleur East's (admittedly rather good) take on producing Uptown Funk with female vocals was for most of adding up very in danger of beating the real thing but at the end finishes one point behind so I... guess all's fair in gender love and war.

 

Justin Bieber's enigmatically popular Sorry grabs itself a top 10 seven points ahead of Uptown Funk. I have to say that the most surprising semi-final mover here for me is Demi Lovato's Cool For The Summer, I had no idea it was so rated.

The winner of Round 1 and nearly all of 2015 was Adele's Hello. Adele. Beating seeded #1 Lean On, a hugely popular Little Mix song and Years & Years' big synthpop #1 is no mean feat though.

 

But nothing could come close to Run Away With Me. Getting huge points from so many posters it finishes close to 100 points clear of its nearest competition and goes into the final looking very strong - can it repeat that?
